Here is the CA of her, you can check it at any time if you don’t trust me.

This user is currently blocked. The latest block log entry is provided below for reference:

I know you may don’t believe what I said, but the fact is she was blocked by eng wikipedia administrator JBW indefinitely
You can check its central auth info by yourself if you doubt it.

I don't see any reason for blocking. As far as CA shows, she is only blocked on enwiki (with 2 edits there, which IMHO show nothing incriminating). No other blocks are in place. On jawiki she's a sysop. Jonathan Groß (talk) 16:09, 2 November 2023 (UTC)
She is ja Sysop doesn’t means she can break the rules!!!!!
You can’t see the vandalism log because JBW delete and hide them, En Wikipedia admin block ja sysop means she vandalized too heavily so that we needed to block. How can you give me a reason to not block her? @Jonathan Groß 反對日文維基濫用傀儡的人 (talk) 16:15, 2 November 2023 (UTC)
You obviously know some things I don't. Can you give any evidence? I'm not an admin on enwiki so I can't look at deleted edits. Jonathan Groß (talk) 16:18, 2 November 2023 (UTC)
Ok, She allows socks controled by another real person to post offensive messages about other users and politicians such as 岸田文雄 on her talk page. Here is an example

https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:%E6%9F%8F%E5%B0%BE%E8%8F%93%E5%AD%90&diff=prev&oldid=1183123232

She also create bad draft, JBW blocked her afterwards. but logs for draft has been removed by English Wikipedia admin JBW.
I have captured them in one photo and I can send it to your email if you want to see it because we can’t upload photos here, or you can ask JBW for more details.
All in all, it’s cross-wiki abuse and we need block!
English Wikipedia admin block ja sysop can prove she vandalized a lot because it’s unusual to block admins. So I hope you can understand it @Jonathan Groß 反對日文維基濫用傀儡的人 (talk) 16:32, 2 November 2023 (UTC)

Could any German administrator review the changes on the historical Deutsche Bank item? Frequent label and alias changes by IPs, maybe a new item is desirable. Danke. Madamebiblio (talk) 19:30, 1 November 2023 (UTC)

@Madamebiblio Fixed according to WP sitelinks. Note however that this was not an administrative measure since there is no apparent vandalism. --Emu (talk) 08:40, 2 November 2023 (UTC)

part 2

Could another admin have a look here? I aligned the labels to Wikipedia, the IP is unwilling or unable to provide a reason for their changes and reverted my changes. It seems to be pointless to start a discussion since the IP is changing and discussions on item talk pages end to get overlooked by both inexperienced users and vandals. Maybe a short semi-protection? --Emu (talk) 19:32, 2 November 2023 (UTC)

i do not want to end up in an edit war with a bot. if a bot is repeating a reverted edit, yes i will show up to request the bot to be stoped. a bot should not performing a reverted edit again. first i showed up on your discus to let you know about the issue. i do not expect a immediate reply, but i expect that a bot is not overruling a human. so after the bot did the same erroneous edit again i reached out to stop the bot from entering trash into wikidata. thanks Wetterwolke (talk) 00:51, 8 November 2023 (UTC)
Not done The edits doesn't seem to be of such a nature that the bot needs to be blocked, so this doesn't need administrator intervention. It seems to be a simple case of garbage in, garbage out. I note that the bot was given blanket approval, which is a practice that I find unfortunate as it prevents useful and perhaps necessary input on new bot jobs. Of course there are several other bots that have blanket approvals as well. Infrastruktur (talk) 12:27, 8 November 2023 (UTC)

Hi, sorry if this is the wrong venue or not the correct form, but this is my first time on this noticeboard. I noticed this editor on enWP and followed them here. Perhaps somebody can have a look at their contributions: they have created entries for their whole family, almost completely unsourced. In addition, nothing in these entries points to any notability in any language WP that I know.

If this is the wrong forum, or this is acceptable behavior, please feel free to delete this notice and leave me a message on my talk page to tell what I did wrong :-) Thanks! Randykitty (talk) 13:24, 3 November 2023 (UTC)

@Randykitty   Moved to Wikidata:Requests_for_deletions#Bulk_deletion_request:_family_of_Maxim_Alexandrowitsch_Lasarew as this is essentially a question of notability. --Emu (talk) 18:01, 3 November 2023 (UTC)

Link Q289651 to new scientific name

Hello, Q289651 (species of trees) is currently linked to Wikispecies page Caesalpinia spinosa, while the new name is Tara spinosa. Please link Q289651 to the Wikispecies page Tara spinosa. In Wikispecies, Caesalpinia spinosa redirects to Tara spinosa and both pages are marked for merging, but the fact that both pages still exist with different names blocks the merge of Q289651 with Q21315230 (Tara spinosa). Request for new revision tags by ContentTranslation tool

The Language team would like to request the creation of tag 'sectiontranslation' as referenced in T335256. A volunteer requested adding change_tags to Wikidata edits made by the Mediawiki Extension:ContentTranslation tool. Support for the ['contenttranslation' & 'contenttranslation-v2'] tags for ContentTranslation have already been added.

The goal of adding these change_tags to Wikidata edits is to allow querying the language links additions afterwards on ToolForge which is currently impossible as one would need to query them from revision_comment using text-search, which turns out to be slow. For these tags to appear against Wikidata items, however, they need to be registered on Wikidata through an admin as ContentTranslation Extension is not installed on Wikidata. Appeal on Item Q121914023

Hello.

I want to appeal on Item Q121914023 which was deleted by @Lymantria. The user that created the item didn't take precautions and the item was deleted because notability and i have provided some source for it but the deleting admin refused to undelete it. I want to seek other admin's opinions and appeal for undeletion of the item. and i will abide by WD policies in future

Daremize (talk) 11:44, 6 November 2023 (UTC)

Related discussion on Q121914023 is at User_talk:Lymantria#Item_Q121914023.
I have a quick question for OP: Do you know why the original item had imported from Wikimedia project (P143) English Wikipedia (Q328) as a qualifier on many claims? Bovlb (talk) 23:59, 6 November 2023 (UTC)
i have no idea Daremize (talk) 01:54, 7 November 2023 (UTC)
Thanks. I ask because we see it a lot, but I have never worked out where it comes from. It's as if someone somewhere is telling people to do this. I wish we could track them down and tell them to stop. Bovlb (talk) 04:45, 7 November 2023 (UTC)
I had a look at both the deleted item and the three additional sources presented at User talk:Lymantria#Item_Q121914023. I don’t see any indication that WD:N is met. Therefore, deleting the item wasn’t out of policy based on the information at hand. --Emu (talk) 08:51, 7 November 2023 (UTC)
Yes, I know and understand the fact that the item deletion wasn't out of policy.
The point of bringing it to the noticeboard is to consider undeletion of the item with the fact that i am trying to improve the item to meet WD;N which i provided some source (although seems not reliable) Daremize (talk) 10:54, 8 November 2023 (UTC)
If the deletion wasn’t out of policy and the facts haven’t changed since deletion, there is really no reason to restore the item. You can however provide sources that comply with WD:N and your request to restore the item can be evaluated again. --Emu (talk) 12:51, 8 November 2023 (UTC)
I find out more source and i hope they will be the one or two can undelete the item

