Propiedades Faltantes edit

⟨ STS-103 (Q834666)      ⟩ mass (P2067)   ⟨ 112.493 quilogram ⟩
of (P642)   ⟨ takeoff (Q854248)      ⟩
y
⟨ STS-103 (Q834666)      ⟩ mass (P2067)   ⟨ 95.768 quilogram ⟩
of (P642)   ⟨ landing (Q844947)      ⟩

GPS-Glonass-Galileo edit

I think it would be a good idea to include some properties from this list en:List of GPS satellites. SVN, PRN, Block, type of atomic clock. --Tobias1984 (talk) 17:07, 2 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

I don't know how they would translate between systems. I didn't recognise the abbreviations: SVN is the serial number, PRN is pseudorandom noise they use to separate from each other, they also have a number? Block is model type? GLONASS has some equivalents but not under those names. The ones they have in common may be good but under a generic name as they'd cover more than navigation satellites. To give an example Kosmos 2485 would have a 'block' of Uragan-M which should be called something like space craft type. If I understand SVN then its 'SVN' would be 747, but it is called GC in GLONASS. Call it spacecraft number (differentiating from order of launching)? PRN doesn't exist in GLONASS - they use channel numbers. I don't know anything about Galileo or Beidou. Secretlondon (talk) 17:25, 15 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
Maybe we can set up a table together and see what properties we need. --Tobias1984 (talk) 09:08, 19 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
System Generation/Version Consecutive number Signal ID Position in constellation Signal band Constellation height
Navstar GPS Bloack IIA, IIR, IIR(M), IIF, III SVN: 1 -66 PRN: 1 - 32 A-F + ## L1, L2, L5 20,180 km
GLONASS Uragan-M - - - - 19,130 km
Galileo IOV, ?? Test: 1 -4, Regular: 1 -22 ? ? L1, L5, E6 23,220 km
Compass BeiDou, BeiDou-2 ?? PRN: C01 - C30 ?? E2, E5B, E6 21,150 km
Satellite based augmentation system EGNOS, WAAS, ... not needed PRN: e.g. ARTEMIS PRN 124 but shows up as 37 on hand held GPS not needed ? information held by individiual satellites

I understood SVN to be different from consecutive number, they have a consecutive number as well. Secretlondon (talk) 12:06, 19 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

I found this, which says it is the launch sequence, but only of the GPS satellites. The USA-123 designation is also consecutive I think. --Tobias1984 (talk) 12:16, 19 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
This table is also pretty helpful en:Navigation_satellite#Comparison_of_systems. --Tobias1984 (talk) 12:54, 19 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Alphasat edit

I tried to fill in the information for Inmarsat-4A F4 (Q1028735). Looks like we're still missing properties for "transmits signal (item)", "type of antenna?" and "carries experiments/scientific equipment". I also had a question: The launch vehicle was a "Ariane 5 ECA" should we create a separate item for that? We only have one for the normal Ariane 5. --Tobias1984 (talk) 17:05, 30 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Tobias1984, carries scientific instrument (P1202) is already available. What other properties are needed? Btw, I was trying to enter info about a satellite constellation (O3b (Q7072273)), how should I do it? With "has part" and each satellite as an item? On the first launch there were 5 satellites put on orbit, should I enter the launch info for each one of them or do I create a "launch item" and connect all 5 satellites to said item?--Micru (talk) 16:57, 7 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
Right now I don't think we have any important missing property. I would add the launch date to every satellite. --Tobias1984 (talk) 17:07, 7 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
What about the launch configuration, how do you specify it? Does it belong to every satellite too?--Micru (talk) 17:00, 8 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Launch of WikiProject Wikidata for research edit

Hi, this is to let you know that we've launched WikiProject Wikidata for research in order to stimulate a closer interaction between Wikidata and research, both on a technical and a community level. As a first activity, we are drafting a research proposal on the matter (cf. blog post). It would be great if you would see room for interaction! Thanks, --Daniel Mietchen (talk) 01:31, 9 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Remove constraint from P1029 edit

At the moment, crew member(s) (P1029) is restricted to astronauts. However it would also be very useful for many other types of vessels, like ships, planes, etc. On Titanic (Q25173) for example, there's currently no simple way to add crew members like Edward Smith (Q215786) or Henry Tingle Wilde (Q561474). Or to add Chesley Sullenberger (Q463124) to US Airways Flight 1549 (Q251039). A few items also seem to be already using it that way. Would there be any drawbacks to removing the astronaut constraint and making it a general property for all kinds of vessels? --Kam Solusar (talk) 00:01, 3 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

ISS modules and main components edit

I noticed that the list of the main components has part(s) of the class (P2670) of International Space Station (Q25271) is incorrect since includes:

I would remove them from has part(s) of the class (P2670) but I wonder if another properties should have to be used for each element instead of part of (P361). Indeed they are not "part of" but the "would be" or "optionally would be". Thanks for your suggestions --FabC (talk) 15:33, 9 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

I found start time (P580) as an appropriate qualifier for the value of part of (P361). A future date will indicate that the module will become part of the ISS (but now is not). See Science-Power Module-1 (Q1681656) as example. --FabC (talk) 20:33, 7 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Class of objects parts of the ISS edit

In International Space Station (Q25271) (but in other elements as well), the has part(s) of the class (P2670) statement should contain a list of CLASSES of objects that compose the station, e.g. "modules", "racks", "solar panels", ... It should NOT include items like Zarya (Q331785) that is an instance of a module. The last item International Standard Payload Rack (Q1666941) is correct, since it is a rack type (many racks inside the station are ISPR). If you agree I will start removing the current items. --FabC (talk) 17:26, 2 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

