Small typo

Happy new year!

I am currently improving Gilles Eckard (Q50990878) and there is a typo. Instead of an der l'Université de Neuchâtel you should put an der Université de Neuchâtel or, actually, an der Universität Neuenburg. For some reason there are dozens of items of literature professors of the University of Neuchâtel probably done by the same operator where the French name is used in the German description.I did not care too much, but that's the first one where a double article is used.

Also if you open the interface, maybe you want to update that he died (see IDREF and other external source). Bye! Alessandro Marchetti (WMCH) (talk) 13:19, 1 January 2024 (UTC)

Thanks for the note. I've updated the GND (created by DE-5 = ULB Bonn) and corrected the drag&drop description. --Kolja21 (talk) 13:49, 1 January 2024 (UTC)

Typo or rendering

Creating Anaele Simon (Q124089271) I have noticed that the GND entry shows "e͏̈" as separated "e" and ":". Is it rendering or can it be fixed? In any case, you might find some additional information in the IDs of the items if you want to update something (not a lot of it). Alessandro Marchetti (WMCH) (talk) 19:53, 2 January 2024 (UTC)

It's a known problem with the current DNB catalog. The new version (Betaversion) will display the name correctly. --Kolja21 (talk) 22:00, 2 January 2024 (UTC)

Dariusz Nowak

I am truly disappointed that you a priori assume that I don't know what I'm doing and first you revert my first and then write that I should check it. If my edit is wrong, correct it. If you don't know if it is wrong or correct, why do you edit it? Niegodzisie (talk) 17:18, 20 January 2024 (UTC)

Hi Niegodzisie, I did not want to annoy you. The ID you've added was already registered for another item. Since you speak Polish I've pinged you so you might have a look at the possible conflation:
User:Matlin, who created the items, is blocked. --Kolja21 (talk) 17:24, 20 January 2024 (UTC)

Gigi Riva

One of the most known Italian footballers, Gigi Riva (Q276026), died a few days ago; listening to a press review (while editing Wikidata) I heard that a less known homonym journalist, Gigi Riva (Q3764106), has struggled throughout his life with this homonymity (see his amusing article: https://www.editorialedomani.it/idee/cultura/lonore-di-essere-il-falso-gigi-riva-diario-di-una-omonimia-t6ey0vtj). The footballer wrote only the 3 things you find connected to him in SBN, whilst the journalist wrote many books, also about Jugoslavia; confusion is unfortunately widespread among many national libraries; since GND doesn't have the journalist, maybe it's better to prevent further confusion ;-) Thanks! --Epìdosis 17:17, 25 January 2024 (UTC)

Done With pleasure. --Kolja21 (talk) 18:16, 25 January 2024 (UTC)

Latvia

Hello Kolja21,

currently Q211#P227 says 4074187-4 (VIAF 125422131). But I think it's wrong. The correct viaf should be 237710820 - P227 122139-5. It's might be about Latvian Soviet Socialist Republic (Q192180). Geagea (talk) 12:52, 31 January 2024 (UTC)

Hi Geagea, this is a very good question. Looks like a duplicate. GND 4074187-4 (former SWD) is correct: 1) The form of naming, see "Land: Lettland (XA-LV)" and 2) Linking (Verwandter Begriff: Letten). Imho GND 122139-5 "Latvija (1918-1940; 21.08.1991- )" can be merged. This is an ID of the former GKD that has been overlooked. @Wurgl: You're the expert for geographical place names. What do you think? --Kolja21 (talk) 22:16, 31 January 2024 (UTC)
It seems that 122139-5 should be used from 1918 … 1940 and after 1991. The time between is addressed by 1009154-3 (=Q192180) and 4074187-4 seems to be some kind of duplicate from 1918 (or even before) till today.
As Kolja21 mentioned: The Deutsche Nationalbibliothek had various different catalogs, one was SWD (see: en:Schlagwortnormdatei), one was GKD (see: en:Gemeinsame Körperschaftsdatei) and in 2012 they merged them, but are still working on processing those duplicates. --Wurgl (talk) 22:34, 31 January 2024 (UTC)
Thanks very much for the detailed information. And thanks for the corrections you have made. Geagea (talk) 00:32, 1 February 2024 (UTC)

Chowanetz

I tend to think Joseph Chowanetz (Q94983337) and Joseph Chowanetz (Q94904399) are the same person, but I'm not fully sure; could you check and merge them if needed? Thanks! --Epìdosis 14:49, 2 February 2024 (UTC)

Done Merged. "Julian Chownitz" is a pseudonym. --Kolja21 (talk) 19:42, 2 February 2024 (UTC)

Carlo Mauri

Carlo Mauri (Q112606203) seems still alive, or surely his death didn't happen in 1982; the birthplace can be made more precise (my SBN authority record will be visible next week). Thanks! --Epìdosis 19:35, 23 January 2024 (UTC)

I have finished fixing all Carlo Mauri in SBN; Carlo Mauri (Q61477664) is surely identifiable with the translator Q112603563 you created; all my edits in SBN (including the new attributions of bibliographic records) will be visible on 29 or 30 January. For problematic cases of Italian homonyms like these of course you can always ask me and I will be happy to dive into the (frequent) confusion of SBN and try to clean it :) --Epìdosis 19:53, 23 January 2024 (UTC)
Thanks for the note. I've deleted the year of death for the photographer and created a GND for Carlo Mauri (Q370270): Italian mountaineer and explorer (1930-1982). When your edits in SBN/ICCU are visible I'll check again and fix the rest. --Kolja21 (talk) 22:47, 23 January 2024 (UTC)
Done All GNDs checked. --Kolja21 (talk) 21:03, 5 February 2024 (UTC)

Wrong place of birth

Hi, this person is related to me, and I can assure that she was not born in Pisa. I could tell you the right information, but it's probably personal. You could replace it with a more generic "province of Pisa" or remove it, but I wouldn't keep it as it is, it's misleading. Alexmar983 (talk) 05:05, 4 February 2024 (UTC)

It's official (GND 103546988X): "... vorgelegt von M.Sc. Ilaria Marchetti aus Pisa, Italien" but I can change "Geburtsort" (place of birth) to "Wirkungsort" (place of residence / place of action). BTW: There is an other person with that name: GND 1051846226. --Kolja21 (talk) 05:27, 4 February 2024 (UTC)
She was working in Germany and not in Pisa, she was originally active at the local University in Pisa or the CNR (research center) before moving to Germany; her original residence was not Pisa in any case. It's also possible that she did not understand the information required in some form, if so she probably meant Pisa as an area (that is, the province of Pisa) --Alexmar983 (talk) 08:34, 4 February 2024 (UTC)
Well in this case I can't help. In the authority control we only use published information. Officially she was born (or grew up) in Pisa even if this information is wrong. --Kolja21 (talk) 08:46, 4 February 2024 (UTC)

Antonino Gennaro

In https://d-nb.info/gnd/1264818467 the death year should be 1962 instead of 1952 (cf. Antonino Gennaro (Q55228088)). Thanks! --Epìdosis 14:55, 11 February 2024 (UTC)

Done Thanks. Typo fixed. --Kolja21 (talk) 15:59, 11 February 2024 (UTC)

List of users with editing access to databases for national authority control

Hi, FYI I would like to create a dedicated page here on Wikidata that lists all Wikidata users with access to certain databases for authority control. Starting with those in the VIAF ecosystem, I plan to include also link to procedures in some older local Wikipedia pages, the on-line forms or emails for database where reporting is only possible through their online system or point out cases where leaving a notification is currently not possible at all.

I recently realized that I know these things, but it's time-consuming to inform many users separately. I'd prefer a simple unified link to share. It would be reguarly updated.

I have obtained permission from User:Epìdosis to include his name. Would you be comfortable with me including your name for the GND? I can provide you with the sandbox link of the table for your reference. I won't initiate this before the end of February in any case. Alexmar983 (talk) 23:50, 26 January 2024 (UTC)

Good idea. You can include my name for the GND. Grazie per le informazioni. --Kolja21 (talk) 23:57, 26 January 2024 (UTC)
Thanks. Noted.--Alexmar983 (talk) 03:16, 27 January 2024 (UTC)

Hi, update. The page is ready, see Wikidata:WikiProject Authority control/Error reporting procedures. Regards.--Alexmar983 (talk) 16:57, 17 February 2024 (UTC)

Glauco Gottardi

If I understand correctly, the GND https://d-nb.info/gnd/171465970 is not about Glauco Gottardi (Q3771911); could you check and, if so, create a GND for this item (cf. e.g. https://d-nb.info/850268893)? Thanks! --Epìdosis 11:11, 14 February 2024 (UTC)

Done GND 171465970 = Giovanni Gottardi (Q124535503): Swiss civil engineer. Thanks for the hint. LCAuth has an other "G. Gottardi" = Giorgio Gottardi (Q124536178) who worked for the Univ. of Padua. --Kolja21 (talk) 14:41, 14 February 2024 (UTC)
@Epìdosis: I've moved the NSK ID (P1375) 000246627 from
Guido Gottardi is mentioned in the ISSMGE Bulletin: Volume 6, Issue 2, p. 24. --Kolja21 (talk) 19:53, 14 February 2024 (UTC)