You are the one vandalizing by denying the facts. There is consensus among scholars and human rights organizations that Israel is an apartheid state. And Netanyahu has murdered more children during the past few weeks than anybody else has done for several years, so who if any is more deserving of the term child murderer? Te og kaker (talk) 00:18, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
You might not like that the truth is told, but it is still the truth whether you want it or not! You should be ashamed for your support of the genocide against defenceless Palestinian babies! Te og kaker (talk) 00:20, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
Looking at this account contributions at en.WP, it's clear that they have a strong political bias, and have been reverted several times there too. They don't seem to understand how neutral point of view works. Kacamata (talk) 00:24, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
The political bias is on your side. If there is consensus among respected human rights organizations and scholars, that should weigh higher than your desire to silence the facts about what's happening in Palestine! --Te og kaker (talk) 00:32, 14 November 2023 (UTC)

Please some help here @Bovlb, Lymantria:--Trade (talk) 01:53, 14 November 2023 (UTC)

To both editors: please stop engaging in disruptive POV editing. If you have concerns with the status quo of any Israeli-Palestine conflict pages, please suggest edits on the talk page - or better yet, take a step back and let calmer heads prevail. -- Ajraddatz (talk) 04:14, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
@Ajraddatz Excuse me. Both? Did you check this account edits and my edits before saying it? They are pushing their POV, and I was trying to undo vandalism and preserve status quo. Your comments are extreme discouraging. Also, did you check this account user page? It states clearly: "I don't understand a shit about how Wikidata works and how to edit it, and I am against Wikidata as a whole as it only creates a mess in infoboxes on nowiki and dawiki and prevents anyone but experienced data programmers to edit infoboxes". Yet, you called my edits "disruptive POV editing" Kacamata (talk) 14:29, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
Yes, I looked at those things. You're right that this should have been exclusively directed towards Te og kaker - and he will be blocked if he continues editing in that manner. Thanks for your work reverting those pages to the status quo. -- Ajraddatz (talk) 15:15, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
@Trade Thanks for the ping. It looks like things are resolved for now, but I have welcomed Te og kaker and given them a few constructive tips. I note that I am the first to post on their talk page, which I always find a sad thing to see in such cases. Bovlb (talk) 18:03, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
Hmm. "Such cases". While I admire your efforts to reminding administrators that edits are often done as a result of ignorance, that does not seem to be the case here. The individual could have asked for guidance in entering their point of view but chose not to.
Wikidata does not have to concern itself with "the truth"(tm), just that claims have reliable sources, and I'm happy with that. Infrastruktur (talk) 20:25, 16 November 2023 (UTC) Infrastruktur (talk) 20:25, 16 November 2023 (UTC)

Sitenotice to advertise the Wikidata Modelling Days, November 23-December 2

Hello dear Wikidata admins!

We would like to run a short sitenotice campaign on Wikidata to inform casual editors and readers about the online event Data Modelling Days 2023, in order to expand the participation to people who are using and editing Wikidata but not necessarily following closely its communications channels.

We would like to run it starting on Friday, November 24th, until the end of the event, December 2nd at 19:00 UTC, with a very simply formatted sentence: "Are you using or editing Wikidata, but sometimes struggling with how data is organized? Join us at the online Data Modelling Days, from November 30th to December 2nd, to discuss with the Wikidata community about your data modelling challenges!"

Since the banner would be displayed on Wikidata only, monolingual, with simple content and no particular criteria to display the banner, we were thinking that we could use MediaWiki:Sitenotice. If so, what is the best way to request its use? Or would you rather have us request a CentralNotice slot instead?

Let me know what is the best way to move forward with this! Best, Lea Lacroix (WMDE) (talk) 05:46, 15 November 2023 (UTC)

Would it be possible to translate it into a few common languages at least before it goes up? I need to get stuff translated for work and I know it's a pain, but some volunteers here can probably help (and tools like ChatGPT give very excellent first drafts these days). Other than that, I don't think we have an established process for using the sitenotice. For something like this, a note that you plan on using it here is probably sufficient. -- Ajraddatz (talk) 06:36, 15 November 2023 (UTC)
Yes, I can of course provide translations (although the event itself unfortunately will be fully in English). Does local Sitenotice support translations? Should I simply prepare it using the translate extension? Lea Lacroix (WMDE) (talk) 09:39, 16 November 2023 (UTC)
Hmm, that's a good question - I thought it was possible to have content in the sitenotice that varied based on the editor's interface language, but it's been so long since I've done that that I'm not sure how / if that works. If the event is just in English it should be fine to just run the sitenotice in English, especially since I don't have a clear answer. -- Ajraddatz (talk) 18:37, 16 November 2023 (UTC)
I added it in English. BrokenSegue (talk) 17:28, 22 November 2023 (UTC)

Several editors from Chinese Wikipedia have raised concerns about the possibility that this user's edits are machine-generated translations. These concerns are based on three specific edits: Special:Diff/1589085721, Special:Diff/1403906588, and Special:Diff/2014697557. It would be beneficial for this user to address these concerns and clarify any misunderstandings. Supergrey1 (talk) 04:23, 21 November 2023 (UTC)

@S8321414, Stang, Minorax: as Chinese speaking admins. --Lymantria (talk) 08:53, 21 November 2023 (UTC)
For these three edits (and maybe other edits of this account), it is very likely machine translation. By the way, according to block log on Chinese Wikipedia, this account is sock puppet of We03311795.--S8321414 (talk) 12:08, 21 November 2023 (UTC)
The user has previously confirmed the usage of Google Translate for naming localizations, as seen on the user's talk page (Special:Diff/1766712145). If this user is indeed a native Traditional Chinese speaker, as stated on their user page, then the subsequent edits made using machine translation should be considered vandalism rather than mere mistakes. This is particularly evident in the cases of Special:Diff/1589085721 (v.s. Special:Diff/1589085718) and Special:Diff/1403906588 (v.s. Special:Diff/1403906583). In these instances, the user can properly translate "zh-hant" but fails to correctly translate "zh" with totally different machine translation versions. In Chinese Wikimedia projects, where variants of Chinese can be automatically converted by the system, "zh-hant" (Traditional Chinese) is a subset of "zh" (the basis for all Chinese variants). Therefore, when both "zh" and "zh-hant" contents are available, any vandalism in "zh" contents would not impact "zh-hant" contents. This situation could be likened to someone vandalizing "en-US" content while keeping "en-UK" intact, further suggesting that this user might be attempting to promote Traditional Chinese over other Chinese variants. However, these observations currently remain as doubts and not definitive conclusions. It would be beneficial for this user to address these concerns and dispel any doubts. Unprotect Wikidata talk:Main Page

This talk page has been protected six years ago due to vandalism, but it makes it hard for newcomers like me to discuss about the Q123456789, which was deleted repeatedly, and is appearing on the Main Page. ToadetteEdit (talk) 08:54, 21 November 2023 (UTC)

Hi. Maybe. Talk pages ought to be available to all. Having a look at the page history indicates it has been regularly vandalized, perhaps more often because it is the talk page for the main page, but it is less visible than the project chat which is open to all. One reason why it might make sense to semi-protect it, is that newcomers might think that page is suitable for general discussions, which it is not. For this page in particular, all things considered the permanent semi-protection probably makes sense. And you're only five edits away from being able to write whatever on it anyways. Incorrect Good article badges

Not sure if this is the place to bring this up, but @Katimawan2005 keeps adding Good article badges to sitelinks to Kapampangan Wikipedia articles that aren't actually Good articles. Looking at the articles themselves, they're stubs created by the same user, likely by translation, and often contain cite errors and sometimes untranslated passages. So these are unlikely to be Good articles by the standards of any wiki.

