Logo on Wikipedias

edit

Are we not suppose to put the interwiki links of the non-free files on WD? If it is allowed, do we need a new items type property for logos like Q11213018 (logo of Q192452)--L!tt|e+ung?\2o/3=] 02:52, 26 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Logo as Item

edit

Is there already a way (another property) to set items as values for "logo"? For example Linux (Q388) could set the item Tux (Q131200) as Logo too, instead of only a file on Commons. At least this problem isn't new, but maybe I've misses something.

Constraint:Type with class Q43229 (Organisation)

edit

Above there is set a Constraint:Type with the class organization (Q43229). It says that logo image (P154) can or should only be used when the item is an instance of organization (Q43229) (or an subclass of this). But at least that is wrong. Also software, products, websites, sport clubs or whatever can have an logo. So we should remove that constraint completely, as I think it's not possible or not useful to catch all variations.
Best regards, --#Reaper (talk) 12:48, 23 December 2014 (UTC) (Please ping me an answers.)Reply

Agreed. I removed constraint on type "organization (Q43229), product (Q2424752), trademark (Q167270)", 80% violations according to the last violations report considering it. -- LaddΩ chat ;) 15:08, 20 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Unique value constraint

edit

I don't think this property should have a unique value constraint. If you look at the violations you can see that the same logo can be used by multiple entities, for example subsidiaries or successor organizations. I suggest to remove this constraint. --Srittau (talk) 02:52, 31 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

png or svg for Wikimedia sites?

edit

We have consensus on official website (P856) that must be https://(code).(wikiproject).org/, but how about logos? I can't see any consensus here. --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 04:05, 3 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

Property to know wether the logo include the name or not

edit

Some logos include the name of the trademark, other not. It would be nice to have a property to tell whether or not the logo includes this text. What do you think? Romain2boss (talk) 22:25, 14 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

Allowed qualifiers constraint

edit

In an effort to add a little bit of order and consistency, I've added a allowed qualifiers constraint (Q21510851) to this property. I've included every property I can think of that makes sense to use with this, but it's likely I missed some (the SPARQL query to view violations of this constraint times out, even with LIMIT 100). I haven't made it a mandatory constraint (Q21502408), though perhaps that should eventually be done once the list of allowed qualifiers is nailed down. –IagoQnsi (talk) 21:25, 17 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

Would you consider allowing described at URL (P973)? It would link to an organization's logo description and branding guidelines. Senator2029 11:21, 10 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

Logos with non CC license

edit

The current Datatype "Commons media file" restricts this property to Logos with CC license. Therefore e.g. only 15% of all universities have a logo property at this time. For an institution such as L3S with the logo readily available at:

https://www.l3s.de/sites/default/files/L3S_Logo_2013_rgb_400x400.png The logo information may not be added to wikidata for this restriction. I'd love to see the datatype be relaxed and instead a logo_license additional information be enforced so that URLs may only be added when including the license information. "Fair use" is quite common for such logo licenses and some commercial organizations will put other restrictions on how to use the logo put readily describe these rules under a page reachable via an URL.

see e.g. https://www.ibm.com/legal/copytrade and https://www.ibm.com/brand/experience-guides/developer/brand/logo/ The https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:IBM_logo.svg statement This logo image consists only of simple geometric shapes or text. It does not meet the threshold of originality needed for copyright protection, and is therefore in the public domain. is IMHO a bit bold and not applicable for most logo license situations and only being able reference logo images under such circumstances does IMHO limit the capabilities of wikidata in supplying metadata too much.

Do i have to start a property proposal for this or has there been a past discussion on this issue that i have missed?

A general logo URL property as subproperty of logo image (P154) and non-free artwork image URL (P6500) would be useful indeed. I'd object a property restricted to specific subjects such as podcast logo URL (P10286). We could extend the latter instead, so no new property has to be created. -- JakobVoss (talk) 06:52, 20 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
What needs to be done to get this general logo URL prroperty? Is a simple rename of podcast logo URL and changing the settings for that propery sufficient? WolfgangFahl (talk) 06:32, 1 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
If it were up to me the solution would be to migrate away from the specific properties like podcast logo URL (P10286) and instead use non-free artwork image URL (P6500) for this use. So I am in total agreement with Jakob. Fox (talk) 08:52, 19 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