Giovanni Grazzini

I'm a bit uncertain about the GND https://d-nb.info/gnd/1157662978 probably of Giovanni Grazzini (Q123926261): Italian philologist (1870-1943), since it's empty and there isn't Beacon anymore to check how it is used; the publications I see inside https://viaf.org/processed/DNB%7C1157662978 seem perfectly coherent with this person. Could you confirm? Thanks! --Epìdosis 14:22, 16 February 2024 (UTC)

Done I have added the information. You can also use OGND. It is more reliable than VIAF. --Kolja21 (talk) 16:22, 16 February 2024 (UTC)

--Arch2all (talk) Arch2all (talk) 09:22, 20 February 2024 (UTC)

Danke für den Hinweis. --Kolja21 (talk) 16:17, 20 February 2024 (UTC)

Assyriologist

Hi! In https://d-nb.info/gnd/118257789X "Assyriologie" is indicated as "Beruf(e)"; isn't it wrong, since Assyriology is a discipline and not a profession? Thanks! --Epìdosis 11:41, 23 February 2024 (UTC)

Done It was a workaround since there is no GND for "Assyriologe". Better "Altorientalist" (GND) with the addition "Assyriologe". --Kolja21 (talk) 12:18, 23 February 2024 (UTC)

Robert Donceel

Robert Donceel (Q97065285) is Belgian, not Bulgarian (probable mistake in selecting the country): https://d-nb.info/gnd/1161367934. Thanks! --Epìdosis 11:46, 23 February 2024 (UTC)

Done Thanks for the hint. --Kolja21 (talk) 12:22, 23 February 2024 (UTC)

Beacon

Hi! I was trying to use https://beacon.findbuch.de/seealso/pnd-aks?format=sources&id=116274689 (in order to check the homonymy Antonio Aita) but the entire website beacon.findbuch.de seems down; does it happen frequently? is it something serious or is it going to come back soon? Thanks as always, --Epìdosis 14:52, 15 January 2024 (UTC)

Hi @Epìdosis: I'm afraid the project has been canceled. Completely surprising to me, see de:Wikipedia Diskussion:Normdaten#Beispiel in der Einleitung der Projektseite Normdaten funktioniert nicht. --Kolja21 (talk) 21:23, 15 January 2024 (UTC)
This is a very sad news, since the time you suggested me this website I used it a significant number of times to check how GND authority records were used among libraries and if there were any wrong uses. I hope it will be restored some time in the future! --Epìdosis 17:21, 25 January 2024 (UTC)
I'm facing the same problem. @Emu: Do you know an easy to use alternative? Deutsche Biographie - Open Beacon has no focus on libraries catalogues and is too complicated for me. --Kolja21 (talk) 18:06, 25 January 2024 (UTC)
@Kolja21 No, sorry – I’m facing the same problem. --Emu (talk) 18:40, 25 January 2024 (UTC)
@Epìdosis: There is a new service from the LMU Munich called Prometheus. Example: Voltaire, GND 118627813. --Kolja21 (talk) 14:46, 25 February 2024 (UTC)
This is a great news!!! I added it here, https://www.wikidata.org/w/index.php?title=Property%3AP227&diff=2087029605&oldid=2087028898. Thanks, --Epìdosis 17:17, 25 February 2024 (UTC)

Sibylle Pieyre de Mandiargues

Sibylle Pieyre de Mandiargues (Q124662578): French screenwriter (1967-) = https://d-nb.info/gnd/138285292 says 1970 as birth year but LOC has no birth date and I'm unsure of what "BN-Opale" is exactly; other sources converge on 1967. Thanks, --Epìdosis 11:40, 26 February 2024 (UTC)

Done BN-Opale is the predecessor of BnF, see Liste der fachlichen Nachschlagewerke für die Gemeinsame Normdatei. I don't know how or whether you can view the old data so I've changed the source to BnF. As always, thanks for the tip! --Kolja21 (talk) 14:01, 26 February 2024 (UTC)

--Kolja21 (talk) 15:16, 27 February 2024 (UTC)

Gideon Shelach (Q18191272)

Hello Kolja21,

this 2-id's are for the same person - Israeli archaeologist specializing in China. Geagea (talk) 13:21, 28 February 2024 (UTC)

Thanks for the hint. I've filed a report, see de:Wikipedia:GND/Fehlermeldung/Februar 2024. --Kolja21 (talk) 14:26, 28 February 2024 (UTC)

Siegfried Hammer

https://ixtheo.de/search/results?lookfor=1197999396 this is a clear misuse of GND 1197999396: this work is by Siegfried Hammer (Q124692118): German priest (1934-1994) which seems not to have a GND. Thanks! --Epìdosis 23:10, 28 February 2024 (UTC) FYI @Bargioni: first good effects of working on Parsifal ;-)

The German priest has now GND 1322008159. His dissertation will be linked. --Kolja21 (talk) 00:27, 29 February 2024 (UTC)

Q94743853

Hello Kolja21,

Can you look at Q94743853. seems to be the same person. Geagea (talk) 15:27, 4 March 2024 (UTC)

Thanks for the merge. I've filed a report. --Kolja21 (talk) 15:39, 4 March 2024 (UTC)

Michael Bischoff (Q124737418)

I have created Michael Bischoff (Q124737418) and added the GND because publications were the same (for example "Alchemie - Magie oder Naturwissenschaft?") but the birth date not the same (1970 -->1949). And see also Michael Bischoff (Q95877210) same GND and Michael Bischoff (Q93506989) that the birth date fits but not publications and also he is translator. In your opinion where is the mistake GND or J9U and LCCN. Geagea (talk) 17:43, 4 March 2024 (UTC)

LCAuth n2007051793 mixes two persons, see Q95877210#P244:
  • Bischoff, Michael. Geschichtsbilder zwischen Fakt und Fabel, 2006:t.p. (Michael Bischoff) = Michael Bischoff (Q95877210): German art historian (1970- )
  • Augé, Marc. Orte und Nicht-Orte, 1994:title page (translated from the French by Michael Bischoff) = Michael Bischoff (Q93506989): German translator (1949- )
Both have an article in the German-language Wikipedia. --Kolja21 (talk) 20:19, 4 March 2024 (UTC)
J9U 002104333 (Geschichtsbilder zwischen Fakt und Fabel, 2006) = de:Michael Bischoff (Kunsthistoriker). --Kolja21 (talk) 20:29, 4 March 2024 (UTC)
Thank you very much. will ask to change the birth date in J9U. Geagea (talk) 23:22, 4 March 2024 (UTC)

Antonio Locatelli

https://d-nb.info/gnd/1072836688 who is he? I cannot find uses through Prometheus. Thanks! --Epìdosis 14:03, 6 March 2024 (UTC)

Hi, Antonio Locatelli (OGND), created for:
Created by DE-32 = Duchess Anna Amalia Library (Q50711). Later added by another library:

GND 1113561742: Antonio Locatelli (18th/19th century), engraver and art historian. I still have to check that ... --Kolja21 (talk) 16:55, 6 March 2024 (UTC)

@Epìdosis: That would be nice but to easy ;) Trattato del disegno e della pittura in miniatura (1768) was published before Antonio Locatelli (1786-1848) was born. Is there a publisher of this name (Venezia: Locatelli, 1768)? --Kolja21 (talk) 21:20, 6 March 2024 (UTC)
You are right, surely a different person; a printer active in Venice in the 18th century: I created Antonio Locatelli (Q124756364): Italian publisher (18th century). I don't have infos besides the published books themselves. Epìdosis 22:33, 6 March 2024 (UTC)

Gertrud Wertheim

Hallo, könntest du dir die Gertrud Wertheims anschauen? Gertrud Wertheim (Q95751879) = 134698320. Danke! --Emu (talk) 22:48, 12 March 2024 (UTC)

Hallo Emu, Frage 1 ist leicht zu beantworten. "Concerto für Cembalo ... / hrsg. von Gertrud Wertheim" = Gertrud Wertheim (Q95751879): no description.