I brought this up on their talk page, but the user has made several subsequent edits with the same issue. I'm not familiar with mass edit tools and there have probably been more than 100 of these edits so far. --Veikk0.ma (talk) 05:51, 22 November 2023 (UTC)

Q52956473

Wikidata item Q52956473 is associated to a wrong Wikipedia page (in Italian: "Società cooperativa") the Wikipedia page "Società cooperativa" rather corresponds to Wikidata item Q4539, which already has correct corresponding pages in many languages, including Italian. Being an important concept, this may cause problems.

My advice is to delete the link between Wikidata Q52956473 and Wikipedia "Società cooperativa", or at least to deprecate it (I cannot add badges) 147.123.96.2 09:28, 24 November 2023 (UTC)

Adaptation of article name on Wikidata to Wikipedia article name

Hello! The English Wikipedia article of https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q692083 has been renamed from SIG Combibloc Group to SIG Group based on the official renaming of the organisation. I now wanted to follow-up on this on Wikidata so that the SIG Group articles of the other Wikipedia projects are visible again on the English article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SIG_Group. As I tried to adapt the name of the English Wikipedia article on Wikidata, the following message popped up: "The save has failed. Warning: You are trying to add/remove badges to this item. At local Wikipedias adding or removing badges are done by consensus. Saving this edit was blocked and should be done only by administrators or trusted users. If you think you are correct, please contact an administrator." Please explain how I should do this correctly. Futurebassbass (talk) 19:10, 27 November 2023 (UTC)

The sitelink for en:SIG Group was already attached to Q123257697 instance of disambiguation page. I have moved the sitelink to SIG Group (Q692083). -- William Graham (talk) 01:26, 28 November 2023 (UTC)

Assistance Needed with Automated Filter Blocking Edit

Hi, I attempted to create an item for a document related to a Wikipedia article's subject and received this message:

"This action has been automatically identified as harmful, and therefore disallowed. If you believe your action was constructive, please inform an administrator of what you were trying to do. A brief description of the abuse rule which your action matched is: specific spam items"

The document I tried to create an item for is called "ERC-721: Non-Fungible Token Standard" . This isn't the forum to discuss notability or verifiability, but I will say the document is very well sourced among scholarly articles and in mainstream media, which I can back up soundly.

I am unsure what triggered the issue.

My description was: A paper introducing the NFT concept and the first technical standard for creating unique digital assets on the Ethereum blockchain

My aliases were: ERC-721|ERC721|erc-721|erc721|ERC 721|erc 721|ERC-721: Non-fungible Token Standard|ERC721: Non-Fungible Token Standard|ERC 721: Non-fungible Token Standard|ERC-721 NFT Standard|ERC721 NFT Standard|ERC 721 NFT Standard

I believed the aliases have a purpose in that the exact spelling of ERC-721 may vary subtly with use of spaces or dashes or capitalization. I was unsure about how case sensitivity is processed here but I assume it would be benefit human readers for clarity. I did attempt to resubmit without those aliases present, only one of them, and I still received the same issue (which is why I am confused because that seemed like the most likely culprit of triggering a spam filter, or otherwise it being an "NFT related topic" and automatically flagging it as "contentious.")

What can we do here? Codeconjurer777 (talk) 12:48, 27 November 2023 (UTC)

