Wikidata:VIAF/cluster/conflating entities

This page aims to collect all VIAF clusters which conflate entities, in order to have them corrected in the future.

Please do not report clusters which need only to be merged: it is enough to add all the clusters which need to be merged in the corresponding item, then the VIAF will check them and eventually merge them (see this example).

James/Jim Baker

edit
  • VIAF 194965574 conflates 4 authors, James K. Baker (Q96694565), James K. Baker (Q96694711), James Baker (Q88218745), and James K. Baker (Q96694564), thus:
    • NUKAT, NTA, Sudoc, and National Library of Portugal authorities pertain to Q96694565
    • LoC authority pertains to Q96694711 but also associates works by Q96694564
    • National Library of Israel authority has the work of Q96694711 and the birthdate of Q96694565
    • ISNI authority pertains to Q96694564
    • NSK authority pertains to Q88218745
    • Southern Africa in transition is by Q96694565; What about bats? is by Q96694711; Animal health and Approved practices in swine production are by Q96694564
    • Another correction: in the list of Works, "American Society of African Culture" is an organization he worked with, not something he wrote
  • 88131818 conflates James Baker (Q5250220) and James Baker (Q96839936). ISNI, DNB, and NCF pertain to Q5250220‏; LC, J9U, and NUKAT pertain to James Baker (Q96839936); NORAF pertains to Q96839936 (probably, in spite of listing "A Newfoundland ethnicity?" by James Baker (Q96838691) alongside Q96839936's work). Also, the included Wikidata ID is wrong.
  • 104459680 is a record for James Baker (Q5250220), but one of the identifiers is not for him: SUDOC 185640168 pertains to James Baker (Q96839936). SUDOC incorrectly attributes the authorship of a variety of works to that ID: "A Leader of men" is actually by James Baker (Q88218745), "An admonition merry and wise" is by Sir James Baker (Q96794903), and "La Turquie" is by Q5250220.
  • VIAF 95878565 conflates James Baker (Q23978539) and Sir James Baker (Q96794903). LoC and Getty authorities pertain to Q23978539; RERO pertains to Q96794903 but lists works by both authors. In the works section, "A picturesque guide" is by Q23978539, "A letter to a buttonian k***" is by Q96794903.
  • VIAF 86149066535765601258 is for James B. Baker (Q96925509) but includes the wikidata id for James B. Baker (Q60438918).
  • VIAF 125399242 is for James B. Baker (Q60438918) but includes the wikidata id for James B. Baker (Q96925509).
  • VIAF 77685998 conflates James Hutchins Baker (Q60794844) and James H. Baker (Q96994738). Sudoc authority pertains to Q60794844, J9U and LoC to Q96994738, ISNI to Q96994738 but listing works by both. Works: "The manual of the curriculum improvement process" is by Q96994738, the other four by Q60794844.
  • VIAF 33996311 has imported erroneous information from Library of Congress authority no00014950 (repeated in turn by ISNI). This is not a person named James A. Baker, but rather the James A. Baker Institute for Animal Health, corporate author of "Fleas and Ticks." The other two works in the Works section are not by this author: "The Shooting of the President" is by James Baker (Q223151), "Methods of retaining ..." is by an unidentified James A. Baker.
  • VIAF 250349994 Everything in this record pertains to James Gilbert Baker (Q337213) except that the LoC authority and its associated work "Public and community psychiatry" pertain to James G. Baker (Q96936785); the LoC record is associated also, erroneously, with a work by Q337213.
  • VIAF 65736692 is mostly a record for James M. Baker (Q1598583) (1942-, author of "The genuine American music") but contains errors: although the PLWABN record has the birthdate 1942, the work it lists is "Music theory in concept and practice" by James M. Baker (Q96843779) (1948-). The ISNI record seems to be for Q1598583 but listing works by both authors.
  • VIAF 42049064 This record conflates James W. Baker (Q97009736) and Jay W. Baker (Q18684454); also there is a further error in the DNB authority record.
    • The LoC authority pertains to Q97009736, who wrote "Illusions illustrated" and the "Holiday magic books" series.
    • DNB gives the birth date of Q97009736; its description of the author includes the phrases "Foreign Service officer with U.S. International Communication Agency" which describes Q97009736 and "schreibt über Thanksgiving Day" which describes James W. Baker (Q97009609).
    • The BNF and ISNI authorities pertains to Q18684454, an actor in the movie "April Fool's Day"/"Weekend de terreur." ISNI is given the name "Baker, James W.‏" in VIAF.
  • VIAF 79176725 conflates Jim Baker (Q97159333) and Jim Baker (Q17352688), with some additional unrelated titles among the works.
    • ISNI 0000 0000 5787 7875 pertains to Q97159333; works are "Comparative labour law" and "The International Trade Union Movement" by Q97159333, and "Definitive guide to Jython" by Jim Baker (Q97585655).
    • LC, NTA, J9U, RERO, NUKAT pertain to labor organizer Q97159333.
    • BNF, GND, BIBSYS, Norway pertain to the pianist Q17352688.
    • SUDOC also pertains to Q17352688, with additional wrong works. "Interkosmos," "Material," and "Treatise" are by him; "The Motown song book" and "More than friends" are by Jim Baker (Q97118122); "Speech recognition" is by Q6137041.
    • VIAF works: "Comparative labour law and industrial relations" and "Dwadzieścia pięć lat o edukacji i demokracji" by Q97159333; "Bill Dixon with Exploding Star Orchestra," "Four images of wank," and "Interkosmos" by Q17352688; "Breaking away," "Every little bit hurts," "How sweet it is," and "I need your lovin" by Q97118122; "Crossroads" by Q97113504.
  • VIAF 105739875 brings together a diverse lot of works by not-well-identified authors named James Baker. To wit: CAOONL mentions no information about the (supposed) author, but lists three works, "Provincial ecological land classification program prospectus" by James A. Baker (Q96781284)/VIAF 104621237, "Okanagan geology" by James Baker (Q96793324), and "The ethics of biotechnology" by James R. Baker Jr. (Q87807800). BIBSYS likewise gives no author information, and lists "Provincial ecological land classification program prospectus" together with "Kettle broth to gooseberry fool" which is by James Baker (Q96780458).
Has unrelated works

Some of the titles listed in the "Works" section are not by this James Baker.

Best that I can sort it out at the minute.  — billinghurst sDrewth 04:38, 15 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

and this Thomas Hutchinson (Q52222331) is just a real problem. It is the dates of the brother-in-law of Wordsworth, and definitely not the author of the attributed works. It seems to have come from VIAF and then been polluted by us based solely on the dates of life.  — billinghurst sDrewth 05:02, 15 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