--Kolja21 (talk) 15:58, 19 March 2024 (UTC)

S. K. B. Asante

There is a widespread confusion between two important Ghanaian personalities, Samuel Kingsley Botwe Asante (Q125220430): Ghanaian political scientist (1932-2020) and Samuel Kwadwo Boaten Asante (Q16148790): Ghanaian lawyer and traditional ruler (1933-), which I have tried to disentangle; LOC correctly has two authority records although some bibliographic records are wrongly attributed; https://www.modernghana.com/news/1099665/goodbye-to-a-great-akyem-abuakwa-educationist.html is the best source for distinguishing them. According to my research, most bibliographic records belong to the first (1932-2020), the political scientist; the second (1933-), the lawyer, has written (IMHO):

  • A commitment to law, development and public policy ([1] [2] this is sure because Nana is in the title);
  • Property law and social goals in Ghana ([3], [4], [5])
  • the publications with "law" in their title, or the articles extracted from journals having "law" in their title (a few in K10Plus and SWB)

Complex case, anyway ... Thanks as always, --Epìdosis 18:52, 30 March 2024 (UTC)

Quite challenging. GND 170063690 was created by DE-206 for these publications. So you think African development (1991) was written by Samuel Kingsley Botwe Asante (Q125220430): Ghanaian political scientist (1932-2020)? Can we trust LCAuth with the year of birth 1932?
  • GND 170063690 (created for publication 1981) = LCAuth n82158150: Asante, Samuel K. B. (Samuel Kwadwo Boaten), 1933-
  • The later mixed bio (Weitere Angaben) and the title African development needs to be removed. Correct?
--Kolja21 (talk) 14:20, 31 March 2024 (UTC)
I confirm, African development is by the political scientist born in 1932 (https://www.modernghana.com/news/1099665/goodbye-to-a-great-akyem-abuakwa-educationist.html confirms that the birthplace is Soabe; and since LoC takes the birthdate and birthplace from a publication, I think it can be trusted). In https://d-nb.info/gnd/170063690 I confirm that "Weitere Angaben" should be rewritten and African development removed. Among the publications in https://www.econbiz.de/Search/Results?lookfor=gnd:170063690, I think they are all by the political scientist except Transnational investment law and national development. --Epìdosis 08:09, 1 April 2024 (UTC)
Done Thanks for your research. GND 170063690 corrected and GND 1324950617 for the political scientist created. I've filed a report for the wrong linked title. --Kolja21 (talk) 16:14, 1 April 2024 (UTC)

Hallo Kolja,

--Kolja21 (talk) 17:58, 13 April 2024 (UTC)

https://swb.boss.bsz-bw.de/search/results?lookfor0[]=gnd_from:188430121 and https://ixtheo.de/search/results?lookfor=188430121 make a significant misuse of https://d-nb.info/gnd/188430121 correctly regarding Alessandro Pandolfi (Q3610189): Italian painter, engraver and ceramist (1887-1953); these bibliographic records are instead by Alessandro Pandolfi (Q125547402): Italian historian of political thought (1955-2017). Thanks! --Epìdosis 11:00, 22 April 2024 (UTC)

Thanks for the hint. I've created GND 132697226X for the Italian historian of political thought. --Kolja21 (talk) 15:34, 22 April 2024 (UTC)
@Epìdosis: Tübingen (RelBib) was fast. The historian has his first article, see Q125547402#P10553. --Kolja21 (talk) 06:12, 24 April 2024 (UTC)

Anna Sconza

https://d-nb.info/gnd/139114599 has 1978- but all other sources converge on 1975- (Anna Sconza (Q125577830)). --Epìdosis 09:17, 24 April 2024 (UTC)

Done Thanks for the error message. --Kolja21 (talk) 09:49, 24 April 2024 (UTC)

Sabine Arndt

Was I correct in deprecating the VIAF in Sabine Arndt (Q124625152): German animal therapist (1965-), right? Who is the author of Handbuch der Musik im 20. Jahrhundert? Thanks, --Epìdosis 08:12, 2 May 2024 (UTC)

Undoubtedly a conflation. DNB identifies the co-author of Handbuch der Musik im 20. Jahrhundert (2006) as a physician born 1963 (GND 118125265). Looks like an other conflation. I'll see what I can do. --Kolja21 (talk) 14:35, 2 May 2024 (UTC)
I've created Sabine Arndt (Q125750616), Mitarbeit an der Aufsatzsammlung Musik und Kulturbetrieb (2006), and filed a report. Her biographical data can be found on page 366 ("Die Autoren der Beiträge"). --Kolja21 (talk) 15:57, 2 May 2024 (UTC)

Alexandru Ioniță

Could you check https://d-nb.info/gnd/132842610 = Alexandru Ioniță (Q2643867): Romanian tenor (1948-2010)? The date 1953- (which also spreaded to Alexandru Ioniţă (Q125754658): Romanian theologian) seems wrong and I don't know if it should be applied to the second person or to neither. Thanks as always, --Epìdosis 20:53, 13 May 2024 (UTC) P.S. @Bargioni: reported me a conflation in SBN which I will solve tomorrow hopefully

Looking at the CV the theologian is probably born in the 1980s, since he got a BA in 2006; I found the birthplace but not the birth year unfortunately. Epìdosis 21:03, 13 May 2024 (UTC)
So the year 1953 for the opera singer is mentioned in the literature but remains unconfirmed. Thanks for the hint! I've updated GND 132842610 based on Bayer. Musikerlex. Online and filed a report for the newly created duplicate GND 132818157X (02-05-24). --Kolja21 (talk) 22:39, 13 May 2024 (UTC)

Marcus Würmli

In your opinion Marcus Würmli (Q98594854): Swiss entomologist is the same person of https://viaf.org/viaf/569041/? Thanks, --Epìdosis 13:53, 18 May 2024 (UTC)

Yes maybe, but a bit to active for one author. Unfortunately I couldn't find the doctor theses of Marcus Würmli (Q98594854): Swiss entomologist. The VIAF Würmli could also be his son or a mix of two persons. GND 1053055692 claims he is a:
  • children's book author
  • nonfiction author
  • translator
There is a second name "Marcus Würmli-Dell'Orto" and only one source (LCAuth: Alle Weine Österreichs und der Schweiz, 1984) that does not provide evidence of the statements.
I've created Marcus Würmli (Q125972112): Swiss non-fiction author and translator and connected the two items with said to be the same as (P460). --Kolja21 (talk) 18:27, 18 May 2024 (UTC)
PS: I've found "Marcus Würmli-Dell'Orto" only connected with wine so I would have kept him separate. --Kolja21 (talk) 18:32, 18 May 2024 (UTC)
@Kolja21: thanks very much for the investigation; I have added other IDs to the second. I agree about keeping them separate, in fact I also hadn't found proofs for a complete merge. Epìdosis 08:59, 19 May 2024 (UTC)

Gisella Cantino Wataghin

https://d-nb.info/gnd/140799192 = Gisella Cantino Wataghin (Q95199648): I find no confirmation in LC for the date 1952 provided by GND; instead, BNF has 1941 and it is confirmed by a (very good) database of the students of the University of Turin. --Epìdosis 14:24, 19 May 2024 (UTC) BTW, the mistake 1952 has filtered in other authority files: J9U (@Geagea:) and PLWABN

Done Indeed "Anno d'immatricolazione: 1959" does not match the year of birth 1952 and the source LCAuth was misleading. --Kolja21 (talk) 19:24, 19 May 2024 (UTC)

Franz Josef Hassel

https://d-nb.info/gnd/1296482146 in the RDF "1032-12-30" should be "1931-12-30". Thanks, --Epìdosis 22:21, 19 May 2024 (UTC)

Done Typo fixed. Thanks for the hint. --Kolja21 (talk) 03:34, 20 May 2024 (UTC)

Grüße vom Sänger ♫ (talk) 11:53, 23 May 2024 (UTC)

Bitte informiere dich in Wikipedia: de:Bündnis 90/Die Grünen (Kurzbezeichnung: Grüne). Die Bezeichnungen in Wikidata sollen einheitlich sein, daher nicht "Klaus Schütz, deutscher Politiker (Sozialdemokratische Partei Deutschlands), MdA, MdB", sondern Klaus Schütz (Q215756): German politician (SPD) (1926-2012). --Kolja21 (talk) 11:59, 23 May 2024 (UTC)
Grüße vom Sänger ♫ (talk) 12:03, 23 May 2024 (UTC)
--Kolja21 (talk) 12:06, 23 May 2024 (UTC)
Grüße vom Sänger ♫ (talk) 12:36, 23 May 2024 (UTC)
Ludwig Lauth

http://d-nb.info/gnd/128031573 seems to refer to the same Ludwig Lauth as http://d-nb.info/gnd/117738832. At least the obituary of L. Lauth (1902-1969; https://www.zobodat.at/biografien/Lauth_Ludwig_Oberoesterr-Heimatbl_1969_3_4_0032_7-8.pdf) renders this almost certain. SimonEUV (talk) 19:35, 28 May 2024 (UTC)

Done Thanks for the hint. I've updated the GND and reported the duplicate. --Kolja21 (talk) 23:59, 28 May 2024 (UTC)

Richard Schlegel

Richard Schlegel (1865-1933, ornithologist) has GND:117643475. A likely duplicate is GND:105536482X, but the scanty data make it difficult to decide. Could you look into this? Thank you! SimonEUV (talk) 03:06, 29 May 2024 (UTC)

Done GND 105536482X created by DE-7 for Die Vogelwelt des nordwestlichen Sachsenlandes (1925) so the GNDs can be merged. I've field a report at de:WP:GND/F. --Kolja21 (talk) 07:48, 29 May 2024 (UTC)

Gabriele Mauthe

Most likely publications of two different persons are linked to GND:1119927706. Gabriele Mauthe (ÖNB) is the author/contributor in: 'Maria Theresia : Habsburgs mächtigste Frau' and 'Handbuch österreichischer Autorinnen und Autoren jüdischer Herkunft'. Whereas the remaining publications linked, are by a likely different Gabriele Mauthe (local historian, active in Niedersachsen, no WD). I can't see if there is also a conflation in the GND:1119927706 person entry. SimonEUV (talk) 04:10, 29 May 2024 (UTC)

