Past patro/matronyms

edit

In certain cultures, patronyms and matronyms used to be common, but aren't anymore. One such culture is the Portuguese, where you see instances of Álvares (Q2605629) → son of Álvaro (Q3576980); Fernandes (Q21510337) → son of Fernando (Q18115751). These are vestigial traces of patronym usage in Portuguese, but nowadays they are not used. The question is, should this property be used in these vestigial cases? ~nmaia d 21:06, 27 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