User was indefinitely blocked from editing Peter C. Gøtzsche (Q7173132) by me due to edit warring, valepert was legitimately reverting wrong edits. --Sannita - not just another it.wiki sysop 17:21, 16 November 2023 (UTC)
User:Sannita So, you indefinitely blocked me for providing sourced information and restored broken link instead. I have never in years of contributing to Wikipedia, writing many articles, have encountered such atrocious and unreasonable behavior. --Fabius byle (talk) 17:27, 16 November 2023 (UTC)
I removed the old broken link since it had no source whatsoever, but I'm not reinstating the other links, since - as valepert correctly notes - they indicate the official websites of other institutions and not of Gøtzsche himself. This is final. And no, you haven't provided sourced information, it was just you claiming you were right. Sannita - not just another it.wiki sysop 17:32, 16 November 2023 (UTC)
See discussion: Talk:Q7173132
Fabius byle (talk) 17:56, 16 November 2023 (UTC)
It's also possible to write Peter C. Gøtzsche and ask him to clarify, which one of the websites is suited best and publish this information somewhere on his webpages. It would be much better than deleting everything and anything on this well-established medical researcher's webpages. Because now when all the links are deleted, it is really problematic to see where he publishes information about new works, his contacts, etc. Fabius byle (talk) 18:11, 16 November 2023 (UTC)
As I understand this situation:
Bovlb (talk) 19:50, 16 November 2023 (UTC)
@Bovlb Correct. I am not against lifting my partial block, but I am against putting those two websites as "official websites", since they are not direct expression of the person, but rather expression of institutions. Sannita - not just another it.wiki sysop 19:57, 16 November 2023 (UTC)
@Bovlb, thank you. Yes. And Peter C. Gøtzsche also has yet another page, https://deadlymedicines.dk/about/ which is his blog but it looks like it haven't been updated for two years, and his podcasts are not there. Fabius byle (talk) 19:59, 16 November 2023 (UTC)
This one may be added, but as an official blog, not as an official website. Sannita - not just another it.wiki sysop 20:04, 16 November 2023 (UTC)
I see https://www.deadlymedicines.dk/about/ is not there. I'm going to add it. I see the comment at 13:36, 19 November 2023 (UTC) below has no reply, and seems correct. I'm going to edit accordingly unless someone explains why I shouldn't. (using the qualifiers Bovlb (A) suggests.) RudolfoMD (talk) 23:07, 24 November 2023 (UTC)
@RudolfoMD, Thank you. Fabius byle (talk) 13:39, 25 November 2023 (UTC)
Beyond the bare facts, some relevant points of policy and tentative conclusions:
  • If an official website was valid but becomes a broken link, the correct action is to deprecate the claim, ideally adding the qualifiers reason for deprecated rank (P2241) link rot (Q1193907) and archive URL (P1065). An official website claim should only be removed entirely if it was never correct. Reviewing the archived copy, I see no obvious reason to doubt the old link.
  • We should avoid using collaborative efforts as official websites for an individual. Also, we have a separate property official blog URL (P1581) that is more appropriate for blogs.
  • While there are valid editorial grounds to question Fabius byle's additions, it seems clear to me that the changes were made in good faith. This was an inappropriate use of rollback by Valepert.
  • Nobody should be edit warring. This case does not meet any of the exceptions on either side.
  • Except in the most egregious of cases, which this is not, I would warn before imposing blocks for edit warring, and impose blocks only after it is clear that the warning has gone unheeded. I concede that a one-item partial block is one of the mildest possible administrative actions.
  • When taking administrative action regarding an edit war, we need to be careful not to favour one side over the other. Sannita's action here gives the appearance of favouring Valepert's side of an editorial dispute.
Bovlb (talk) 20:19, 16 November 2023 (UTC)
Oh, and sources should be added to claims as references. We should not expect Wikidata clients to refer to talk page discussion to find them. Bovlb (talk) 20:22, 16 November 2023 (UTC)
@Bovlb, thank you, hopefully, I can get my head around properly using references. Fabius byle (talk) 20:53, 16 November 2023 (UTC)
Edit summaries should be used to explain what was changed. They can also be used to justify a change, but not as an alternative to appropriate qualifiers and references. They should not be used to send messages to other editors and should never contain accusations or abuse. Bovlb (talk) 20:27, 16 November 2023 (UTC)
@Bovlb Sorry about that. Fabius byle (talk) 20:54, 16 November 2023 (UTC)
@Valepert I have reviewed some of your other recent rollbacks, and I have found several other cases where you appear to have used rollback to revert good faith edits, including Special:Diff/1996497223, Special:Diff/1987375579, Special:Diff/1973543247, Special:Diff/1960712904, Special:Diff/1893460876. We cannot deal with ITWP conduct issues here. Bovlb (talk) 22:30, 16 November 2023 (UTC)
@Bovlb, nevertheless, thank you for your help and support, didn't contribute to Wikipedia for some years and now I feel like in completely new environment, not in the best way: I have personal feeling that many things are screaming: "get out, you are not welcome here!", but maybe it's me. Fabius byle (talk) 22:43, 16 November 2023 (UTC)
the first one was clearly a mistake and I revert myself in Special:Diff/1996497348. I am not perfect, but please don't include a simple oversight in "revert good faith edits" (also Threecharlie's union was caused by a confusion on it.wiki regarding two near churches). --Valepert (talk) 22:04, 16 November 2023 (UTC)
Thank you for self-reverting. We all make mistakes. Bovlb (talk) 22:29, 16 November 2023 (UTC)
I note that Valepert's rollbacker status was granted by Sannita (apparently the only occasion on which Sannita has granted that right), they are both admins on ITWP, and there is a history of talk page communication between them. This is by no means dispositive, but it suggests an existing relationship between the two. Were I in Sannita's position, I would feel like it might be especially important in these circumstances not to give the appearance of using administrative tools to favour one side in an editorial dispute. Bovlb (talk) 22:27, 16 November 2023 (UTC)
Now I'm blocked in Italian Wikipedia for 7 days as a "vandal". Full details here. Fabius byle (talk) 22:33, 16 November 2023 (UTC)
If I remember correctly, this is my first Wikipedia project block since 2007. Fabius byle (talk) 22:49, 16 November 2023 (UTC)
This is completely irrelevant, but the Peter C. Gøtzsche is not only a brilliant scientist and co-founder of Cohrane Colaboration, an author of research published in all of the top medical journals, but also an outspoken critic of billion-dollar Big Pharma cartels, he wrote a book "Deadly Medicines and Organised Crime: How Big Pharma Has Corrupted Healthcare" (2013), which I recommend to everyone. He also wrote about Big Pharma hiring people to go after researchers. So, he is one of the people on this Planet who have really powerful enemies. Fabius byle (talk) 23:12, 16 November 2023 (UTC)
@Fabius byle I know this may be hard to hear, but this discussion may take a little time to reach a resolution. In the meantime, please consider the possibility of contributing to Wikidata in areas unrelated to Peter C. Gøtzsche. Cheers, Bovlb (talk) 23:17, 16 November 2023 (UTC)
@Bovlb OK. I stopped contributing to Wikipedia some years ago to focus on other activities beneficial to society, but maybe in the future I'll reconsider. I restored my long-forgotten Wiki Password because I thought it very important that Gøtzsche's pages have proper links for further exploration and still very much think so. Thanks again for your kind replies. Fabius byle (talk) 23:29, 16 November 2023 (UTC)
I have reviewed Fabius byle's editing activity across 20 projects. It appears that they were active years ago across a variety of topics, but their only activity this year has been in relation to Peter C. Gøtzsche and his websites. So their recent behaviour matches what we would normally describe as a "single purpose account" (SPA). This naturally gives rise to the suspicion that there are here with an outside agenda and are not contributing in good faith.
Notwithstanding, unless I'm missing something, the edits appears to be broadly correct in that the old website is undoubtedly dead, and the new websites, while not perhaps meeting the precise definition of "official website", appear to be strongly associated with the subject and at least partially controlled by him. These changes appear to have been accepted almost everywhere except for ITWP, where the changes were repeatedly reverted by Valepert and another administrator, and here on Wikidata where they were reverted by Valepert.
While these changes may not be technically perfect, I feel that I'm missing some vital context here as to why they should be so strongly opposed. Bovlb (talk) 05:24, 17 November 2023 (UTC)
@Bovlb A have restored my Wikipedia password precisely because I found the issue important enough to correct, if not for this, I wouldn't have returned to Wikipedia, wouldn't appeal destructive decisions.
I'm on Wikipedia from 2006, have contributed to some articles for which I'm proud till today and I think that I didn't visit for a long time technically still doesn't make my account SPA.
Gøtzsche's research is literally a matter of life and death to some people, and that's why I'm here.
P.S.
Speaking of where I come from outside Wikipedia, I literally know how it feels to stand up to organized oppressive forces, I had to leave my own country because I publicly opposed Putin's invasion of Ukraine and could have been jailed for that. And I know from experience what does it mean to be harassed by seemingly anonymous force with agenda. As a matter of fact, Gøtzsche goes against powerful forces, which, as a matter of fact, do hire specialized PR and detective companies to harass and lessen public impact. This is not a conspiracy, I can provide sources for this if need be.
Fabius byle (talk) 08:54, 17 November 2023 (UTC)
@Bovlb yesterday Sannita as an administrator on two pages has used the words "this is final" to comment on his decisions which makes an appearance that it's impossible to appeal his unilateral posture. I wonder if this kind of wording is appropriate as it could've easily turned down a person unaccustomed to Wikipedia from rightfully challenging Sannita's position. Fabius byle (talk) 11:16, 17 November 2023 (UTC)
@Bovlb Sorry, I'm currently at the Italian Wikiconference, and I don't have much time to read or react to things, so I'll just react to this perceived conflict of interest, and skip the rest for lack of time. Apologies for that.
I was noticed of the problem on the item by another Italian user, the fact that valepert was involved is purely accidental, and I would've acted the way I did with any two users involved. The links that Fabius is trying to validate as official websites are not, in fact, official websites of the item's person, and you yourself recognised that. I merely decided that it would have been unfair to block to admins the item, not allowing other valid users to edit it, when the problem was stemming from the action of a user who has focused on only one theme (which is, to me, suspicious). Therefore, I decided to partially block the person -- and I would do it again. I also did so after checking myself the links involved, I did not take anyone's part, but Wikidata's.
That's all from me. I will be half active until Monday, so whatever you decide I'll call it fair. Sannita - not just another it.wiki sysop 14:13, 17 November 2023 (UTC)
@Bovlb @Sannita. Just to be clear. If you open Gøtzsche's latest book, the scientificfreedom.dk website address is not only mentioned on the title page. Open page 199, there is a line,

After having studied the issues carefully, I was no longer in doubt and wrote an article about the obvious: Made in China: the coronavirus that killed millions of people. I published it on my website in May 2021 [12] and repeated it in a medical journal in December 2021. [13]

And when you open the references on the relevant page (page 229), there is a link to scientificfreedom.dk:

[12] Gøtzsche PC. Made in China: the coronavirus that killed millions of people. Institute for Scientific Freedom 2021; May 19.