Two historians with the same name is challenging. GND 1119927706 was created most likely for the author of "12 Stockschläge auf den Rücken" - Friedrich und Dorothea. Zwei Habenichtse im Bauerndorf des 19. Jahrhunderts (2016) by Friedrich Mauthe/Gabriele Mauthe/Heinrich Nädler. Friedrich Mauthe, a geologist and local historian, was born in 1937. I've created Gabriele Mauthe (Q126178125): no description for his coauthor (are they married?) but the question remains which of the two women was born in 1952. I assume the Austrian librarian but I found no prove. @Emu: Can you take a look at this case? --Kolja21 (talk) 08:41, 29 May 2024 (UTC)
PS: Die Österreicherin jetzt unter GND 1331085152. --Kolja21 (talk) 09:21, 29 May 2024 (UTC)
--Emu (talk) 20:16, 29 May 2024 (UTC)
--Kolja21 (talk) 07:17, 30 May 2024 (UTC)

Karin Winter

SimonEUV (talk) 12:11, 29 May 2024 (UTC)

--Kolja21 (talk) 16:20, 29 May 2024 (UTC)
SimonEUV (talk) 07:26, 30 May 2024 (UTC)
--Kolja21 (talk) 07:38, 30 May 2024 (UTC)

Franziska Denner

SimonEUV (talk) 13:06, 30 May 2024 (UTC)

Done Die Dublette steht in Property talk:P227/Constraint violations/Single best value constraint. --Kolja21 (talk) 13:32, 30 May 2024 (UTC)

Hjalmar Thiel

--Kolja21 (talk) 13:59, 1 June 2024 (UTC)

Antonio Yelo Templado

Antonio Yelo Templado (Q110609342): Spanish priest and Church historian (1929-2015) the birth date in GND 1930 has no source; the dates 1929-2015 seem sure per the death announce; no idea about the origin of 1930 and 1935 honestly. Thanks! --Epìdosis 21:21, 1 June 2024 (UTC)

Done Easy to answer ;) GND created for the publication Lengua e historia: homenaje al profesor Dr. D. Antonio Yelo Templado al cumplir 65 años (1995). 1995 minus 65 = 1930. Thanks for the notice. --Kolja21 (talk) 21:40, 1 June 2024 (UTC)

Oswald Jordan

--Kolja21 (talk) 13:01, 4 June 2024 (UTC)

Martin Tetz

Martin Tetz (Q28831886): no description the two sources of German Wikipedia agree on Dölitz as birthplace, but GND says Leipzig; I fear GND has mistaken Dölitz (Q1271055): quarter in Leipzig, Germany with Dolice (Q15214503): village in Gmina Dolice, Poland, the second one being correct. Thanks, --Epìdosis 22:52, 4 June 2024 (UTC)

Giuseppe Piombanti

Hi! I found a series of significant misuses of https://d-nb.info/gnd/131782002 (in which, anyway, I would give "Piombanti Ammannati, Giuseppe" as preferred form), regarding Giuseppe Piombanti Ammannati (Q126371983): Italian painter, scultor and ceramist (1898-1996); many of the books attributed to him are effectively by Giuseppe Piombanti (Q126372021): Italian priest (1831-1909): in B3Kat Guida storica ed artistica della città e dei dintorni di Livorno and Guida della città di San Miniato al Tedesco and La Certosa di Pisa e dell'Isola di Gorgona con notizie inedite e la descrizione della prima come esiste presentemente and Storia della miracolosa immagine di Maria SS. di Montenero presso Livorno are wrongly attributed; in K10Plus Guida della città di San Miniato al tedesco; in OBV [Biografie populari dei papi.]. Attributions in SBN are already correct. Thanks as always, --Epìdosis 09:18, 6 June 2024 (UTC)

Done I can't change the preferred form. (The main name in GNDs with the cataloging level 1-3 is blocked.) It's confusing but no error, since "Piombanti, Giuseppe" is used by AKL online. I've created a GND for the Priest and filed a report for the BSB (B3Kat). --Kolja21 (talk) 13:43, 6 June 2024 (UTC)

P.S. my bot started working this evening; it improves old imperfect references based on GND ID (P227). When it will finish running (it will take 1-3 months depending on how much I will be online this summer) it will be easier to discover other cases of dissent between sex or gender (P21) on Wikidata and Geschlecht in GND. Epìdosis 20:31, 13 June 2024 (UTC)
Thanks for the list. Filmportal is quite challenging and will cause a lot of work:
--Kolja21 (talk) 20:52, 13 June 2024 (UTC)
@Epìdosis: A special case from your query is Agnes Elisabeth Overbeck (Wikipedia) vs. Eugen B. Onegin (GND): transgender & male. GND only gives her/his birth name in the notes. --Kolja21 (talk) 08:40, 14 June 2024 (UTC)
For this case I would suggest sex or gender (P21)trans man (Q2449503). Epìdosis 08:45, 14 June 2024 (UTC)
That would be more precise but deWP is using the Category:Transgender people (Q6063345) so we would need an other source. --Kolja21 (talk) 08:50, 14 June 2024 (UTC)
PS: Feel free to improve it. We don't need to be slave to the categories. --Kolja21 (talk) Kolja21 (talk) 08:53, 14 June 2024 (UTC)
@Epìdosis: Any idea what to do with Hedwig (Q19689438), female given name? Correct this item or creating a new one? Hedwig Pauwels (Q117789746) is the rare case where it is used as a male given name. --Kolja21 (talk) 11:18, 15 June 2024 (UTC)
@Kolja21: I would suggest a new item for male given name; there are some other cases like Andrea. Epìdosis 14:07, 15 June 2024 (UTC)
Done Thanks. I've created Hedwig (Q126680999): male given name. --Kolja21 (talk) 14:21, 15 June 2024 (UTC)

Altino

Hi! I don't usually ask you about places, but working on User:Anna Clara Maniero Azzolini/Altinum I came to something strange: https://d-nb.info/gnd/4597163-8 has the coordinates of Altino (Q51179): Italian comune in Central Italy, but the connected publication clearly regards the (more famous) Roman city of Altinum (Q441542): national museum near Venice, corresponding to modern Altino (Q1773579): human settlement in Quarto d'Altino, Metropolitan City of Venice, Veneto, Italy. Could you have a look? Thanks, --Epìdosis 22:15, 23 June 2024 (UTC)

The expert for places is @Wurgl: Kannst du das überprüfen? --Kolja21 (talk) 22:23, 23 June 2024 (UTC)
I would guess the ancient city. Coordinates seem to come from some bot. When you look at https://swb.bsz-bw.de/DB=2.104/SET=1/TTL=1/CMD?retrace=0&trm_old=&ACT=SRCHA&IKT=2999&SRT=RLV&TRM=4597163-8 you see at the bottom "Untergeordnete GND-Sätze" and there you see only(?) items near Venice. I will send a mail to DNB, but the answer may take some time. --Wurgl (talk) 05:40, 24 June 2024 (UTC)
@Epìdosis: Sometimes they are unbelievable fast, take a look at https://d-nb.info/gnd/4597163-8 --Wurgl (talk) 14:57, 25 June 2024 (UTC)

Sebastiano Viotti

Hi! I have a case that was reported me, very precisely, by @Gentile64:. So https://d-nb.info/gnd/1074962788 has attributed to an Italian theologian the dates 1921-2011 on the basis of Internet, very probably page 48 of this document; on the basis of this GND I created (through a larger import) Sebastiano Viotti (Q113831720): Italian priest (1921-2011); it turns out that the Italian priest born in 1921 and died in 2011 mentioned in that document was not the Italian theologian, who was much younger, since he was born in 1943 and died in 2023 - for him I have just created Sebastiano Viotti (Q126898677): Italian Salesian priest and theologian (1943–2023). Could you correct the dates of GND and move it to the new item? I would keep the other for the priest 1921-2011, since we have a few sources about him, and it's anyway useful to avoid (hopefully) future confusions. --Epìdosis 19:12, 24 June 2024 (UTC)

@Epìdosis: I've corrected the vital information and marked the Index Theologicus as conflation (hopefully solved automatically). --Kolja21 (talk) 19:58, 27 June 2024 (UTC)

Marie Hein

Wilhelm Hein (Q2573103): Austrian ethnologist and orientalist (1861-1903)]" lauten sollte? Danke! SimonEUV (talk) 05:36, 26 June 2024 (UTC)

GND

In reference to your comment about GND in revision https://www.wikidata.org/w/index.php?title=Q61749519&oldid=prev&diff=2199081034 the issue was that the "GND identifier" (P227) didn't "know" about deutsche-biographie.de's use of GND identifiers, I have added the relevant regex to its "URL match pattern", thanks for the spot Back ache (talk) 15:40, 9 July 2024 (UTC)