A possible Science/STEM User Group edit

There's a discussion about a possible User Group for STEM over at Meta:Talk:STEM_Wiki_User_Group. The idea would be to help coordinate, collaborate and network cross-subject, cross-wiki and cross-language to share experience and resources that may be valuable to the relevant wikiprojects. Current discussion includes preferred scope and structure. T.Shafee(evo&evo) (talk) 02:35, 26 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

Space mission and spaceflight edit

According to the actual hierarchy of classes the space mission (Q2133344) is a subclass of spaceflight (Q5916). Honestly I'm not able to see the relation. Also the definition of space mission (Q2133344) says "organisation, execution and data analysis of a space flight", that leads me to think that a spaceflight (Q5916) is a part of (P361) space mission (Q2133344). I ask your opinions before to make changes. --FabC (talk) 18:02, 25 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

start point (P1427) edit

Gràcies, thanks.--Kette~cawiki (talk) 14:45, 24 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

Confusion between COSPAR ID and NSSDCA ID / new property proposal edit

There seems to be some confusion about how the COSPAR ID is related to the NSSDCA ID. These are two separate catalogs maintained by separate organizations. Most of the time the NSSDCA equals the COSPAR ID for a given object. However, many times the two ID numbers are different for the same object. For example: Lemur-2 https://nssdc.gsfc.nasa.gov/nmc/spacecraft/display.action?id=LEMUR2105, AESP-14 https://nssdc.gsfc.nasa.gov/nmc/spacecraft/display.action?id=1998067FM, Lightsail-2 https://nssdc.gsfc.nasa.gov/nmc/spacecraft/display.action?id=2019036AC

An example where this causes problems is: Item Q96142561 (Lightsail-2) technically has the wrong COSPAR ID due to this issue but my attempts to fix the data have met resistance due to this confusion.

I have received confirmation that the above examples are not errors with their data. Any time the COSPAR ID is longer than 9 characters, the NSSDCA ID will be different due to their internal system limitations.

I would like to propose that a new property be created called NSSDCA ID to account for these differences. Apologies if I have gone about this the wrong way.

Spacepat o (talk) 19:55, 19 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Spacepat o: Interesting, I've somehow not noticed they drew such a distinction. If you'd like to formally propose a new property, you'll need to go through Wikidata:Property proposal. Your Q100605222 cannot be used as a property, btw. I'd reformat it to describe what an NSSDCA ID is, which could then be linked to the actual property if/when it is approved. I've fixed the LightSail-2 problem just now, as well. Huntster (t @ c) 22:34, 19 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Kette~cawiki:, you've once again changed LightSail-2 back to using an incorrect format. This is unacceptable. "2019036AC" is not a COSPAR id, and the NSSDCA doesn't even claim as such. Linking to an outside resource is a want, not a need for us. Our first responsibility is to be as accurate as possible. It's kind of like saying "This website doesn't accept ship MMSIs with leading zeros, so lets put wrong IDs in the field instead so it links correctly." That wouldn't be acceptable either. The data is still wrong on our side if that happens. If NSSDCA cannot be flexible enough to accept properly formatted data, then perhaps we should be linking elsewhere. Huntster (t @ c) 12:20, 20 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
I have created a proposal for a new property for the NSSDCA ID: https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Property_proposal/NSSDCA_ID. My suggestion would be to stop using the NSSDCA URL for the COSPAR ID and instead use it for the new NSSDCA ID.Spacepat o (talk) 17:00, 20 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for creating that, I was working on a proposal at the same time and you beat me to it :) Huntster (t @ c) 17:20, 20 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
Gracias--Kette~cawiki (talk) 10:19, 26 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Kette~cawiki: It is incorrect for that Property to be named NSSDCA ID, because the NSSDCA is not the regulating organization for that number. The NSSDCA merely used the COSPAR number out of convenience for their database, and implemented it poorly. The URL that COSPAR ID (P247) uses has zero bearing on what its name should be; no more than SCN (P377) should be renamed N2YO ID because it uses that website as a link. They are links of convenience, nothing more. Those links could just as easily be removed completely and the property would still be useful because they are identifying properties. The URLs simply add value. Huntster (t @ c) 14:12, 26 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Space project pages re-organization edit

I would share my first idea on how to reorganize the info already available in the project: all the properties list should be moved to the "Models" subpage, hopefully should be easy having list of properties for

  • Astronauts
  • Space missions
  • Satellites

For the ISS we could simply link the job already done for the International Space Station (thanks to Vigneron).Waiting for your comments. ― FabC (talk) 08:27, 14 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

Moon to Mars edit

Would it be worthwhile making items for the various objectives? Sort of like the Sustainable Development Goals (Q7649586) items, I'd imagine. Arlo Barnes (talk) 17:40, 10 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Looks a good idea but, please, let's define the properties for the relations like part of (P361), or "Fulfilled by" (I don't find any property for this). When creating the item let's remember that these are the NASA's objectives. FabC (talk) 20:21, 16 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, I was thinking that it would be items for the relevant sections of the document (with relevant creator [meta]data), which would point (say with main subject (P921)) to more generally applicable topical items. But now that I'm rereading the pdf linked above, I think I'll wait until there are more sources that describe how the objectives end up getting implemented; that gives the project a necessary base of refs. Arlo Barnes (talk) 01:20, 25 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Multiple concepts involved in space object (Q4235019) edit

The German description and Wikipedia page suggests this item is about objects that were first on earth and later went to space. The item seems however to be used in a way where it gets applied to objects that were never on earth.
