Hoax entry

Hello, Wikidata,

I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to report this but entry Q125030457 is a complete hoax and the primary editors working on this page (User:Mara Lafontan and User:Elanor Glynn and you might check User:46.72.149.200, too) were blocked on the English Wikipedia for vandalism and sockpuppetry. Once you look over this entry, you can tell that is is completely made up. I'm an administrator on the English Wikipedia and haven't come across vandals and hoaxers who spent so much of their time on Wikidata but because of their efforts here, notices of an article for "Princess Mara Lafontan" have shown up on a lot of data lists and reports for a variety of WikiProjects on the English Wikipedia. Can you investigate and, hopefully, delete this entry and block these two editors? It looks like all articles connected to this entry have already been deleted on Wikipedia projects. It looks like Q57415344 and Q125336097 and are also hoaxes, including making a music celebrity into a "prince" and I think they might have done vandalism on other entries like Q1395624 and Q2970639 so you might consider reverting all of their edits here. A tell tale sign is when they identify living people as vampires. Ordinarily, I'd roll them back or revert to an earlier edit in the page history but I can't figure out how to do that here. The /32 was globally blocked 25. January 2024. It's a highly dynamic T-Mobile range, so it's all or nothing basically. Abuse going back to December maybe even earlier. Creation of non-notable items and various shenanigans. I propose blocking the /32 leaving account creation enabled for a year, with a message telling people they must register to edit. Since this guy added junk articles on romani wiki, global block is also an option. Do you think the proposed action is appropriate or do you suggest something else? Sitenotice to advertise the Wikidata Leveling Up Days from April 4th to 14th

Hello all,

The Wikidata Leveling Up Days are coming up (from April 5th to 14th) and as we're trying to attract "casual readers" who end up on a Wikidata page but need information about how to edit and how to join the community, I was thinking we could display a banner on Wikidata for a few days.

It is recurrent cross-wiki vandalism (I have blocked them here before, and have reverted them in eswiki and cawiki) but the offender shows up maybe once a month or so. They don't keep to the same IP range (so a range block would be ineffective); what I've done is watchlist their most frequent targets, and I also do a global search every now and then to see if I've missed anything. –FlyingAce^✈hello 21:25, 5 April 2024 (UTC)

@Infrastruktur: Note that it is an international NGO, founded and headquartered in Pakistan. He is replacing the general link .org of the Pakistani NGO with a url for a US organization ([2], [3]). en:User:SirCharles, suggested there is something wrong since he couldn't match the url in the international webpage ([4]) although I think it may be just an alternate url for the regional office in USA. The .com domain still concerns me, so it may be an scam as you say.

The problem is that after being blocked in en:, the user seems to be trying to do take advantage of Wikidata. By putting the US regional organization as the official webpage for the whole international NGO, he is positioning it in the infoboxes in multiple Wikipedias and circumventing his block in Wikipedia. There is no reason to put a regional subsidiary as a the sole and global url, let alone to displace more general official urls. If somebody is using Wikipedia in Urdu, why should the infoboxes (or the associated snippet Google extracts) direct the reader to a US page instead of the better link for Pakistan? Why should we presume a reader in Spanish or English is from the US? Or even from a reader in the US, why should we remove the general page for the NGO in order to only show a specific subsidiary rather than the Pakistani-based organization that is described in the article? He can't do that it directly in Wikipedia after getting blocked, but by adding it to Wikidata he is de facto putting his url into the infoboxes he wanted. --FAR (talk) 20:58, 7 April 2024 (UTC)

Some of the policies on Wikipedia doesn't exist on Wikidata, such as user name policy and conflict of interest policy. But we do have a disclosure of paid editing policy. Wikidata's blocking policy states "Users or IP addresses should not be blocked solely for behaviour or actions on other projects. As an exception to this, if an account with a history of cross-wiki or single project abuse shows signs of continuing that pattern on Wikidata, they may be blocked here without a pattern of local abuse." The problem is what he was blocked for on the other wikis is not something you get blocked for on Wikidata. I'm not sure I have a good enough excuse to block them permanently... yet. But if another admin feels comfortable issuing a permanent block I certainly would not mind that at all. I did run some checks on the domains. The old domains used the same webhost for all its subsidiaries but the new domain used a different one. And I could find no links from the old domain to the new domain either so yeah, it looks sus. Adding a sitelink with "intentional sitelink to redirect"

The en:Monasteries of San Millán de la Cogolla (Q2284354) are a set of adjacent twin monasteries, the es:Monasterio de Suso (Q2572709) and the es:Monasterio de Yuso (Q1775925). On English Wikipedia, there is just a single Wikipedia page for the two monasteries together, as linked, with redirect pages at en:San Millán de Suso and en:San Millán de Yuso to that page, whereas for a number of other Wikipedias (Spanish, Basque, Catalan, German, and others), there are independent articles for each individual monastery, plus the ensemble of the two monasteries together, for a total of (up to) three articles. I am trying to sitelink the English Wikipedia redirect pages to the appropriate Wikidata item, so that, for example, when viewing the Spanish Wikipedia page es:Monasterio de Suso (Q2572709), the "Other languages" functionality works properly to connect it to the English Wikipedia redirect page en:San Millán de Suso, and by proxy to en:Monasteries of San Millán de la Cogolla, and likewise for en:San Millán de Yuso with Q1775925 (the Wikidata item for the joint monasteries, Q2284354, works fine, as best as I can tell, and shouldn't need further editing). However, apparently I cannot add a sitelink with a badge, because it gives me the error Warning: You are trying to add/remove badges to this item. At local Wikipedias adding or removing badges are done by consensus. Saving this edit was blocked and should be done only by administrators or trusted users. If you think you are correct, please contact an administrator. What is the appropriate thing to do here? Can an administrator help me out? Ideally I'd like things to "just work" should, in the future, English Wikipedia decide that the redirect pages should be developed into their own pages.