So the guy literally tells that scientificfreedom.dk is his website in his book (and does this more than once).
Fabius byle (talk) 06:34, 18 November 2023 (UTC)
@Sannita, as about you finding suspicious that the person actually wants to add something of value to the Wikipedia readers, as opposed to replacing information with a broken link or purging it and protecting the page as your comrade @Valepert did in Italian Wikipedia, I find it amazing. I will allow myself to quote Gøtzsche on that "Most idealistic organisations end up destroying themselves because they let the wrong leaders take over" (he told it about Cochrane Collaboration which is essentialy kind of a "Wikipedia-spirit" collaborative project for medical research which he helped cofound and used to be one of the most established medical research institutions in the World). I would appreciate input from other administrators here. I feel like I must be missing something about what is going on. Bovlb (talk) 18:32, 18 November 2023 (UTC)
Obviously, I'm not an administrator, but let me put it short: certain Wikipedia administrators and editors don't want the links to genuine websites of a prominent scientist critical of Big Pharma and official COVID origin theory to be published. According to @Sannita, the website, which the scientist in question has defined as his own in his own book, is not "his enough". To which I can only ask, is there a certain rule or criteria which can be used to objectively decide on the issue: which website can or cannot be called person's website?, if there is no guideline or criteria, is it good for Wikipedia and Wikidata, that this is determined by someone's whim? Fabius byle (talk) 00:23, 19 November 2023 (UTC)
I did some research on the issue and there is a WP:ELOFFICIAL rule:

An official link is a link to a website or other Internet service that meets both of the following criteria:

  1. The linked content is controlled by the subject (organization or individual person) of the Wikipedia article.
  2. The linked content primarily covers the area for which the subject of the article is notable.

Official links (if any) are provided to give the reader the opportunity to see what the subject says about itself.

  1. Is the linked content of scientificfreedom.dk is controlled by the subject? The only staff are 2 people: the subject himself as director and the subjects deputee, so Yes.
  2. Does the linked content cover the area for which the subject is notable? Yes.
  3. Does the linked content give the reader an opportunity to see what the subject tells about theirself? Also Yes.
So, is this link official enough? Yes.So, it must be included co accomodate for a previous broken link as a subject's official website.
As about how should it be included, I have read about Wikidata properties P856:official website and P2868:subject has role. So (to my undestanding, which might be wrong since I'm not accustomed to Wikidata's inner workings), It is possible to include them together as an "official website" with a role "director".

@Bovlb I just wanted to thank you for the time and energy that you have already invested in untangling this issue. No matter how the issue will be solved (or not solved), you are already a beacon of my belief in what's good in humanity. I was really happy to see someone like you with a sincere wish to help. Since I have been asked to contribute to this discussion by Fabius byle: I share the impression of Bovlb that we are missing some important context here. As a general rule, intimate emotional involvement with the subject of an item can be problematic when editing items. On the other hand, the activities of the “other side” seem somewhat strange to me, too. But I don’t see how a(nother) admin could step in here in any meaningful way if we are missing vital information. I sure understand how this can be frustrating but that’s really all I can contribute at this point in time. --Emu (talk) 16:04, 21 November 2023 (UTC)
@Emu, thank you for reply. What information that you consider vital is missing and can possibly be contributed to resolve the issue?
Speaking about my initial reaction, I really got upset about the perceived unfairness of the situation, and I'm sorry for being emotional. Appreciate the previous input from @Bovlb for putting me back on track. Fabius byle (talk) 16:10, 21 November 2023 (UTC)
I was asked to give my opinion on this discussion by @Fabius byle:. It took me some time to go through the edits leading to a block as well as the discussion above. As it appears to me Fabius byle has a strong POV on the matters Peter C. Gøtzsche brings forward. He has added https://www.scientificfreedom.dk/ and https://brokenmedics.com/ as official websites for Peter C. Gøtzsche. According to these websites, they are the websites of the Institute for Scientific Freedom, which in its nature as an organization in stead of a natural person is clearly not the same as Peter C. Gøtzsche himself. For that obvious reason, these websites can not count as his official websites. @Sannita: was right to state that Peter C. Gøtzsche writing that one of the webisites is "my website" is not enough to change view on this, as I suppose that he might express that as seeing the Institute for Scientific Freedom as his institute.
I am slightly concerned that the numerous edits Fabius byle has made in this discussion is an expression of his strong opinion on the subject and his thoughts on how "big pharma" is acting. That might blind him in this discussion, while we are in fact trying to maintain a database in which the way data is stored has to be considered very carefully. In that light, I would think that there is a possible way to avoid all the discussion by creating an item on the Institute for Scientific Freedom, supposing that it is sufficiently notable. --Lymantria (talk) 18:00, 21 November 2023 (UTC)
@Lymantria, thank you for your feedback, I appreciate you investing time in this issue. Fabius byle (talk) 19:06, 21 November 2023 (UTC)
Peter C. Gøtzsche's twitter page says
brokenmedics.com is "my evidence-based podcast series." No ads, no censorship.
Furthermore, @brokenmedics. Don't believe in anything for which there is no evidence (Dawkins).
says: Host: Professor Peter C Gøtzsche, Institute for Scientific Freedom. So it seems to me it is his show.

@Sannita, can you explain why you removed his namesake site, instead of deprecating it? And maybe self-revert and deprecate it? And unblock byle?
Can you retract or provide evidence for your claim that " According to these websites, they are the websites of the Institute for Scientific Freedom"? Looking at https://brokenmedics.com/about/ , I find it unverifiable, and to the contrary, the evidence I do find says it is his. RudolfoMD (talk) 23:34, 24 November 2023 (UTC)
Now don't be kidding us. when you open https://brokenmedics.com/, it reads "Broken Medical Science, Institute for Scientific Freedom". Clearly PCG plays a leading role, but he is not the same as the institute. --Lymantria (talk) 09:10, 25 November 2023 (UTC)
Don't be snarky. True. And Bovlb (A) correctly noted, "the edits appears to be broadly correct in that the old website is undoubtedly dead, and the new websites, while not perhaps meeting the precise definition of "official website", appear to be strongly associated with the subject and at least partially controlled by him. These changes appear to have been accepted almost everywhere except for ITWP".
@Sannita (A), can you explain why you removed his namesake site, instead of deprecating it? And maybe self-revert and deprecate it?
Do you claim that every entity that has set up an LLC to run their website should not have their site in their wikidata entry? I'm guessing that if one were to look up, folks like, say, Oprah, Dr Ruth, Martha Stewart, etc, some have set up some kind of legal entity to run the site on their behalf. Are we saying they mustn't have their site in their wikidata entry, or are we treating PCG specially? RudolfoMD (talk) 10:47, 26 November 2023 (UTC)
Seeing no reply, and that Harpo Productions site, oprah.com is on Oprah's wikidata page, and the argument above, I think adding https://www.scientificfreedom.dk/ back is reasonable.
Either that or we should remove oprah.com. Any counterarguments? RudolfoMD (talk) 13:10, 26 November 2023 (UTC)
A good argument! Fabius byle (talk) 14:19, 26 November 2023 (UTC)