Thanks for the improvement. The regex issue is beyond my technical knowledge. Kolja21 (talk) 16:45, 9 July 2024 (UTC)

Henri de Bizemont

Henri de Bizemont (Q126193451): French geographer (1839-1899) seems clearly born in 1839; no source for the 1829 in https://d-nb.info/gnd/132386194. Thanks! --Epìdosis 16:10, 9 July 2024 (UTC)

Done Now fixed. I assume "born 1829" was taken from the National Library of Chile. --Kolja21 (talk) 23:35, 9 July 2024 (UTC)

Myron Rush

In hebis I see a misuse of https://d-nb.info/gnd/112301150 = Myron Rush (Q127425860): psychologist and consultant; How communist states change their rulers, The international situation and Soviet foreign policy : key reports by Soviet leaders from the revolution to the present and other publications of international studies (not psychology) are clearly by Myron Rush (Q54263586): American military personnel. Thanks! --Epìdosis 14:11, 14 July 2024 (UTC)

Hi Epìdosis, I can't correct hebis but I've add GND 170206963 for the military personnel/political scientist. --Kolja21 (talk) 06:43, 15 July 2024 (UTC)

Vincenzo Montecalvi

https://d-nb.info/gnd/1021287164 (= Vincenzo Montecalvi (Q94869933): Italian philosopher (1573-1637)) has a clearly wrong birth year 1543, with no source; it should be 1573. Thanks, --Epìdosis 16:22, 14 July 2024 (UTC)

Done GND created by Deutsches Dokumentationszentrum für Kunstgeschichte - Bildarchiv Foto Marburg (Q860570). Thanks for the hint. --Kolja21 (talk) 06:57, 15 July 2024 (UTC)

Marguerite Fiévez

A wrong, and with no sources, death year (1967; should be 2000) in https://d-nb.info/gnd/1147211337 = Marguerite Fiévez (Q113731811): no description. Thanks, --Epìdosis 17:40, 14 July 2024 (UTC)

Done Thanks again! 1967 was the year when cardinal Joseph Cardijn died. I have revised the data record accordingly. --Kolja21 (talk) 07:19, 15 July 2024 (UTC)

Jean-Michel Poffet

https://d-nb.info/gnd/172310504 I'm unsure about the link with Iran (I find no clue online); was it maybe Israel, since he was active in Jerusalem? Thanks, --Epìdosis 17:10, 17 July 2024 (UTC)

Done Obvious typo. I've change XB-IR to XB-IL (Israel). Thanks for the note. --Kolja21 (talk) 18:46, 17 July 2024 (UTC)
PS: Jean-Michel Poffet (Q66596153) is Swiss, not French. (I've changed the description to "sacerdote e teologo svizzero".) --Kolja21 (talk) 18:54, 17 July 2024 (UTC)

Double 375a

https://d-nb.info/gnd/143226231 I see both 1 and 2 in field 375a, obviously only 1 (male) is correct and 2 (female) should be removed. Thanks! --Epìdosis 11:08, 20 July 2024 (UTC)

Other cases: --Epìdosis 11:17, 20 July 2024 (UTC)
Never seen something like that. There should be only one field for the gender. In the cases of Kellermann, Lundgren and Hahn I've put both on "male". --Kolja21 (talk) 11:30, 20 July 2024 (UTC)
Others: https://d-nb.info/gnd/135465281, https://d-nb.info/gnd/135398258. Whilst https://d-nb.info/gnd/119348144 is just wrong. Epìdosis 12:33, 20 July 2024 (UTC)

Agar Brugiavini

https://d-nb.info/gnd/129795968 1992 is impossible as birth date; it should be 1958 = Agar Brugiavini (Q41805461): Italian economist (1958-). Thanks, --Epìdosis 12:34, 20 July 2024 (UTC)

Done Thanks. A common mistake: floruit 1992 (LCAuth) added to the wrong field. --Kolja21 (talk) 13:51, 20 July 2024 (UTC)

Some strange 404 errors

Hi! In a few items like Princess Akiko of Mikasa (Q2379961) and Aubert of Cambrai (Q2870589) (edit: and Johannes Gerloff (Q1399587)) I have obtained strange 404 erros for the GND IDs, despite the fact that they are normally present in VIAF clusters. Have you any hint why these happen? Are they just temporary errors? Should they be reported? Thanks, --Epìdosis 13:57, 20 July 2024 (UTC)

We have had several of these cases. It's a technical problem with the old DNB catalog. The new version has not yet been released. I've left a note at the item and filed a report. --Kolja21 (talk) 14:28, 20 July 2024 (UTC)
OK, thanks for the clear explanation. I hope the new version of the DNB catalog will be released soon. I will report you similar cases when I find them. Epìdosis 14:38, 20 July 2024 (UTC)
@Wurgl: Do you remember these cases? Should we make a list? I've reported only the first two. BTW: The GND-Webformular shows three different error messages:
  • korrektes Unterfeld (z.B. '$g') fehlt in 'Andere Namen - Vornamen/Nachname' vor '$T01'
  • korrektes Unterfeld (z.B.
--Kolja21 (talk) 14:53, 20 July 2024 (UTC)

There is a new interface, which works for the last Example mentioned by Epìdosis https://katalog.dnb.de/DE/list.html?key=all&key.GROUP=1&t=1066479690&sortD=-dat&sortA=bez&pr=0&v=plist&submit.x=0&submit.y=0 and this new beta version of the public web-interface works for the other three too? --Wurgl (talk) 15:18, 20 July 2024 (UTC)

+1. This is the new catalog I was talking about. I don't know if the beta phase will end this year. They've been testing it for months now. --Kolja21 (talk) 15:33, 20 July 2024 (UTC)
Wrote a mail to my contact person. Now lets wait a few days. --Wurgl (talk) 15:37, 20 July 2024 (UTC)
Thank you very much for looking into this; and I'm looking forward to the new catalogue. Another case: Leslie Browne (Q451916). --Epìdosis 20:40, 20 July 2024 (UTC)
Strange. All IDs start with 1066. Just Coincidence? --Wurgl (talk) 20:52, 20 July 2024 (UTC)
Maybe not: another case in Amanda Pays (Q454048), also this starts with 1066. Epìdosis 21:06, 20 July 2024 (UTC) Another one also starting in 1066: Tanya Neufeldt (Q1359763). I will go on tomorrow. --Epìdosis 21:58, 20 July 2024 (UTC)

List of problematic 1066... IDs

God in Islam (Q2095353)

Hi Kolja21. I hope you're doing well. I would like to respectfully ask you the reason for your removal of the GND identifier Allah from the WD item: God in Islam (Q2095353). Regards. Soufiyouns (talk) 09:59, 24 July 2024 (UTC)

Hi Soufiyouns, like you say, GND 4219322-9 is the identifier for Allah (Q234801). If you got an identifier for John F. Kennedy (Q9696) it is the identifier for this person. It's not the identifier for the 439 items linked to Kennedy. Identifiers should only be used for one item! That's why they are called "identifiers". Please take it serious if there is an exclamation mark (!) after your edits. It means something is wrong. Kolja21 (talk) 11:02, 24 July 2024 (UTC)
@Kolja21: Thank you for your friendly response which allows me to discuss this important subject with you. Indeed, the item "Allah" (Q234801) concerns a word (text) in Arabic which means God for all religions, and it does not exclusively concern Islam. On the other hand, the item "God in Islam" (Q2095353) concerns the God venerated in Islam. Therefore, the identifier GND Allah should be linked to the deity God in Islam (Q2095353) and not to the textual word Allah (Q234801). What is your opinion, and have I been convincing? Regards. Soufiyouns (talk) 11:27, 24 July 2024 (UTC)
Moving GND 4219322-9 would be possible but confusing. There are 138 articles about en:Allah. After moving the identifier to "God in Islam" Allah would even not exist in German Wikipedia even though Muslims are the second-largest religious community in this country. Kolja21 (talk) 11:46, 24 July 2024 (UTC)
@Kolja21: I thank you again for your educational patience and your clear explanation. You have thus allowed me to understand the context in which this question concerning the GND identifier (4219322-9) arises. Indeed, the German Wikipedia site has only created one article linked to the textual word Allah linked to the corresponding item Allah (Q234801). And so, no article on "https://de.wikipedia.org/" has been created for the subject "God in Islam", and therefore no German link exists on the item God in Islam (Q2095353). According to you, and what I understood from your explanation above, it is then useless and rather confusing to write a duplicate of the GND identifier on an item not linked to any German article. Regards. Soufiyouns (talk) 13:49, 24 July 2024 (UTC)

Matteo Guidotti

Hi, as part of the Swiss researchers project while cleaning homonyms, I have spotted a big conflation of two (or three) different people on many national databases linked to the VIAF. See here. User:Epìdosis has cleaned also something today. Please if you could, you could clean the GND entry. Alessandro Marchetti (WMCH) (talk) 10:19, 27 July 2024 (UTC)

