Teknisk krøll edit

Hei.

Mvh Ooo86 (talk) 11:26, 27 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for thanking me but it's not necessary :))) edit

Hi, In Russian Wikipedia, we use the information from Wikidata quite actively. But because not all of the WD items (to put it mildly :))) have Russian labels, we have a number of articles with Q-codes. These articles are grouped in a special category, and me and some of my colleagues move through this category and type Russian labels. So, this is a systematic work that I do for the sake of the interaction between WD and WP and not for kudos :))) --Michgrig (talk) 16:53, 21 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

@Michgrig: Very nice. I've noticed a lot of Russian labels on items I created, from several users, so I assumed that was the case. It is interesting to see such a wide-spread use of Wikidata in Wikipedia, do you have any links to pages with examples and/or policies regarding how it is used (it's OK if they're in Russian, I can make it work with Google Translate)? Jon Harald Søby (talk) 10:05, 22 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
We don't have any policies concerning this interaction, or I don't remember them. We have several infobox templates that take the information from Wikidata, for example, ru:Шаблон:Персона and others in category ru:Категория:Википедия:Шаблоны, использующие Викиданные. If an item that is taken from here does not have the Russian label, it is displayed as Qxxx in an article. The above category for such Q-ed articles is ru:Категория:Википедия:Статьи со ссылками на элементы Викиданных без русской подписи. Some of our colleagues are very unhappy (again, to put it mildly :))) about this 'vandalization' of articles and about Wikidata in gerenal. But several of us (who are often called 'Wikidata disciples') just try to overcome the situation. --Michgrig (talk) 11:17, 22 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
Ah, I was wondering how it came that items I create get Russian labels so quickly. Good work. --- Jura 07:21, 23 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

proposal in archive by mistake: election period in years for elections, and now better period in years for elections, awards, positions held, events (olympia) edit

Hi Jon Harald Søby, could you please check my proposal which IMHO has been archived by you by mistake. https://www.wikidata.org/w/index.php?title=Wikidata:Property_proposal/Archive/29&diff=next&oldid=201918431. I answered done only to a proposal. Further more we should create a more general proposal also for awards which are granted every n years e.g.Jerg-Ratgeb Prize (Q1687646) granted every 4 years, see this headline. Thank you--Oursana (talk) 13:37, 26 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

@Oursana: You're right, I was a bit too hasty there. Since the proposal is so old, do you think it would be a good idea to just start a new one (referencing the old one, of course), or should we bring the old one back? If you woudl rather have a more general property I think it could be better to just start a new one, but it's up to you. Jon Harald Søby (talk) 15:25, 6 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Lusajo_Brown_'Chicharito' edit

Hi, I can see you speak swahili per the list of admins. Could you please check the edits by Special:Contributions/Lusajo_Brown_'Chicharito': I'm not sure if this is vandalisms or very bad attempts at adding correct content but on the wrong pages... -Ash Crow (talk) 14:35, 6 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

@Ash Crow: Hiya, just looks like a kid who wants his own article. I've told the most active contributor to swwiki to look at it, so he can fix it, which should automatically fix the article that was moved and stuff. The rest seems to be dealt with. Jon Harald Søby (talk) 15:22, 6 June 2015 (UTC)Reply
Thank you! -Ash Crow (talk) 18:38, 6 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Property for PolSys edit

Hei Jon Harald!

mvh --Pmt (talk) 05:45, 4 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Rodrigo Elias Cardoso (talk) 17:33, 6 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

@Rodrigo Elias Cardoso: Sorry, I don't know Portuguese, but maybe User:555 can help you? He is a very active Portuguese speaker in Wikidata. Jon Harald Søby (talk) 21:47, 6 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
@Jon Harald Søby: He was worried with an entry. In the meantime manually merged both. I've made the resulting empty one as redirect.

I'm sorry Jon Harald Søby, I didn't know you don't speak Portuguese, anyway thanks. e agradeço ao @Lugusto: pela informação despendidas (and thank for @ Lugusto's information).Rodrigo Elias Cardoso (talk) 04:01, 10 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Lit norsk edit

I følge bokmålsordboka betyr «jet» bare «jetmotor».
-- Innocent bystander (talk) 17:24, 12 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Bot-fejl edit

Hej!

Her går det galt. --Palnatoke (talk) 08:19, 21 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Jon Harald Søby (talk) 08:37, 21 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Request for more and better balanced sets of properties for Winter-sports-ID's edit

Thanks edit

Smørbrødliste av språk edit

Hei.

Mvh.--Anne-Sophie Ofrim (talk) 21:02, 17 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Gadget export edit

I want to download the Gadget export so I can update labels on items. I need help. I clicked download but I'm still missing something. Kkjj (talk) 12:32, 14 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hi Kkjj, I haven't used this before. Can you give me a link to where you've found it? Jon Harald Søby (talk) 14:19, 15 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

newbie question edit

Hell yes, I have questions. Thanks for asking! Here goes: There seem to be two established ways to link to things on Wikimedia Commons: With a "statement" (e.g. "Commons category") and with a link under "Other sites". So - I'm confused. What is for what here, exactly?--Flugaal (talk) 15:21, 14 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Flugaal, to be honest I'm not sure myself. The statement was created before using a sitelink was possible, so it might just be a remnant. The major difference between them AFAIK is that it's possible to have multiple statements, whereas it's only possible to use one sitelink, though I'm having a hard time imagining useful usecases for that. So I think using a sitelink is the best option. Jon Harald Søby (talk) 14:23, 15 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Sometimes there's a commons category as well as a gallery page for the topic. So i was tending towards the statements as the more specific thing...--Flugaal (talk) 15:55, 15 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Maybe Help:Sitelinks says that those are for interwiki linking? So maybe we need both, because we don't do interwiki linking by some standard on what to link in what case, which can be done automatically based on some systematically organized data, but instead we explicitly link some pages based on whatever someone feels to be an appropriate reasoning?--Flugaal (talk) 16:08, 15 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Yes, that's another thing: sitelinks are used for interwikis, but the statement can't be used for that. I think maybe you can ask this question in Wikidata:Project chat, there are sensible people there who can give better answers than I can to this question. :-) Jon Harald Søby (talk) 16:15, 15 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hello edit

What are the differences between wikipedia and wikidata ? if I edit on wikipedia then automatically appears on wikidata also ??--Alexiulian25 (talk) 18:36, 15 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hello, Alexiulian25! Wikipedia and Wikidata are separate projects, but they are closely connected. Wikipedia uses Wikidata to sort out all of the language links between articles. Because of this, certain edits you make in Wikipedia will automatically appear in Wikidata as well. For example, when you move a page from one name to another, that needs to be updated in Wikidata (so the language links will be correct in other languages), so that edit gets made automatically.
In addition to this, there is a whole lot of other stuff to do in Wikidata; you can maybe get an idea by checking out Wikidata:Introduction. Jon Harald Søby (talk) 18:42, 15 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
