Gustaf Wilhelm (Q56525307): male given name: (delete | history | links | entity usage | logs)

Removed from Q4457034, currently unused. It's unclear why this should be a single given name. --- Jura 07:21, 11 September 2018 (UTC)

I restored that, because thats required to get correct categories for the corresponding commons category via commons:Template:Wikidata Infobox. --JuTa (talk) 08:25, 11 September 2018 (UTC)

@JuTa: can provide some reference for this given name and its applicability to this person? If Commons uses some broken algorithm for categories, you need to fix this locally. Please don't merge items or make up names just to match Commons needs. --- Jura 08:47, 11 September 2018 (UTC)
Jura, you wanna have a ref that the given name of this person is Gustaf Wilhelm?? Just look to its wikipedia articles, not just Gustaf and not just Wilhelm. PS: The af is an Nobiliary particle that should not be taken into account for family or surnames. Its the swedish pendent of the english 'of'. regards --JuTa (talk) 17:34, 11 September 2018 (UTC)
Not sure what article you are looking at. If I get the Swedish one correctly, it just lists two given names and seems to contradict you explicitly on the last name (at least after 1805). --- Jura 18:49, 11 September 2018 (UTC)
You doubt that his name isnt Gustaf Wilhelm but Gustaf and Wilhelm seperatly, and he normaly not get called Gustaf Wilhelm but only either Gustaf or Wilhelm? Strange... --JuTa (talk) 18:56, 11 September 2018 (UTC)
We had Swedish editors complaining about this type of combination: Talk:Q20936782. --- Jura 19:07, 11 September 2018 (UTC)
Quote from there: Unless the plan is to create items for all possible name combinations ...
But yes, it is the plan to create all those combinations, or as complete as possible. --JuTa (talk) 22:45, 11 September 2018 (UTC)
We probably understand the unquoted part differently. Maybe it's that the item they mention doesn't have an English label. BTW, there is no such plan. If a person has several names, please add several values to P735. Please stop making up names. We already deleted too many of your creations: Wikidata:Requests_for_deletions/Archive/2018/09/10#Q56545891, Wikidata:Requests_for_deletions/Archive/2018/09/10#Q56528921, Wikidata:Requests_for_deletions/Archive/2018/09/09#Q56529001. --- Jura 05:29, 12 September 2018 (UTC)

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── In this case, its absolutely two names, Gustaf and Wilhelm, contrary to, especially in the past, when some names were a mix of two original names, like Tor and Björn, which sometimes became Torbjörn. But in those cases the two names were written together, or at least with a dash, like Bengt-Olof. Dan Koehl (talk) 15:04, 20 September 2018 (UTC)

Q56228301

surname prefixed with Ó or O (Q56228301) Hi! I deleted this item because it could totally be replaced by this query SELECT ?item ?label WHERE { ?item wdt:P31/wdt:P279* wd:Q101352 ; wdt:P1705 ?label ; FILTER regex (?label, "^(O|Ó)"). }

and seemed then totally out of scope. Jura1 (talkcontribslogs) disagree with me but did not provide any explanation for his need of this item. So since the case is not as obvious as I thought, I ask for fellow advice. Should we restaure this item? Thank you, --Harmonia Amanda (talk) 14:19, 31 August 2018 (UTC)

  • Looks like it's not equivalent: [1]. Some bug in your query?
    --- Jura 15:22, 31 August 2018 (UTC)
    • @Jura1: It is equivalent, if you look at the results it is names with O or O’ instead of O', so just remove the ' and this is exactly equivalent. The query is way better since it give you more results and without the need to add more data into Wikidata. Cdlt, VIGNERON (talk) 13:10, 3 September 2018 (UTC)

  •   Comment As both statements are incorrect ("it could totally be replaced by this query", "it give you more results and without the need to add more data into Wikidata"), I think we can close this as not done: I count 180 items with the item compared to 178 with the query. Furthermore, the query can't find Q36861066, Q37323459, Q37502370, Q37506527, Q42717190, possibly due incorrect query design or a misunderstanding of the Irish prefix in some surnames. The three others are likely items I started fixing since I created the item. Eventually, we might have a better way to include the same information in a better way, but the approach seems reasonable for now. --- Jura 06:15, 5 September 2018 (UTC)
  •   Delete unhelpful and needless --Pasleim (talk) 17:06, 8 September 2018 (UTC)
  •   Keep. No it's not equivalent. This item is intended to capture surnames that got the O from the Irish prefix. There are plenty of other surnames from other languages that begin with O (using the original query) but didn't get the O from the Irish prefix. Deryck Chan (talk) 10:03, 12 September 2018 (UTC)
Added: same problem surname prefixed with Mac or Mc (Q56219051) --Harmonia Amanda (talk) 14:15, 26 September 2018 (UTC)

WTF. If the wikiproject subpage exists as a local maintenance page, there should be no item about it in the main space. If its purpose is encyclopedic content, then it falls out of project scope and should be deleted (along with the item about it). In both case, I think this item should be deleted. -Ash Crow (talk) 00:55, 8 July 2018 (UTC)
Delete I took another look at Wikidata:Notability and still don't think this item should exist, the added Wikidata list is more or less a portal subpage, which is explicitly excluded in Wikidata:Notability, so without any valid sitelink it still should be deleted.--CENNOXX (talk) 12:17, 4 August 2018 (UTC)
Please note that as per InitialiseSettings.php, the Wikidata namespace does have Portal alias, so it's still true that subpages of Wikidata namespace fall under WD:N's disallowable case portal subpage. --36.102.227.16 23:25, 26 December 2018 (UTC)
Interesting. On some virtual level it seems to exits, but it doesn't lead to the page you mention. Portal:Requests for deletions isn't this page either. --- Jura 09:48, 28 December 2018 (UTC)
Delete The Jura1's "restore" should be reverted, they're linking an invalid page. --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 13:49, 11 December 2018 (UTC)
Reverted. --36.102.227.16 23:27, 26 December 2018 (UTC)

Jura, I don’t really like such items with sitelink to Wikidata project namespace. There is no control over how many of such lists we generate, thus someone may create their own “list of Doctor Who serials” and create another item for it. As far as I see, there is (in the current condition) no need to have an item linked to that list, right?
Besides this, if the sitelink should be kept, I think there is some mess to be cleant anyway and this also affects this nominated item. This involves sitelink rearrangements of:

Is this correct, or am I missing something? Who would volunteer to repair this? —MisterSynergy (talk) 21:06, 25 December 2018 (UTC)

  • Wikipedia tends to change their lists and don't update the items they link their lists from. If they have a reference list at Wikidata, it's easier to make sure theirs match the standard one at Wikidata. --- Jura 08:50, 28 December 2018 (UTC)
