swissNAMES3D edit

Hi everyone, I'm writing here after this announcement by Manoillon on the french Wikipedia Swiss project talk page [1].

I've written a small simple perl script [2] in order to read the csv files and extracting wikidata properties. If someone knows how the API works, it may be possible to extend the script in order to transfer content on this project.

Thanks for reading. --Abaddon1337 (talk) 12:35, 24 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

@Abaddon1337: API doc can be found here. To create a claim see wbcreateclaim ou edit an existing claim see wbsetclaim. To add coordinates use coordinate location (P625). Snipre (talk) 16:07, 24 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

Municipalities and localities edit

Is there somewhere available online a good list of all Swiss municipalities including their component localities? After an influx of items for cebwiki articles, there is now a number of duplicated items for municipalities, may be necessary to perform some clean-up. --XXN, 21:07, 1 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

@XXN: Can you explain what you mean by "including their component localities" ? As list of Swiss municipalities, you can use the list from the federal statistical office which can be downloaded from that page. The sheet "Gemeindeliste-Liste d. communes" provides the list of all municipalities of Switzerland. The column D gives the official name of the municipality, column E is the short name, column F is the district (subdivision of the canton) where the municipaliyt is located, column G is the canton where the municipaliyt is located. There is no lower subdivision of a municipality in Switzerland. The only thing which can be considered as "component localities" of a municipalities are the old municipalities after a merge. For that case, you can find in the excel sheet under the sheet "neue Gemeinde - nlles communes" the list of new municipalities after the merge of several municipalities: column A gives the new municipality and column D the names of the original municipalities before the merge or in some cases, the name of the original municipality before a split. Snipre (talk) 20:35, 2 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Snipre: so, you want to say that Swiss municipalities are not composed of multiple settlements (like is in other countries), and every settlement in Switzerland in fact has municipality status? I saw in ceb.wiki articles like: ceb:Amden (munisipyo) = municipality and ceb:Amden (kapital sa munisipyo) = settlement-municipality seat, and this is confusing me. --XXN, 20:51, 2 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
@XXN: In most cases, one village = one municipality. The only exception is for new municipalities resulting from a merge of several municipalities: in that case you have one municipality with several villages. So we have currently around 2000 municipalities composed of one village/city and only ~250 municipalities composed of several villages. In the case of Amden, this municipality is composed of only one village so not reason to split the municipalitiy from the village unless this is a common practise in WP:ceb to split administrative division from the corresponding settlement. Snipre (talk) 21:31, 2 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
Then if you really go to the details you can have different goups of farms or even farms which are located in the different parts of the municipality and outside of the village but these houses are never considered as a settlement. Snipre (talk) 21:43, 2 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for clarification and info, Snipre. Now it's clear to me. XXN, 21:47, 2 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
There is an index of municipalities (de: Gemeinde) and their localities (de: Ortschaften) in Switzerland. You can find the data here and more here. Pinging User:XXN XPLBx (talk) 10:19, 5 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Navbox edit

As soon as I have time, I will create something similar to Template:Italy_properties or Template:France_properties. I will use "switzerland" not "Suisse" in the title.--Alexmar983 (talk) 11:58, 8 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Alexmar983: speaking of it, shouldn't this project renamed Wikidata talk:WikiProject Switzerland ? Cdlt, VIGNERON (talk) 19:23, 25 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
VIGNERON yes it should (i also discussed it off line), but Rome was not build in a day... with many things going on I put this on hold but I will resume it later.--Alexmar983 (talk) 19:28, 25 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Graphie des noms de communes edit

Bonjour,

Ping / participants list edit

Hi folks! Just quickly leaving a note here that there’s a potentially relevant discussion at Wikidata:Forum#Deutsche Beschreibungen für nichtbinäre Personen, and also, your participants list isn’t usable with {{Ping project}} (I think it needs to be a separate page, Wikidata:WikiProject Switzerland/Participants, which you can then transclude under Wikidata:WikiProject Switzerland#Participants, but I’m not sure). Have a nice day! --Lucas Werkmeister (talk) 16:20, 9 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Lucas Werkmeister: Thank you for the notification. {{Ping project}} should work as expected now. --1-Byte (talk) 06:40, 11 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

Histoires suisses et autres considérations edit

Hello, Bonjour, Grüezi,
I come to you to have your opinions.