You can use the SBN ID in Matteo Guidotti (Q57600224) and Matteo Guidotti (Q127867546). Epìdosis updated them properly. The third persone is a Swiss professor but I don't think he is on the GND--Alessandro Marchetti (WMCH) (talk) 10:22, 27 July 2024 (UTC)
Hi Alessandro, thanks for the hint. The ORCID IDs were imported automatically and in this case unfortunately incorrect. I've created GND 133706517X for the chemist and filed a report regarding the linked articles. --Kolja21 (talk) 12:59, 27 July 2024 (UTC)
PS: If you have a ORCID account AND there are articles from you in the DNB you can claim them through ORCID. This is the best (and fastest) way to avoid import errors. --Kolja21 (talk) 13:10, 27 July 2024 (UTC)
PPS: You see the ORCID ID if you use OGND. (The DNB catalog is currently being revised and I don't know when the new version will go online.) --Kolja21 (talk) 13:15, 27 July 2024 (UTC)
Ok, I will inform people about that! Thx.--Alessandro Marchetti (WMCH) (talk) 14:11, 27 July 2024 (UTC)

Johann Gottlieb Ehrlich

Johann Gottlieb Ehrlich (Q124646776): German theologian this person described in the Russian biographical dictionary, homonym of two other 18th-century persons, seems not to have a GND; is it plausible or am I missing something? Thanks, --Epìdosis 08:39, 28 July 2024 (UTC)

WBIS has six entries for this name. I assume he is identical with Johann Gottlieb Ehrlich (Q127970558) a pastor active in Hamburg in 1799:
  • Both theologians are from Berlin
  • Erik-Amburger-Datenbank: "kehrt nach Deutschland zurück" (moved back to Germany)
@Henry Merrivale, Olaf Simons: FYI. --Kolja21 (talk) 12:56, 28 July 2024 (UTC)
In fact I was uncertain about this identification; I added this GND but then I had some doubts and I removed it. Thanks for the check and for merging the two items if effectively the identification is reasonably certain after due check. Epìdosis 14:51, 28 July 2024 (UTC)

GND identifier

Hi Kolja21. Thank you for the information that the GND identifier is a multilingual authority file, and that one does not need to specify that its notice is in German. Thank you for all your very informative remarks. Regards. Soufiyouns (talk) 16:31, 28 July 2024 (UTC)

I will give you an example to illustrate your advice. I searched the DNB portal to find the GND identifier for the item Chishti order (Q137111). I found it 4258428-0 and added it to the item by mentioning its title without entering any language. You see that I am very active in enriching the WD items with GND identifiers. Regards. Soufiyouns (talk) 17:08, 28 July 2024 (UTC)

Filip Bednorz

https://d-nb.info/gnd/1073848337 should not have "Bischof" among its occupations; he was just a priest, as the sources mentioned in the ID say. Thanks, --Epìdosis 17:27, 28 July 2024 (UTC)

Done "... capitular vicar of the Katowice diocese during the exile of the bishops of the Katowice diocese." This sentence could have caused the error. Kolja21 (talk) 18:52, 28 July 2024 (UTC)

Jun Ebara

Jun Ebara (Q128031943): Japanese art critic (1927-2002) = https://d-nb.info/gnd/1278914366 I think "Erläuternder Text" should be removed; he was also an art critic according to LC, it could be useful to add it. Thanks as always, --Epìdosis 10:19, 29 July 2024 (UTC)

Done Indeed "Erläuternder Text" wasn't a good job description. --Kolja21 (talk) 19:53, 29 July 2024 (UTC)

Done Thx for the notice. --Kolja21 (talk) 14:51, 30 July 2024 (UTC)

Dörlesberg

I know that you don't focus much on place GND IDs, but I'd have a curiosity: given Dörlesberg (Q1271283): quarter of Wertheim, Baden-Württemberg, Germany, are https://d-nb.info/gnd/7817234-2 and https://d-nb.info/gnd/10353406-4 both about it or are they somehow different? Thanks, --Epìdosis 19:21, 30 July 2024 (UTC)

One is the ID from the Subject Headings Authority File (Q897080) (SWD) the other the ID from the Corporate Bodies Authority File (Q872551) (GKD). Different authority files with different rules. In the case of places the SWD is the winner. (The merged GND will be called "Wertheim-Dörlesberg" and, if the librarian is motivated, a new GND will be created for the formerly independent municipality "Dörlesberg", till 1972.) --Kolja21 (talk) 21:31, 30 July 2024 (UTC)

Looking for a catalog

Hi! I have an unusual request, since it regards my studies as hellenist: I'm looking for a specific copy of the 18th-century edition by Johann Jacob Reiske (Q68112) of the works of Libanius (Q263892), a copy which was annotated by Karl Sintenis (Q107294) with his thoughts about how to improve the text; according to Richard Foerster (Q90899) in 1903 (I quote from Libanii opera I, p. 78: Carolus Sintenis, qui paucas quidem emendationes publici iuris fecit (Herm. I 468 sq.), plures in margine posuit exemplaris editionis Reiskianae quod hodie in bibliotheca gymnasii Franciscei Servestani conservatur) this copy was held in the library of the Francisceum (= Library of the Francisceum (Q17321687)). Since I'm unable to find an online catalog of the books presently held in this library, my question is: am I just unable to find this online catalog, or effectively the library doesn't have an online catalog and I should contact it via email? Thanks, --Epìdosis 13:17, 17 August 2024 (UTC)

Here is the list of the catalogs of the Francisceumsbibliothek: 3. Kataloge. They don't have an online catalog but "die Bestände sind im Zentralkatalog Sachsen-Anhalt nachgewiesen". These are scans of card catalogues. --Kolja21 (talk) 13:56, 17 August 2024 (UTC)

duplicate of field?

Hi, here the field "Beruf(e)" has twice the same statement. That should be removed, am I right? Alessandro Marchetti (WMCH) (talk) 20:41, 18 August 2024 (UTC)

Hi, these are imports or merges. They don't look nice but are no real errors. In this case I can't edit the GND without the loss of exact date of birth: Q124452146#P569. (Information privacy: For living persons, only the year is permitted.) I hope a bot will do I vaguely remember that a bot does a clean up once a while. BTW: Why did you create Alexander K. Swoboda (Q129271284) with the same ID? --Kolja21 (talk) Kolja21 (talk) 21:17, 18 August 2024 (UTC)
PS: Strangely, Q124452146 shows an   error message. For Q129271284 the message is missing. --Kolja21 (talk) 21:24, 18 August 2024 (UTC)
@Alessandro Marchetti (WMCH): I have merged the two items into Alexander K. Swoboda (Q124452146); the form "Alexandre Swoboda" seems just a mistake for "Alexander Swoboda" on the page of the Geneva Graduate Institute. Epìdosis 17:43, 21 August 2024 (UTC)

https://d-nb.info/gnd/174138067 = Alonso Messia Bedoya (Q2650569): Peruvian Jesuit (1655-1732) requires some fixes, in fact the data in "Weitere Angaben" are correct and contradict the data in the fields above: the birth date is 1655 not 1685 and he was a Jesuit not a Capuchin (so "Mönch" and "Kappuziner" are both wrong). Thanks! --Epìdosis 15:54, 21 August 2024 (UTC)

Done GND revised. --Kolja21 (talk) 18:17, 21 August 2024 (UTC)

Jesuit monks

Gotthard Lihnie

Gotthard Lihnie (Q94578644) = https://d-nb.info/gnd/1033528463 Piarists are regular clerics, not monks; he was "Director der Normalschule zu Freudenthal" (BLKÖ) so a teacher occupation would be valid. --Epìdosis 07:57, 22 August 2024 (UTC)

Done +1. WBIS classification "Members of a Religious Order". Monk was a free interpretation. --Kolja21 (talk) 10:41, 22 August 2024 (UTC)

Donald L. Wallenfang

Donald L. Wallenfang (Q113730514) has two GNDs, one of them stating he is a monk, which is obviously impossible since he is member of a secular order. Thanks! --Epìdosis 11:26, 22 August 2024 (UTC)

Interim question: The German translation for the Secular Order of Discalced Carmelites (OCDS) is Unbeschuhte Karmeliten = Order of the Brothers Discalced of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mount Carmel (Q1135659) (OCD). A GND for OCDS is missing. "Säkularer Orden der Unbeschuhten Karmeliten" does not seem to be in use. Can you suggest a translation? --Kolja21 (talk) 11:51, 22 August 2024 (UTC)
Maybe Weltlicher Orden/Laienorden der Unbeschuhten Karmeliten (from https://www.teresianische-karmel-gemeinschaft.de/images/dokumente/konstitutionen.pdf). Epìdosis 12:00, 22 August 2024 (UTC)
Also in https://bistum-augsburg.de/Gottgeweihtes-Leben/Geistliche-Gemeinschaften/Kontakt: "Laienorden der Unbeschuhten Karmeliten". Epìdosis 12:02, 22 August 2024 (UTC)
"Laienorden der Unbeschuhten Karmeliten" seems to be the description. After reading the texts I guess the German lable of Q3076354 should be Teresianische Karmel-Gemeinschaft (TKG) mentioned in de:Dritter Orden. Or is there a difference between OCDS and TKG? --Kolja21 (talk) 12:11, 22 August 2024 (UTC)
I agree with the identification TKG = OCDS. Epìdosis 13:13, 22 August 2024 (UTC)
Done GND revised & duplicate reported. --Kolja21 (talk) 13:21, 22 August 2024 (UTC)