Thanks for fixing the deprecated rank (and pulling back on your ire). Sorry if I wasn't clear; in order to find my action extremely offending, you assumed my " Seeing no reply " was responding to you. It was responding to Lymantria who posted below without responding to me. I'm extremely offended that you are refusing to respond to my argument or questions about scientificfreedom.dk that byle says is "A good argument!" Referring to your previous comment doesn't do so. I checked and my argument is valid for Oprah here and on wpit. Haven't checked any others - Dr Ruth, Martha Stewart, etc. I asked 3 questions and got zero answers. So I think it's appropriate that I put scientificfreedom.dk in now. But I'll give folks yet another opportunity to respond, just to show I'm going above and beyond with an additional effort to discuss before making an edit that has been reverted. (NB: I have yet to put scientificfreedom.dk in at all.) RudolfoMD (talk) 22:00, 26 November 2023 (UTC)
Sorry to disappear in the middle of this discussion. I was obliged to take an unexpected wikibreak. Thanks to others for stepping in. Bovlb (talk) 17:51, 27 November 2023 (UTC)
After returning to this issue and re-reading, this discussion to me points to a general failure of "Semantic Web". Even in mathematics there are such things as fuzzy sets which allow for non-determinate membership of elements. And here on Wikidata, because of the supposedly strict deterministic nature of all the properties, the information is lost. Peter C. G., a scientist, stops maintaining his old webpage and creates a webpage for two-member institution instead (with him as director and another person as deputy) which does no longer count as his webpage. Even though, it still actually is a kind of his webpage, just not in a strict enough sense to reach a consensus.
Without taking into account the particular of case Peter C. G.'s official website: Because of a supposedly strictly deterministic nature of properties of it's records, it is possible for Wikidata to have have emergent behavior which is indistiguishable from malicious compliance. Fabius byle (talk) 19:15, 25 November 2023 (UTC)
So, for example, it's possible to have person's website, website of a person and their partner, website of a person and their dog, website of a person and their partner and friends, and infinite number of kind-of persons websites, all strictly following WP:ELOFFICIAL, but not good enough for Wikidata.
Returning to Gøtzsche, of course I can only speculate on his motives on why he deleted the previous website and is now is using "The Institute of Scientific Freedom" (which website he also calls his): people speaking truth to power are known to create non-commercial entities to protect themselves from liabilities. Because billion-dollar entities are prone to sue their critics into poverty. And to disallow a person to have a personal website as a non-commercial personally-controlled entity for me seems like just another handicap for those who speak truth.
Is the "Institude for Scientific Freedom" a notable entity? To me it doesn't seem so, it is just Gøtzsche's frontend, for all purposes. So, because it doesn't conform to strict rules of Semantic Web, looks like the consensus among administrators is that it deserves oblivion with all the relevant books and articles. Fabius byle (talk) 20:04, 25 November 2023 (UTC)
Institute for Scientific Freedom (Q123555158) seems to be notable combined with Institute for Scientific Freedom (Q123555165). --Lymantria (talk) 12:39, 26 November 2023 (UTC)
Ah, I see you just created both. One for the Institute, the other for the BMJ article announcing it. RudolfoMD (talk) 13:01, 26 November 2023 (UTC)
@Lymantria, thank you for that. Less than two weeks ago I didn't know Wikidata even existed. The only thing that I saw was that (usually neat and handy on most other pages) infoboxes on Gøtzsche's Wikipedia pages in some languages have pointed to a broken link. Since @Sannita has deleted a link, there was no link at all. Now, after the link was restored by @RudolfoMD, there is a broken link again [example], it is better than nothing but not as good as a working link with all of the last years works of Peter Gøtzsche, as, unfortunately, the new "Institute for Scientific Freedom" records do not appear on the infoboxes. Fabius byle (talk) 14:05, 26 November 2023 (UTC)
Now that really is a wikipedia problem, not a wikidata problem. There is no reason why infoboxes couldn't be dealt with manually, and also a reference sections could have links to any website containing information. Your pointing to "oblivion" is just a look at the dark side. --Lymantria (talk) 15:42, 26 November 2023 (UTC)
Just to note that I'm against @RudolfoMD revert of my edit, and that I was more favourable to put the links in the institute's item, and not the person's. Anyway, I don't want to create an edit war, so I'm not gonna undo RudolfoMD's edit, but I'm asking to apply the consensus that we reached here anyway.
I completely misunderstood, my bad. RudolfoMD edit is legit, they just forgot to put the deprecated rank to the website, but I did it. I thought they were going to reinstate the institute's link, I was wrong and I apologise for the misunderstanding. Sannita - not just another it.wiki sysop 20:01, 26 November 2023 (UTC)
@Lymantria, thank you again. Returning to the theme of fuzzy sets, it would be a good idea to create a degree of certainty qualifier for property values, which I think could have solved the problem with Peter Gøtzsche's official webpage and many more other issues when strictness of data rules is defeating the actual purpose of storing the data in the first place. Fabius byle (talk) 21:17, 26 November 2023 (UTC)
To elaborate what I propose: certain values of some properties can get a qualifier which will signal that they are "fuzzy" which means that certain property's value is possible for a somewhat less-strict definition of a property or in general because our knowledge is limited. So, some Wikidata values will be strict and some others fuzzy.
This is much closer to real life than just discarding legitimate information which is a recipe for censorship-like abuse where different strictness is randomly applied in different cases. Where, as @RudolfoMD put, there is an Oprahs oprah.com which is ran by Harper Productions and it is OK, and a Gøtzsche's site which is ran by him as a director of two person's team, is not OK.
Fuzzy values are the saviors of data freedom. Fabius byle (talk) 18:16, 27 November 2023 (UTC)

review deletion decision

On July 21, 2023, I suggested the data object Katharina Bauer (Q116189710) for deletion. On November 14, 2023, the administrator Ajraddatz decided that the data object would be retained. I would now like to have this decision reviewed by the other administrators because, in my opinion, the reasoning is incorrect. In his justification for the decision, Ajraddatz writes that there is no consensus on deletion. Since when is consensus required for deletion? It is deleted if the notability criteria are not met. Okay, furthermore Ajraddatz writes that the data object would be notable under notability criterion 2. But this is not the case. Because the data object only functions via BillionGraves grave ID (P10554) and FamilySearch person ID (P2889). However, these two identifiers do not create notability according to notability criterion 2, because it is user-generated data. --Gymnicus (talk) 14:20, 22 November 2023 (UTC)