1

Just as there are theatre building (Q24354) and theatrical troupe (Q742421), which can both be referred to as "theater", a slight problem has occurred to me and to Hannes Röst. Effectively, in the chronology of Swiss history, there are historical items and country items and everything mixes happily with periods that follow countries (replaces (P1365) and follows (P155) and their opposites, that must not be used in all items in the same way). The sitelinks chosen by the different projects do not necessarily distinguish between a historical article, a constitution, a country, etc. Example: Switzerland in the Napoleonic era (Q7886026), the Label can be confusing (we recently made some modifications). The discussion was started on this page: talk.

2

I propose to you (and I propose to develop it) a property navbox, as we can see on other country projects, for our dear Switzerland. If others want to lend a hand, it's without refusal.

Old Swiss Confederacy and its allies edit

Any ideas how we could map w:Old_Swiss_Confederacy#Associates (fr, de, it?

Supposedly they would be linking to Old Swiss Confederacy (Q435583). With diplomatic relation (P530)? Somehow I doubt sovereign state (Q3624078) is suitable on Old Swiss Confederacy (Q435583), but it's Wikidata, we can have statements about conflicting views. Not sure if anything pre-19th century is suitable for Q39. --- Jura 19:05, 13 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Social media edit

Notified participants of WikiProject Switzerland As one of the person in charge of several Wikidata accounts related to the Portuguese, Greek, and Italian languages, I am contemplating creating a trifecta of social media accounts (Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter) for Wikidata in Switzerland, similar to what already exists for India and Indonesia or maybe also Poland. Currently, I have only shared information about my CH activities on my personal accounts. However, I have the necessary skills and enthusiasm to create and manage these accounts, and I am willing to share the password with anyone interested.

Even if it's just informing about created properties or cross-post information about meetings I can tell you from the experience of It-Wikidata that creating the right ecosystem with stakeholders is worth it. The main critical aspect is that it would be in English by default with the use of national languages as the rare occurrence.

I have designed a graphical layout for my posts and tweets today about other projects, but I feel that not creating these social media accounts would be a missed opportunity. I would like to open them with the Ticino-related data-a-thon this April. I can share the password with those among you who have established social media competence including the staff of Wikimedia CH. How do you feel about it? I am open for every scenario. Alexmar983 (talk) 00:56, 27 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Alexmar983: fine by me, although I'm barely active on any of those social medias. It might be worth discussing it first with Wikimedia CH, notably for the use of English as a default language ; they might have communication strategies on which it would be desirable to be aligned. --Jahl de Vautban (talk) 19:16, 29 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
Jahl de Vautban I sent a message to Ilario before here... since there is no reply, I'd go for it. Honestly, community social media exist outside of chapter or UG in many cases. That's usually because they are language-based, that is what made me slower than other times to create this trifecta... Sometimes I think I should have done it even years ago with the other ones. We need some dedicated channel, Wikidata is a very focused topic with a specific set of potential stakeholders, you can't inform properly mixing up content with the general communication of the chapter. All those tweets I did with my personal account, I should have given to a dedicated account buildng up its reputation. The chapter will have another tool to use.--Alexmar983 (talk) 22:26, 29 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

I spoke with Ilario again and we are probably going to create them. The Facebook account is actually already there but it’s currently inactive. It will take some work to get it up and running, but it will be worth it as it will help me keep track of the researchers' project and create better engagement. This will make the outreach more effective. --Alessandro Marchetti (WMCH) (talk) 17:46, 2 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Competition edit

Notified participants of WikiProject Switzerland The edit-a-thon of April organized by the Italian-speaking Wikidata GWMAB group is now running, with the financial help of WMCH.

