Interesting IDs with less than 1,000 entries to add later:

Biographical catalogues in mix'n'match

edit

You can group them by type, biography being one type. 121 biographical catalogues at the time of writing. --Magnus Manske (talk) 14:15, 24 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

More to check

edit

@Andrew Gray: Some time ago I added this example query:

#Authority control properties usage for painters
# Make a list of the most used authority control properties for people for painters
SELECT ?propertyLabel ?propertyDescription ?count WHERE {
	{
		select ?propertyclaim (COUNT(*) AS ?count) where {
			?item wdt:P106 wd:Q1028181 .
			?item wdt:P31 wd:Q5 .
			?item ?propertyclaim [] .
		} group by ?propertyclaim
	}
	?property wikibase:propertyType wikibase:ExternalId .
	?property wdt:P31 wd:Q19595382 .
	?property wikibase:claim ?propertyclaim .
	SERVICE wikibase:label {            # ... include the labels
		bd:serviceParam wikibase:language "en" .
	}
} ORDER BY DESC (?count)
LIMIT 100
Try it!

You might want to check those. Same query for all humans times out. To just get a list of Wikidata property for authority control for people (Q19595382)

SELECT ?propertyLabel ?propertyDescription WHERE {
	?property wikibase:propertyType wikibase:ExternalId .
	?property wdt:P31 wd:Q19595382 .
	?property wikibase:claim ?propertyclaim .
	SERVICE wikibase:label {            # ... include the labels
		bd:serviceParam wikibase:language "en" .
	}
} ORDER BY ?propertyLabel
Try it!

Awesome, thanks! One of the example queries I've included was based on a form of this, I think - had saved a note of the syntax but forgot where I got it from. I'll start working through them to see what I've missed. Andrew Gray (talk) 23:45, 26 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Sectioning

edit

I'm not sure how best to subdivide this. At the moment it has:

  • Identifiers
  • Library authority records

This feels a bit awkward. An early draft was grouped by theme - politics, art, etc - which didn't seem to work well either. I'm considering switching to -

  • Biographical resources - ie, things with biographical content at the link (such as the various Dictionaries of National Biography)
  • Content index entries - things with minimal information but which link to collections of content (eg most of the art gallery entries)
  • Pure identifiers - authority records and similar which just serve as an identifier (ISNI, LCCN, RKDArtists...)

Is there a more natural division than these? Andrew Gray (talk) 23:52, 26 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

The above might interest you. It would allow to map items for couples to identifiers for individuals.

Wikidata contribution at "Biographical Data in a Digital World" conference on Nov 6-7 in Vienna

edit

The organizers of Biographical Data in a Digital World 2017 have contacted some Wikidata contributors about giving a talk or otherwise contribute on how Wikimedia / Wikipedia / Wikidata et al. can help with biographical research in the digital humanities. None of us can make it, so if any of you here are interested, I'd be happy to establish contact. Travel and accommodation will be covered by the organizers. --Daniel Mietchen (talk) 20:52, 11 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

I'd love to but I can't make it at that short notice, sadly! Would be great if someone could go - perhaps @Jneubert: would be a good person to ask? It would fit well with his recent work on economists. Andrew Gray (talk) 21:13, 11 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I'd just like to let you know that I've started a general page on identifiers in Wikidata which this WikiProject seems to be a sub-project of. Please see my message at WikiProject_Molecular_biology -- JakobVoss (talk) 13:44, 31 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

How to correct errors in VIAF

edit

Hi! Where can I report errors in VIAF? I've just noticed that the DNB in 12310254 should go in 220577966 and 249538137 should be merged into 12310254. Thank you! --Epìdosis 13:23, 29 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

How to remove a wrong Identifier value in a Q-item ?

edit

Hello,

Can somehow help me removing the "Morris-20907" value ("Claude Lemuel Morris (abt. 1911 - 1970)"), linked to "WikiTree person ID" identifier from Lemuel (Q6521531) (which is about a "Biblical king mentioned in Proverbs" thus not related to the same Century & even not the same Millenia).

Thanks,

Cinemaazi film & person ID's

edit

I have created property proposals for the Cinemaazi film ID & Cinemaazi people ID for Indian Cinematic works and people, including for regional language works.

Apologies for adding this here, but the "Ping" function is not working correctly.

Kindly requesting any comments or concerns about the property proposals. Wallacegromit1 (talk) 05:50, 4 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Alexander Keiller Museum Person ID number (AKM_PID)

edit

Hello everyone! I'm currently involved in a project to digitise some of the collections held by the National Trust at Avebury, England. I work for University of York, and it's a join AHRC (UK research council) funded project with the National Trust.

Avebury is an archaeological site (neolithic stone circle and henge), with major excavations in the early 20th century. We're currently creating a database of the people involved in the excavations, and each of them has an AKM_PID. Some of our people are 'famous' enough that they have other biographical IDs, for instance with the Archaeology Data Service, or VIAF.

My question is, would it be appropriate for me to propose AKM_PID as a new property? Are there things I should keep in mind? One possible problem (but perhaps it's not a problem?) is that the AKM_PID database is not online yet so can't be remotely cross-checked, but we do have physical and internal catalogues. I could also do a quick and dirty release of the PIDs via our website. Many thanks for pointers! Medievalfran (talk) 15:59, 30 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