It does seem that you have not contacted the deleting admin first. That would be the first step to further discuss this deletion. Hence no further comments. --Lymantria (talk) 15:12, 22 November 2023 (UTC)
I think he's asking for a review of my decision to not delete the item - happy to provide a rationale and no issues if another admin wants to delete the item instead. In summary of my rationale: having participated in most of the early conversations on notability here, I remember two salient points: an item number is never reused if deleted, and other sites use our data. As such, we should air on the side of inclusion, unless there is a good reason not to. In this case, the subject of the item is listed on two external databases. The subject is clearly an identifiable entity and is described using what I would consider to be serious and publicly available resources - while they may be user generated, they appear to be well maintained by third parties and I have not encountered evidence to the contrary. These aren't on the same level as a link to an Instagram page. In my view, that meets criterion #2 of WD:N. Having established that there is a reason to keep the item, my analysis turned to whether there would be a good reason to delete the item regardless. I could not find any - the article is not promotion/vandalism and does not have potential BLP issues as the subject is deceased. There was also not consensus to delete the item, which to be clear is not required for deletion, but would be a reason why I would delete an item that I would otherwise consider notable, had consensus emerged and been persuasive. -- Ajraddatz (talk) 15:26, 22 November 2023 (UTC)
Similar cases include Wikidata:Requests for deletions/Archive/2023/11/09#Q117844136 and Wikidata:Requests for deletions/Archive/2023/11/09#Q117283304 For what it’s worth, I disagree with your understanding of our notability guidelines and I don’t think that early conversations on notability is a really good argument – times have changed, our understanding of notability has, too. Your recent rulings effectively set the precedent that everybody who has ever lived but has died is notable – and if we accept that, there is very little reason not to grant that privilege to every person alive today and every business, work of art or Youtube video. --Emu (talk) 16:04, 22 November 2023 (UTC)
It's certainly possible that my policy interpretation is a relic of the past. I am not saying that every person who ever lived but died is notable, and I am not saying that we should include any of the other slippery slope examples that you listed. Has the extent of WD:N #2 been subject to broad community discussion over the last few years? If so, I would appreciate the link. If not, maybe that discussion should happen. -- Ajraddatz (talk) 16:44, 22 November 2023 (UTC)
Not really, it’s mostly admin practice and some WD:RFD discussions with RAN usually on one side and me on the other side. Recently Wikidata:Requests for comment/Must 'Serious' WikiData sources be selective? has been opened but as with most RfC discussions, it kinda went nowhere. I think most admins and other users try to stay away from those kind of discussions since they often result in miles of text with very little new arguments to be found. --Emu (talk) 09:47, 24 November 2023 (UTC)
That's fair, and thanks for the link. Returning to the cases at hand, what is the alternative to my close for each of the three items in question? There is clearly no consensus to delete, either there or here (yet)? Do these RfDs just remain open indefinitely since there isn't a critical mass that cares one way or the other? -- Ajraddatz (talk) 22:17, 25 November 2023 (UTC)
I think we generally hope for a judgement call by an admin, so I’m grateful after all that you took care of those RfD discussions. I wouldn’t have said anything because while I do think that the decisions to keep were wrong, notability decisions aren’t an exact science and there was no reason not to assume good faith. But after your response to Gymnicus’ request, I felt that this might set a precedent that I consider to be dangerous. Personally, I don’t think that the continued existence of the items for Katharina Bauer (Q116189710), Archibald Olive (Q117844136) or even JUDr. Josef Cupka (Q117283304) constitute any danger to Wikidata. But that doesn't mean that I think it’s a good idea to judge similar cases in a similar fashion. --Emu (talk) 22:42, 25 November 2023 (UTC)
Hmm, that makes sense. It seems like the community is pretty divided on this, so maybe the way forward is a compromise. How does this sound as an application of WD:N #2:
  • An item refers to an instance of a clearly identifiable conceptual or material entity only if it can describe that concept/entity in detail sufficient to understand core information about the concept/entity and differentiate it from others, and only if that description is sourced. Katharina Bauer (Q116189710) would be an edge case under this interpretation - I would not expect to regularly retain items with this level of detail, as they provide relatively little information on the entity they are describing. Archibald Olive (Q117844136) is an example of an item that would comfortably fall within this definition due to the level of detail provided.
  • A serious and publicly available reference must have some degree of objectivity / relability (sites like IMDB or links to individual Facebook or Instagram pages would not meet this criteria), and if they are crowdsourced or user generated, there must be evidence that the content is well maintained by third parties, or at least a lack of evidence to the contrary. Basically a serious source means that the average reader could be confident that it is accurately providing information on the concept or entity in question. Here again, IxTheo authority ID (P10553) and FamilySearch person ID (P2889) fall on the more precarious end of this spectrum but still within it.
  • The above are necessary to establish if WD:N #2 should apply, but after that analysis would come a consideration of whether the item should be deleted regardless: spam/promotional content, violates BLP or another policy, etc.
I think some criteria like this would form a nice middle ground. It would result in items being deleted that I would personally be ok with keeping, but should address some of your valid concerns about maintaining the integrity of the data here, particularly given our small community compared to our large scope. -- Ajraddatz (talk) 15:28, 27 November 2023 (UTC)
@Lymantria: It's new to me that this regulation exists here at Wikidata. I know that it exists in the German-language Wikipedia. If it's here too and I've missed it so far, then I apologize. --Gymnicus (talk) 16:24, 22 November 2023 (UTC)
It is not a regulation, but a matter of politeness. Perhaps my wordings have been too fierce, caused by expections on my side of behaviour by expierenced users like you. --Lymantria (talk) 17:14, 22 November 2023 (UTC)
  • I think we should stop using "user generated/crowdsourced" as a synonym for "not serious" or "unreliable" or "exploitable". Wikidata itself is user-generated, and is a reliable and serious data set because it is under the editorial control of a group of people, actively searching for, and correcting errors, and removing exploited entries. If you want a serious discussion, you have to compare error rates. At one time Encyclopedia Britannica (scholarly generated) and Wikipedia (user generated/crowdsourced) were compared. See: w:Wikipedia:Press_releases/Nature_compares_Wikipedia_and_Britannica and the Wikipedia model had fewer errors. This is because our print cycle is instantaneous, and errors are corrected on the fly. Findagrave and Billion Graves use the same model. We have an image of a tombstone for Katharina Bauer (Q116189710) at Billion Graves that gives us multiple data points for the Wikidata entry. The argument "everybody who has ever lived but has died is notable" is incorrect. It is "everybody who has ever lived but has died" who can be "described using serious and publicly available references". Most people died before extant record keeping. For instance the State of Pennsylvania did not start recording birth, marriages, and deaths until 1905. New York City did not start recording birth, marriages, and deaths until 1866. There are 226 million entries at Findagrave. The Death Master File (DMF) from the Social Security Administration (SSA) contains 94 million entries. We have over 10 million humans in Wikidata. Somehow I manage to find the exact person I am looking for in Findagrave (FAG) and the Death Master File (DMF) despite the large number of entries. --RAN (talk) 16:38, 24 November 2023 (UTC)
I’m afraid I have to disagree with almost every statement:
    1. Wikidata
      1. Wikidata is not a reliable and serious data set in the sense of our notability guidelines. It’s a remarkable enterprise and it has a monopoly in its domain, you can do fascinating things with it but you cannot trust individual statements and even many aggregates, even if you factor in the limitations of an open-world assumption.
      2. The editorial control in Wikidata is still pretty weak because our user base is far too small and we have far too few admins to exercise real control about all subject matters. That said, there are pockets of Wikidata with remarkable editorial control (for example Hungarian noblemen) but even those hinge on a few or even just one active user.
    2. Wikipedia
      1. I don’t know any major Wikipedia language edition that accepts an article in another language edition as proof of notability. In many major Wikipedia language editions, Wikipedia articles even are either forbidden as sources or at least frowned upon (“Wikipedia is not a source”). In Wikidata, imports from Wikipedia generally aren’t considered to be first class references. The fact that we accept sitelinks as proof of notability has to do with our history and mission statement – I doubt that there would be a consensus for automatic notability of, say, ceb.wp articles or Commons categories.
      2. Wikipedia has a much more limited scope, so exercising editorial control is much easier.
    3. Findagrave and Billion Graves
      1. Is there any proof that those databases exercise a degree of editorial control similiar to, say, OSM?
      2. And even if, how does the mere fact that some tombstone really exists suggest notability of a person?
Those are of course only challenges to the premises of your argument and not necessarily to the validity of your theory. But you know my opinion: We don’t have endless resources for editorial control, especially not for people, businesses, works of art, etc. To demand that somebody other than the subject or one of its agents, a random internet crowd or the Government had some interest in documenting something seems to be a good start in determining what even could be notable. --Emu (talk) 22:30, 25 November 2023 (UTC)
  • I think this item should not be deleted individually since there are plenty of other items in a similar condition. This needs to be discussed on a more general level; however, since it is common practice for years meanwhile to import from such crowdsourced databases and claim notability based on those identifiers, I don't see much chances to completely undo this again and remove large amounts of items from here. There may be individual cases which are stronger (promotion/COI, really poor quality source, BLP, etc), but for most items from these sources this is fortunately not the case. —MisterSynergy (talk) 22:41, 25 November 2023 (UTC)

Arctodus wikidata

Hi! Pretty simply really, but as the Wikidata for Arctodus & Arctodus simus is locked for me...

a) I can't link the Arctodus simus' Wikidata to the English Wiki article for Arctodus (it's currently a 'giant short-faced bear' redirect to the subfamily's Wiki page)

b) I am also unable to edit the Arctodus genus Wikidata to change the Simple Wiki from 'short faced bear' to the new Arctodus article.