Description is in Italian but it's quite linear, there are queries of researchers in Tessin/Ticino and we welcome users to refine them. If you want to join, please use the link to the dashboard.. Thank you all. Alessandro Marchetti (WMCH) (talk) 17:52, 2 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Gurisee edit

Hallo Zusammen! LG --Spucky123r (talk) 16:21, 18 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Part of "list of cultural properties in Lugano" edit

Hello, I see that there are some items with the property part of (P361) set with list of cultural properties in Lugano (Q14540715). I think that from a logical point of view the right property would be heritage designation (P1435) or something similar, as I don't think the meaning of part of (P361) is "included into a list". What do you think? @AnBuKu: Ferdi2005[Mail] 11:31, 24 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hello Ferdi2005
I agree, that property part of (P361) is not the one and only solution. It simply served in order to render as well in the infobox of Wikimedia (e.g. commons:Category:Cattedrale di San Lorenzo (Lugano) -> Parte di lista dei beni culturali di Lugano). If properties heritage designation (P1435) or list of monuments (P1456) or whatever would render as well in infobox of Wikimedia, fine by me. If they do not render in Wikimedia it's a quite bad, as the user of Wikimedia don't see instantly, to what municipality list the item belongs. :-(
What might be a bit tricky: The are a couple of thousand items de:Wikipedia:WikiProjekt_Schweiz/Kulturgüterschutzinventar (deepl.com is your friend). How to change/update all of them in one go? How to coordinate with people from Wikimedia in order to adapt the infoboxes?
Cheeers & have a nice weekend
For info @M2k~dewiki : AnBuKu (talk) 14:07, 24 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hello @AnBuKu: mass updates could be done using QuickStatements for example:
M2k~dewiki (talk) 14:10, 24 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hello @M2k~dewiki: Thank you for your input. Unfortunately, I do not understand the explanations for QuickStatements, nor am not able to use them. I'm too afraid that I'll break something AnBuKu (talk) 16:00, 26 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
I think that those properties are rendered as well and that we should stick to the meaning of the property anyway, not to what is rendered. Also the infoboxes have specific meaning attached to "part of", so maybe it wouldn't be the right place for that information to be shown. I agree that list of monuments (P1456) would be the most appropriate property for the situation and I think it's well rendered. We could absolutely use QuickStatements. Ferdi2005[Mail] 09:24, 25 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hello @Ferdi2005: For the moment it looks to me, that those properties do not render in Wikimedia Infobox. Compare as an example Stadthaus Winterthur (Q2327288) to commons:Category:Stadthaus Winterthur. Property part of (P361) is rendered, but property appears in the heritage monument list (P2817) is not. But this fact of not rendering a property might be perhaps fixed by a Wikimedia Commons Administrator (@Gestumblindi:)?
As said before, I agree, that a replacement - changing property part of (P361) to property appears in the heritage monument list (P2817) (imho appears in the heritage monument list (P2817) fits better than list of monuments (P1456)) - would make sense. The remaining question is, who can do it and who is willing and has time to do? As mentioned above, I can't do (technically), but I'm willing to assist/support if there are non technical duties to do.
For info @Albinfo:, @Fundriver:
cheeers, AnBuKu (talk) 16:00, 26 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
I agree with the proposed change. Unfortunately, I have no experience with bots. But I assume this should be an easy task: remove property P361 from all items in this list and add property P2817.
You might put a request on Wikidata:Bot requests. Albinfo (talk) 19:14, 26 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hmm... maybe a test with just one municipality in order to check, if it works? And if result is ok, canton by canton? AnBuKu (talk) 19:46, 26 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
Theoretically, there should be no need for a bot. You could prepare the values using Excel, LibreOffice, OpenOffice, etc. for Help:QuickStatements/de
M2k~dewiki (talk) 19:54, 26 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
If I'm not totally wrong it's about a replacement of a statement (rendered in bold letters in Wikimedia infobox), means property part of (P361) is replaced by property appears in the heritage monument list (P2817) and the value (list of cultural properties in <municipality>) will always remain as it is now.
And we are talking of a quantity of several thousand Q items...
Again, as said before, I will not touch that, as I'm afraid, that I will destroy something. Sorry for that. AnBuKu (talk) 20:41, 26 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
I saw this also in heritage-items in the canton of Zurich and assume it is an issue that is present allover switzerland. I guess it could be done with quickstatements, but didn't tried it myself. Where I did it it was with OpenRefine while importing the heritage-items of Winterthur. Fundriver (talk) 11:43, 28 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
