rallying team

edit

Against the documentation and constraints, this property is also used on items about rallying teams. Should we accept that or remove these claims? --Pasleim (talk) 10:59, 16 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

@Pasleim: Do you have an example? Yellowcard (talk) 11:41, 16 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
Hyundai Motorsport #4 (Q23012234), Volkswagen Motorsport #2 (Q23012220) --Pasleim (talk) 12:36, 16 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
The label and description of the property doesn't fit for that use. Besides that, I don't see any disadvantages. But maybe it would be reasonable to create a new property for rallying teams and add a clearer label and description, then? Yellowcard (talk) 13:09, 16 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Specifying team by using a qualifier

edit

With respect to sports players, the jersey number of a player is always linked to the team the player is currently part of. Therefore, I suggest to add the specific team by using a qualifier. of (P642) seems to be a good property to do so. Any comments on this suggestion? Yellowcard (talk) 11:43, 16 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

It would look like this, then. Yellowcard (talk) 11:45, 16 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
I don't understand what you want. When the number of a player is linked to a team, we already used of (P642). When this property wasn't used like that (for example, I use P1618 as a qualifier of the musher on sled dog races items), well we didn't. We can't add the use of of (P642) as a constraint because there are many legitimate uses of P1618 where of (P642) can't be used. But yes, of course, if you need to precise the team, by all means, do it. --Harmonia Amanda (talk) 17:28, 16 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
@Harmonia Amanda: You obviously did understand what I want. :) I just wasn't aware of the fact that it is already be done that way. Thanks for your reply. Yellowcard (talk) 19:07, 16 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Planned deprecation of of (P642)

edit

This property currently requires the qualifier of (P642), specifying the team or club to which a jersey number applies. As work is underway to deprecate of (P642), I propose that for this use, it be replaced with affiliation (P1416). Can anyone think of a more appropriate alternative property? Thanks, that is better. Swpb (talk) 14:24, 10 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