@Ajraddatz I'm afraid that doesn't work; because the enwiki pages are redirects, when you go to add a sitelink, it automatically replaces it with the redirect target, which fails because the redirect targets already have Wikidata items associated with them. Based on their series of vandalism/misinformation edits on Wikidata and history of uploading hoax logos for children's television stations on Commons, is very likely blocked WD user IshaTaylor ( talk · contribs · logs ) and blocked JaheimHines (talk • contribs • logs). Also has edited as Ishakat55 ( talk · contribs · logs ) on Commons and Wikidata. There are also occasional anon IP edits from them as well. I’ve just moved the sitelink de:Kirin Beer from Kirin Holdings (Q13403399) to Kirin Brewery Company, Limited (Q1310990). There was a previous report at Wikidata:Administrators' noticeboard/Archive/2024/04#Report concerning User:El Gaafary - vandalizing living person info that was archived before another admin took a look. This user has been unresponsive for a long time despite repeated concerns raised on their talk page; they were notified of the prior report but did not respond and have continued to edit. I'm not imposing the block myself since I am one of the users that they have been unresponsive to (though only in my capacity as an oversighter and admin so I'm not really "involved").

Tag creation request

In the past I have requested creation of specific tags for each OpenRefine minor version: openrefine-3.4, openrefine-3.5 and so on. It's probably not so useful to have such a granularity so I would request the creation of the (hopefully last) tag: openrefine, which would be used by all future OpenRefine versions (>= 3.9). Bottedits without Botflag

Bot edits have been flooding the recent edits for a long time. the bot edits come from a few users and they don't have a bot flag and make up to 4 edits a second, so we don't have an overview of the recent edits anymore and there are often error messages from Mediawiki. i suspect this is due to the simultaneous edits. The edits are made by running several jobs simultaneously with the QuickStatements tool. I think we should stop this.Editing in this rhythm has too many negative effects on other users. Users, including those with a bot flag, are ratelimited to 90 edits per minute, and it is widely accepted to run at that pace without a bot flag when using batch editing tools such as QuickStatements. The exception are admins who are not ratelimited, and who should be more careful with these tools (e.g. use the admin account for small batches only, and use a non-admin flooder account otherwise). Apart from that, this is a wiki with largely automated editing in large numbers, clearly beyond what is possible to monitor with the classical recent changes tracking tools. —MisterSynergy (talk) 15:47, 18 April 2024 (UTC)

@MisterSynergyYes wikidata is automated a lot. The problem is that there are hundreds of thousands of edits from 2 users and they are made for more than 24 hours. But it makes a difference whether you make 1000 or 500000 contributions. yesterday I had several times the message timeout in the last changes. Well you did nothing wrong here; you just happened to be active when User:WikiBayer was overwhelmed by the amount of edits in the recent changes stream. Lots of editors use batch editing tools such as QuickStatements for large batches, and you are correct to assume that it is properly ratelimited (actually not the tool, but your account is ratelimited just as every other account).

However, you can ask the bureaucrats for the "flooder" flag if you temporarily make a lot of edits. This would help patrollers to hide your edits more easily. Many users do not use this flag, however, and the entire process with user rights is a bit inefficient. ---MisterSynergy (talk) 13:29, 19 April 2024 (UTC)

@Estopedist1 I don't really know. User:Riad Salih posted this on Commons' AN/V (I presume by accident), and I moved it over. On the two pages Riad mentioned, the IP apparently attempted to swap the two items' sitelinks with each other (so I reverted); Riad appears to believe that this is vandalism (I know nothing about the topics, so don't know if it's vandalism). Riad and the IP also seem to be edit warring on Q112119030 and Q12191312, although it might be permissible if the edits really are vandalism. —‍Mdaniels5757 (talk • contribs) 15:31, 21 April 2024 (UTC)

@Mdaniels5757 @Estopedist1 I wasn't on an edit warning, but the IP was attempting to change the interlinks of certain articles, merge Wikidata items and articles, all without anyone noticing. It was pure vandalism as they were altering everything to Morocco. I wanted to prevent their vandalism before they caused any significant damage while active editors were sleeping. If you observe closely, you'll notice they were making quick edits, and I was restoring them because they were rushing to merge multiple items.

For example, take Q3514113, which represents Tunisian Tajin. They added the country of origin as Morocco, even though it should be Tunisia.

The massive vandalism [8] (clearly first as IP, than as account) includes the mentioned nazi-chants, which are nothing to "play with" (which is well known in germany), because it refers to thousands of dead people, and no one, especially germans, wants to read this in a artice description which is shown to the many mobile users in a high frequented article. tl;dr: Thats not "normal" destructive vandalism.