Would this be possible for an administrator to do please? SuperTah (talk) 15:03, 30 November 2023 (UTC)

@SuperTah From the logs, it looks like you have been hitting the badge filter on Arctodus simus (Q683207). I'm not sure why that filter should be triggering here (CC @Pasleim, @Matěj Suchánek). As you are an editor in good standing on your home project, I have granted you confirmed status here, which should resolve the problem. Bovlb (talk) 16:59, 30 November 2023 (UTC)
Super, thank you very much! SuperTah (talk) 23:14, 30 November 2023 (UTC)
@Bovlb: Well, the user was changing a link which had a badge attached. The filter matches on the edit summary which for such a change includes wbsetsitelink-set-both (i.e., the system considers this a badge change). I'm not sure if there was agreement on letting such changes pass, or not.
I was also wondering if the intentional sitelink to redirect (Q70894304) and sitelink to redirect (Q70893996) badges could be allowed regardless of permission. --Matěj Suchánek (talk) 18:12, 1 December 2023 (UTC)
As I understand it, the main problem that we're trying to prevent is that spammers create stub articles and then slap "good article" badges on them. From this perspective, the filter could be a little more lenient.
A better approach might be if we had a way to verify badges, given that they largely reflect status in the client project. For example, I suspect that we are slow to update when articles lose their status. Bovlb (talk) 18:22, 1 December 2023 (UTC)
@Bovlb: We had a bot for this, I think DeltaBot would do that. But it was stopped.
The problem with maintenance is that you need to collect the sources for each wiki (we have 900+ wikis, incl. 300+ Wikipedias).
When you have done that, you can quite easily import the badges. But updates/removals can be difficult.
For example, DeltaBot would rely on PetScan (because it can combine local categories with WDQS). If PetScan had downtime, the bot would consider that "0 badges" on the wiki side and remove all badges. (Sure, some sanity check would work.) Or what if the wiki just changed the categorization and didn't tell us?
I'm really in favor of a bot. But it needs careful maintenance. --Matěj Suchánek (talk) 13:20, 2 December 2023 (UTC)
DeltaBot does manage badges, but only for very few cases (project/badge combinations). Input is taken from User:DeltaBot/badges, the source code is at github, and the job runs daily. —MisterSynergy (talk) 18:01, 2 December 2023 (UTC)
@MisterSynergy: So "maintain badges" is not "stopped" anymore? --Matěj Suchánek (talk) 09:48, 3 December 2023 (UTC)
Correct, it is running again. It is the "badges" cronjob as listed here, and I have already linked the source code in my previous posting. The table on the bot user page is not really up to date, maybe I should change this as well.
Pasleim has not edited since a year, but pretty much exactly one year ago I offered him to co-maintain his bots and tools as he was already slipping into inactivity. He granted me access to everything that is necessary to operate these bots. I have tried to contact him in May this year again regarding necessary modernizations, but he did not respond anymore. In September I had some time available to maintain his bots; I refactored/rewrote many of the existing scripts which were in a 2015-ish condition, and also reorganized the task scheduding to a much more robust setup. The currently used sources can be found in a repo hosted on my Github account, which is a fork from the original Deltabot repo at Pasleims Github account. Furthermore, all PLbot activities have been migrated to DeltaBot, and I was also able to reactivate some previously broken tasks.
The entire setup is much more stable now, fortunately. It could still be improved and I have plans to do so, but I do currently not have time for this. Anyways, due to Pasleim's inactivity, I am effectively the only maintainer of these bots these days, although Pasleim still is listed as a maintainer and he also still has access to everything. —MisterSynergy (talk) 10:12, 3 December 2023 (UTC)

Report concerning User:KunzLob954

KunzLob954 (talk • contribs • deleted contribs • logs • filter log • block user • block log • SUL (for IP: GUC))Reasons: New user removing hundreds of sitelinks to redirects. I’ve asked on their discussion page, but they continue without explanation. I’m not firm on policy around these sitelinks, but unless there’s some reasoning please slow them down & possibly revert. ―Karl Oblique (talk) 17:54, 26 November 2023 (UTC)

Addendum: User:Le ripeur de la peur, also a new account, has created RfD for many of these items. Karl Oblique (talk) 22:56, 26 November 2023 (UTC)

They seem too much to work together to be true. We should probably do a checkuser about these two. Also the number of false positive is really high. Fralambert (talk) 23:55, 26 November 2023 (UTC)

While there are legitimate use cases for sitelinks to redirects, there is no point in having items not linked from any other item and where the only sitelink is a redirect. There are also such items that are linked from other items but those links are (for example) just said to be the same as (P460) or should actually link the item of the redirect target. --KunzLob954 (talk) 11:22, 27 November 2023 (UTC)

While I have no problem with list and disambuguation items the fact that some items like Marinus Schöberl (Q1600608) and Marinus Schöberl (Q1600608) have their redirect deleted seem more that you deleted all the redirect without distinction. It's not because they where merge in the local wiki that they need to be deleted here, the item may represent a different concept. Fralambert (talk) 12:19, 27 November 2023 (UTC)
This item is a known singer-songwriter's label. It's a redirect because the guy isn't super-famous. You deleted that redirect, then, three minutes later, this other account submits it for deletion: Wikidata:Requests for deletions/Archive/2023/11/27#Q1783582? Same for about two 2/3 of those deletion requests. Q279476 is an actual road, some others are ships etc.
Redirects in dewiki also have notability requirements. It's not an exact comparison, but any redirect should have 'some' representation here, at least as an alias.
Besides: how do these two users relate? You registered years ago, did not edit once, and just yesterday developed very strong opinions on sitelinks to redirects? And some French guy registered yesterday because they admired your obscure edits and felt compelled to follow up with deletions? Karl Oblique (talk) 12:19, 27 November 2023 (UTC)
I started Wikidata:Requests for checkuser/Case/KunzLob954. --Lymantria (talk) 21:54, 28 November 2023 (UTC)
Sockpuppetry is confirmed. --Lymantria (talk) 21:04, 3 December 2023 (UTC)
Not every redirect needs a corresponding Wikidata item (and in fact many do not have one). Whether an item makes sense is determined by WD:N (where #1 explicitly states that redirect sitelinks do not establish notability), and if the item fails notability, there is no point in keeping it. Note that items failing #1 (because the only sitelink points to a redirect) and #3 (not linked from any other item) may still be notable due to #2, but where that is not the case (no references or only imported from Wikimedia project (P143) stuff), there, yes, I removed the sitelink and had the item’s deletion requested. --KunzLob954 (talk) 13:33, 30 November 2023 (UTC)
In the case of Marinus Schöberl (Q1600608) you mentioned, for example, the item was not even linked from murder of Marinus Schöberl (Q117286760) (now it is). If it had been linked from anywhere, I would not have done anything to that item. --KunzLob954 (talk) 13:38, 30 November 2023 (UTC)
Is Omaha Records (Q15837565) notable? It is not linked from anywhere (so fails #3) and its only references are said to be the same as (P460) and stated in (P248)MusicBrainz (Q14005) (which is actually only a reference for the MusicBrainz label ID (P966)). The guy is famous enough to have a German Wikipedia article, but is the label? It must be possible to ask that question. --KunzLob954 (talk) 13:46, 30 November 2023 (UTC)
Update: Both KunzLob954 and Le ripeur de la peur were blocked as multiple count abuse. Fralambert (talk) 16:46, 10 December 2023 (UTC)
I think that this discussion is resolved and can be archived. If you disagree, don't hesitate to replace this template with your comment. Fralambert (talk) 16:46, 10 December 2023 (UTC)