Franciscan monks

Franciscans are friars and not monks; here a list of Mönch to be removed:

(others coming probably tomorrow). Thanks! --Epìdosis 11:39, 22 August 2024 (UTC)

Augustinian monks

Augustinians (Augustinians (Q214528)) are friar (Q548320) and not monk (Q733786), since the Order has been created in 1244 as mendicant order (cf. https://gcatholic.org/orders/types.htm and https://www.agostiniani.it/storia-cultura/istituzione-dellordine/; the use of expressions like "Augustinian monk", "Augustinermönch" or "monaco agostiniano" is in fact widespread, but it is technically mistaken - probably induced by the fact that Augustinian friars follow the rule of St. Augustine, like the Benedictine monks follow the rule of St. Benedict); so again some GNDs should substitute "Mönch" with "Geistlich" (I don't see a GND for "Bruder"/"Ordernsbruder", which would be the most precise option)

Thanks as always, --Epìdosis 11:10, 22 August 2024 (UTC)

I can offer GND 4166472-3 (Laienbruder) = lay brother (Q135450): non-ordained male member of a Roman Catholic religious institute. This term is used by German libraries as a quasi-synonym for friar (Q548320). Would that be ok? --Kolja21 (talk) 14:49, 22 August 2024 (UTC)
I think this is good for members of secular orders (e.g. members of Third Order Regular of St. Francis of Penance (Q13612088)), but not for these persons, who were members of non-secular orders. In Wikidata correctly lay brother (Q135450)subclass of (P279)friar (Q548320), because in fact not all friars ("brothers") are lay brothers. Epìdosis 18:57, 22 August 2024 (UTC)
Well, then I will add "Ordensbruder", the most precise option like you said. The occupation does not have to be linked (it's optional). --Kolja21 (talk) 20:15, 22 August 2024 (UTC)

Valentin Stephan Still

Also Minims (Order of the Minims (Q1367736)) are friars and not monks, so Valentin Stephan Still (Q2508483) = https://d-nb.info/gnd/120652552 needs the usual fix. Thanks! --Epìdosis 11:47, 22 August 2024 (UTC)

Not done Sorry, same technical problem as above. I can't edit this file. --Kolja21 (talk) 17:02, 24 August 2024 (UTC)

Poor layout

Hi, while updating Riccardo Bocco (Q112537209) I noticed that in the GND entry there is a poor layout in Beruf(e): Politologe and Kulturanthropologe are combined on the same row. Not a real mistake, but just FYI. Alessandro Marchetti (WMCH) (talk) 14:53, 24 August 2024 (UTC)

Hi, it's the poor layout of the current DNB catalogue. A new version is in progress. If you check OGND you'll see that two occupations are marked as "characteristic" (charakteristisch). --Kolja21 (talk) 15:15, 24 August 2024 (UTC)

Alexander von Reitzenstein

Are we sure that Alexander von Reitzenstein (Q95763244): no description isn't Alexander von Reitzenstein (Q1524268): German art historian (1904-1986), right? Name and profession are perfectly compatible, the chronology (first born 1904, second fl. 1922) is not impossible. Thanks, --Epìdosis 18:42, 24 August 2024 (UTC)

18 years would be a bit young for the owner of an art studio in Berlin (another match). But since the only source is Kalliope I suspect they are identical. I've add said to be the same as (P460). --Kolja21 (talk) 19:00, 24 August 2024 (UTC)
PS: It's also possible that the letters have been signed "A. von Reitzenstein" and the archive made a guess or there is an other error. I would only merge the two items after someone has taken a look at the source. --Kolja21 (talk) 19:10, 24 August 2024 (UTC)

Ion Oprea

https://d-nb.info/gnd/1161422293 was enriched with information coming from the ro.wikipedia article about Ion N. Oprea (Q12730921): Romanian journalist (1932-) but it was a wrong choice, since ro.wikipedia is about "Ion N. Oprea" whilst the GND is about "Ion M. Oprea", for which I have now created Ion M. Oprea (Q129860036): Romanian historian; https://books.google.it/books?id=Ng7wAAAAMAAJ (1982) at p. 418 describes him as "chercheur scientifique principal à l'Institut d'histoire «Nicolae Iorga», Bucarest"; https://books.google.it/books?id=v_MnAQAAMAAJ (1967) at p. 794 describes him as "doctor în istorie, cercetător principal la Institutul de studii istorice şi social-politice de pe lîngă C. C. al P. C. R.". The mistake of GND has already spread to LC and J9U (@Geagea:: http://olduli.nli.org.il/F/?func=find-b&local_base=NLX10&find_code=UID&request=987007274076105171 should edit "Journalists" into "Historians" and remove the birth date 1932). Thanks! --Epìdosis 21:07, 26 August 2024 (UTC)

Done No idea who enriched the wrong information since GND 1161422293 (DE-12) is only connected with books of the historian. I've corrected the error and will create a new GND for the journalist. Thanks for letting me know. Kolja21 (talk) 21:51, 26 August 2024 (UTC)

Ante Starčević

https://gateway-bayern.de/BV023313326 is an evident misuse of https://d-nb.info/gnd/119559013: the book is clearly not about the famous Ante Starčević (Q571619): Croatian politician, writer and "Father of Croatian homeland" (1823-1896), but about Ante Starčević (Q12627028): Croatian sculptor, painter, mosaic maker, writer (1933-2007), who has presently no GND. Thanks! --Epìdosis 09:37, 27 August 2024 (UTC)

Done I've created GND 1340318822 for the sculptor. --Kolja21 (talk) 11:56, 27 August 2024 (UTC)

Gerardus de Bononia

GND 1089716087 (CH-BaUGNV‏) = created by a Swiss Library. You'll find the literature in Swisscovery:
So it's a duplicate for Gerard of Bologna (Q5550211): Italian theologian and saint. Correct? --Kolja21 (talk) 14:29, 27 August 2024 (UTC)
Exactly correct; I thought it was a duplicate of this one but I wasn't able to prove it. Epìdosis 16:41, 27 August 2024 (UTC)

Salvatore Nicolosi

Hi! I have just finished cleaning as much as possible the greatly problematic group of homonyms Salvatore Nicolosi in SBN (visible I think next Monday) and Wikidata; the attributions of work were very much confuse in SBN, and are similarly confuse abroad. The main problem is that abroad many many works of philosophy and Church history have been wrongly attributed to Salvatore Nicolosi (Q124464): Italian Roman-Catholic bishop (1922-2014), who in fact wrote only very very few works on clearly Christian themes (the ones that you see presently attributed to him in SBN), present only in Italian libraries, and nothing of philosophy and Church history; all the works of philosophy and Church history belong in fact to the much less known and contemporary, and likewise priest (!), Salvatore Nicolosi (Q130005400): Italian priest and philosophy historian (1923-2012).

So e.g. looking thorugh https://prometheus.lmu.de/gnd/1060418894 to the works attributed to the first one in K10PLUS (presently 40 ones), they are all by the second, with just 3 exceptions: the 3 books published in Catania by the publisher Tringale (L'aldilà, Sicilia contro Italia, L'imperio del mitra - to be fixed, "impero" not "imperio") are by an important journalist (Salvatore Nicolosi (Q130009729): Italian journalist and writer. https://gateway-bayern.de/BV008824865 is also by the second. In Ixtheo all publications by the second.

If you have any doubt on attributions you can ask me; anyway you can use SBN once my fixes will be visible. Thanks in advance! --Epìdosis 18:26, 28 August 2024 (UTC)

I've started with GND 1340437015 for the philosophy historian and will wait till I can use the data from SBN/ICCU. --Kolja21 (talk) 19:01, 28 August 2024 (UTC)
Done All together three new GNDs created. --Kolja21 (talk) 19:27, 3 September 2024 (UTC)

Valente

Hi! https://swb.boss.bsz-bw.de/Record/(DE-627)1856150259?sid=15417080 is a clear misuse of https://d-nb.info/gnd/1116641305: the article was published in 1930 when Gaetano Valente (Q3757147): Italian priest and historian (1919-2013) was 11 years old; in fact I saw the table of contents of the issue containing the article through Google Books and the article is by G. B. Valente, who is clearly Giambattista Valente (Q98907206): Italian trade unionist, journalist and sociologist (1872-1944). Thanks! --Epìdosis 16:37, 30 August 2024 (UTC)

Done I've created GND 1340650428 (Gaetano Valente) and GND 1340650444 (Giambattista Valente) for the namesakes. Do you have contact to Tübingen (IxTheo)? I remember that they fix errors quickly. --Kolja21 (talk) 18:33, 30 August 2024 (UTC)
Great. @Bargioni: let's try: we should report to Ixtheo that https://ixtheo.de/Record/1856150259?sid=117800530 needs to be reattributed to https://d-nb.info/gnd/1340650444 (who was wrongly confused with https://d-nb.info/gnd/1116641305). Epìdosis 07:28, 31 August 2024 (UTC)

