BrokenSegue edit
RfP scheduled to end after 27 September 2021 14:36 (UTC)

I've been an active user for over a year now. I'm applying here because I think wikidata needs more administrators and I'm concerned by long backlogs on most requests pages. Requests sometimes sit for days without a response (and RFD is often a disaster). I operate a bot (User:BorkedBot), I am an enwiki admin and I have rollbacker privileges.-- BrokenSegue (talk) 14:36, 20 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

- I have nothing against the user, therefore I will not oppose his/her adminship. Having said that, I observe a disturbing tendency towards having people who are "also" admins -generally, as I may observe, I do not know how to review it one by one- in English, German or French - maybe several other languages also- Wikipedias. This is -if true- conceived by this scribe as "not healthy" if the WMF projects are "universal". If we want a "really universal" Wikidata we should promote people from other languages/cultures to have more buttons here, and probably we should not consider being an admin in other projects as an advantage to also become one here. IMHO, just the opposite. Sorry, I am a bit reluctant towards creating elites... (Repeated clarification: Nothing against the user himself/herself but a more general concern about admins, future or actual.) Best regards. --E4024 (talk) 15:13, 20 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
- I agree that users shouldn't be granted adminship here merely because of their status elsewhere. I mentioned it above just as evidence that I'm not going to "go rogue" and do terrible things once granted adminship here. I think I'm qualified even if I were not an admin elsewhere. I'm basically inactive on enwiki because I spend most of my time here now. BrokenSegue (talk) 16:53, 20 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
- Thanks for the reply but I did not say that "users shouldn't be granted adminship here merely because of their status elsewhere". I said "we should not consider being an admin in other projects as an advantage to also become one here" and a couple of other things, which were more significant than that. Never mind. Welcome, dear future admin. --E4024 (talk) 17:38, 20 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
- I do think we should want to bring the WMF projects closer together, since there are tons of benefits to be gained from collaboration, especially given the upcoming launch of Abstract Wikipedia. Wikipedia admins are influential in driving consensus there, so I think we should want to have more users who are admins of both and thereby invested in the success of both. I'm not quite sure what you mean by we should promote people from other languages/cultures to have more buttons here—are you saying that some Wikidata permissions should be automatically granted to users with permissions on other WMF projects? Apart from that, I also think administrator status at another project is a plus because it's evidence that the candidate is a responsible editor. For this particular case, I don't place too much weight on it because the candidate was promoted in 2005 when standards were very low and (at a quick glance) they don't seem very active at en-WP anymore. However, I still don't see how it could be considered a negative. (Sidenote: Please don't read anything into me commenting but not !voting here. I typically do a lot of research before !voting and just don't have the time for that at this moment.) {{u|Sdkb}} talk 18:43, 20 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