Dino Gentili

https://gateway-bayern.de/BV039956254 (2010) is an evident misuse of https://d-nb.info/gnd/119287153 = Dino Gentili (Q55228097): Italian politician and publisher (1901-1984), died 1984; it should be Dino Gentili (Q130215502): Italian screenwriter and director. Thanks! --Epìdosis 17:42, 1 September 2024 (UTC)

  Done I've created GND 1340722178. --Kolja21 (talk) 00:05, 2 September 2024 (UTC)

Valentina Moscon

http://cbsopac.rz.uni-frankfurt.de/DB=2.1/PPNSET?PPN=46086145X is obviously not by a jurist, so it is a misuse of https://d-nb.info/gnd/1143843983 = Valentina Moscon (Q106437246): Italian jurist; it should be Valentina Moscon (Q61957970): Italian illustrator (1991-) instead. Thanks! --Epìdosis 19:59, 3 September 2024 (UTC)

Done Good to know. I've created GND 1340884321. --Kolja21 (talk) 20:47, 3 September 2024 (UTC)

Giuseppe Picotti

http://cbsopac.rz.uni-frankfurt.de/DB=2.1/PPNSET?PPN=100720196 (same issue also in HBZ) is a clear misuse of https://d-nb.info/gnd/1037561988 - the author is Giuseppe Picotti (Q130218407): Italian pharmacist and local historian (my edited SBN will be visible today or tomorrow I guess). Thanks, --Epìdosis 09:24, 2 September 2024 (UTC)

I'll wait for SBN/ICCU. --Kolja21 (talk) 15:45, 2 September 2024 (UTC)
Hi @Epìdosis: Still no biographical info at SBN/ICCU. --Kolja21 (talk) 15:55, 8 September 2024 (UTC)

Bazzano

A little question about a place: https://d-nb.info/gnd/4298136-0 is not very clear, in Italy at least 3 places are named Bazzano but I cannot understand which of these is represented here, although the most probable option is Bazzano (Q94548): settlement in the Italian municipality of Valsamoggia. Can you help me? Thanks! --Epìdosis 07:41, 6 September 2024 (UTC)

GND 4298136-0 was created by DE-12 (BSB München) and is used for:
As long as the data set is not supplemented I would use it for "the most probable option". @Wurgl: You're the expert for geographical place names. What do you think? --Kolja21 (talk) 19:51, 6 September 2024 (UTC)
Looking at the titles it seems to be used for all the 3 Bazzano I had in mind:
Problematic :( Epìdosis 20:55, 6 September 2024 (UTC)
I would say Bazzano (Q94548): settlement in the Italian municipality of Valsamoggia too. Looking at OGND and then click on "untergeordnete GND-Sätze" (subordinate Data sets) I see three museum and all three are in that area. --Wurgl (talk) 21:04, 6 September 2024 (UTC)
Thanks for your feedback. @Epìdosis: There are more problematic cases like that. One day GND 4298136-0 will be supplemented but we can't force it. (We can only correct persons and corporate bodies.) --Kolja21 (talk) 21:41, 6 September 2024 (UTC)

Adolf Čejchan

https://d-nb.info/gnd/126253358 = Adolf Čejchan (Q95152272): Czech photographer (1930-2023) per Ústí nad Labem mladýma očima which is a photobook; however, BVB connects to it both the photobook (https://gateway-bayern.de/BV048468286) and two entomology works (https://gateway-bayern.de/BV019244247 + https://gateway-bayern.de/BV013765828) which are clearly by the homonym Adolf Čejchan (Q95182895): Czech entomologist (1930-). Thanks! --Epìdosis 14:10, 10 September 2024 (UTC)

Silvia Haia Antonucci

Silvia Haia Antonucci (Q113793036): Italian archivist and historian (1969-) was born in 1969; https://d-nb.info/gnd/141043318 says 1943 clearly misinterpreting LoC. Thanks! --Epìdosis 14:42, 13 September 2024 (UTC)

Karl / Georg Heinrich von Berenhorst

Hello,
https://d-nb.info/gnd/116129107 is about a Karl von Berenhorst born in 1845.
http://data.deutsche-biographie.de/Person/sfz49046 is about a Georg Heinrich von Berenhorst born in 1733.
Yet, they are said to be the same (see <rdfs:seeAlso rdf:resource="http://d-nb.info/gnd/116129107"/>).
The correct gnd id is 118509292.
Can you help fix this ? Thank you Melderick (talk) 14:42, 16 September 2024 (UTC)

DNB request

Hi Kolja21, Barbara Fischer, formally from WMDE but for the last 7 years at DNB, recently reached out to me. They would like to understand how they can better support the inclusion of the GND in wikidata. Giovanni Donna d'Oldenico

https://d-nb.info/gnd/121420385X cites BNI as source for "Wirkungsdaten: 1956-2006" but these dates are surely wrong (either BNI was wrong, or - more probably - BNI is used for the OPAC SBN, which contained a conflation I have solved today): there are two distinct persons, Giovanni Donna d'Oldenico (Q130305519): Italian historian (1908-1982) and Giovanni Donna d'Oldenico (Q130305520): Italian physician and writer (1959-); the bibliographic records I see through https://prometheus.lmu.de/gnd/121420385X are of the first one, the second only wrote literary works and they seem to be absent in Germany Austria Switzerland (at least using KVK I don't find them). My edits in SBN will be visible on Tuesday as usual (probably next week). Thanks as always, --Epìdosis 08:26, 16 September 2024 (UTC)

Done "Wirkungsdaten: 1956-2006" will be removed and I've created GND 1344010822 for the physician and writer (1959-). Thanks for your edits in SBN/ICCU. --Kolja21 (talk) 15:37, 4 October 2024 (UTC)

Matteo Napoli

In https://opac.k10plus.de/DB=2.299/PPNSET?PPN=1442155116&PRS=HOL&INDEXSET=21 "Napolitano, Matteo Luigi" https://d-nb.info/gnd/140746145 is an obvious mistake for "Napoli, Matteo" https://d-nb.info/gnd/1114926558. Thanks! --Epìdosis 10:31, 16 September 2024 (UTC)

Yes, that's true, but the GNDs are correct and I can't do anything about the misuse. --Kolja21 (talk) 20:05, 8 October 2024 (UTC)

Pietro De Angelis

I have spent the last hour cleaning these homonyms in SBN. I have noticed that all the bibliographic records that are presently attributed to https://d-nb.info/gnd/1033814474 (= Pietro De Angelis (Q126265269): Italian priest and missionary (1916-1992)) according to Prometheus are surely to be attributed to https://d-nb.info/gnd/1117734900 (= Pietro De Angelis (Q98917300): Italian librarian (1885-1968)). Thanks! --Epìdosis 07:59, 18 September 2024 (UTC)

I can't do anything about the misuse but I've found an other name sake Pietro de Angelis (Q130469238): librettist. --Kolja21 (talk) 21:17, 8 October 2024 (UTC)

George Margoliouth

https://d-nb.info/gnd/116770570 has a death date 1952 that seems plainly wrong, should be 1924 (cf. George Margoliouth (Q48689010)). Thanks as always, --Epìdosis 08:10, 5 October 2024 (UTC)

Good to know. 1952 is quoted from Neue Deutsche Biographie, vol. 19 and is used by Index Theologicus and Kallías. I have documented the error accordingly and marked the second IxTheo authority ID as undifferentiated identifier value. --Kolja21 (talk) 15:08, 5 October 2024 (UTC)

Hi! https://gateway-bayern.de/BV038059198 and https://swb.boss.bsz-bw.de/Record/(DE-627)1900454645?sid=15594602 should be reattributed from 136894216 to 1016565496; https://gateway-bayern.de/BV037743317 (as well as Das Land der Etrusker in OEBV) should be reattributed from 117648019 to 1016565496. To increase order, Giovanni Caselli (Q130369140): Italian jurist (1938-2003) could deserve a GND. Thanks! --Epìdosis 17:50, 26 September 2024 (UTC)

I've created GND 1343311608 for the jurist. --Kolja21 (talk) 20:59, 9 October 2024 (UTC)

Monica Quirico

https://d-nb.info/gnd/1054926972 = Monica Quirico (Q113820545): Italian theologian (1960-) is clearly misused in https://opac.k10plus.de/DB=2.299/PPNSET?PPN=1759911798&PRS=HOL&INDEXSET=21, which is by Monica Quirico (Q130376578): Italian contemporary historian. I've created GND 1343456711 for the historian. --Kolja21 (talk) 07:58, 13 October 2024 (UTC)

Elisabetta Gnignera

Multiple online sources (CVs and newspapers) converge on birth date 1973 for Elisabetta Gnignera (Q113781375): no description; GND https://d-nb.info/gnd/142108499 has 1976 and LC as source, but LC https://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no2010133469.html has no dates; probably the mistake 1976 has spread from GND to other authority files. Noticed by @Bargioni:. Thanks as always! --Epìdosis 15:26, 7 October 2024 (UTC)
