Wrongly deleted items?

Can an admin please check Wat Don Makok (Q18390138) and Wat Nong Mongkhon (Q18342427)? They were deleted as being empty, but they still show up in the resonator page for Category:Buddhist temples in Prachuap Khiri Khan (Q10137985) - but that would mean they were not empty, but contained at least the two statements for their location and their instance type. I did add a lot of items for newly created articles on the Thai Wikipedia and filled them with statements as they are notable enough, so I wonder why such an item gets deleted only because the article on the Thai Wikipedia gets deleted for other reasons. Ahoerstemeier (talk) 08:48, 3 November 2014 (UTC)

Restored both. Nikosguard talk 06:38, 4 November 2014 (UTC)
Thanks. How to prevent this from happening in future? They were really wrongly deleted as they are not empty at all - it was pure fluke that I noticed them in resonator, otherwise these valid items would be lost and the work to fill in the statements would have be in vain. Ahoerstemeier (talk) 09:27, 4 November 2014 (UTC)
Try adding links to the item on other items, so it will be getting incoming links. Sjoerd de Bruin (talk) 11:45, 4 November 2014 (UTC)
They had a link to Wikipedia, however the page was deleted. Shouldn't admins know that items with several statements need much more thought to delete than the empty ones on User:Pasleim/notability?. Ahoerstemeier (talk) 13:29, 4 November 2014 (UTC)
Sjoerddebruin meant links from within Wikidata. There are hundreds of items deleted every day, it's impossible to create a failsafe system who prevents admins from making mistakes. Since looking for internal links is one of the basic things to look for as an admin, it's a good way to create such to prevent it from happen again. -- Innocent bystander (talk) 15:24, 4 November 2014 (UTC)

Merge was valid, 2 items merged in the item with the lowest QID. If you undone my action, then delete second item (Q2539922). It's no reason to keep empty item. (more details: Even on rowiki we will not have an article about this village. Articles about village and about commune was merged in one single page because commune is formed from a single one village.) --XXN (talk) 16:53, 5 November 2014 (UTC)
Most communes in Romania are formed by multiple villages. For data consistency it makes therefore sense to have always a separate item for village and commune. Moreover, village and commune have different SIRUTA code which is difficult to present in a single item. --Pasleim (talk) 18:14, 5 November 2014 (UTC)

GerardM's errors are seriously undermining Wikidata credibility

Today at cs.wiki we decided to shut down taking P27 property from Wikidata due to numerous errors produced by GerardM's scripts. Albeit the erroneous claims aren't new, they are still numerous and uncorrected. We are now considering to take sourced items only (if possible).

I'am aware about this ANI discussion, which ended rather unconvincingly.

I would like to know if something was done since:

  1. Did GerardM develop/incorporated some protocols to reduce the number of errors?
  2. Is he generating some backup files/dumps in order to find and fix errors when found/pointed out?
  3. Did GerardM something to find and fix his past errors?

You need to know that his errors are seriously undermining Wikidata credibility.

Many thanks. --Vachovec1 (talk) 23:48, 5 November 2014 (UTC)

If Wikidata ever needs an Arbitration Committee, this sort of thing will be why. --Rschen7754 02:29, 6 November 2014 (UTC)
I'm sure the Wikipedias' and other wikiprojects' users don't care if Wikidata has or has not an Arbitration Committee, but they do care if the're getting unreliable, misleading or erroneus data. Especially in properties denoting sensitive information and especially in cases of living people active in the public...--Shlomo (talk) 06:07, 7 November 2014 (UTC)
@Vachovec1:
  1. According to GerardM's own statement he stopped using at least one of the most problematic methods. And it seems to have decreased the error rate of his edits significantly. The earlier errors stay, though...
  2. He probably doesn't and if he does, he's not very helpful to use them or share them when asked to.
  3. Not in the cases I brought forward or engaged the discussion about. I can't say about all his errors though...--Shlomo (talk) 06:07, 7 November 2014 (UTC)

recurring vandalism

Faye Wong (Q464650) has been getting vandalized every day at about the same time, mostly by the same IP (the other one is very, very close, though). Rezabot et al.

10.68.16.33 and 10.68.17.61, better known as Rezabot (talkcontribslogs), have just a while ago (while nobody was watching, apparently) added thousands(?) of duplicate references. In between those edits, there is the daily assault of vandalism like this which will disappear from RecentChanges in about 12 hours and thence become extremely difficult to find. I'm sure there is more that nobody has reverted yet. Could somebody please mass-revert the contributions by these IPs, both because they're all bogus, and they have flooded RecentChanges.

Related issue number two: Rezabot has also been adding lots of qualifiers of things to themselves, for example qualifing "occupation:novelist" as "occupation:novelist" in Q5715048. I have noticed other minor mistakes too, which are not serious by themselves but confirm a certain pattern. People who are mistaken for absolute beginners should probably not be operating bots. --Haplology (talk) 04:16, 11 November 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for the notification. It looks like Rezabot is fixing its mistakes. But I will keep an eye it. --Pasleim (talk) 08:41, 11 November 2014 (UTC)

@GPHemsley: you made the mistakes. And please give difflinks, if you arguing here. --Succu (talk) 16:53, 15 November 2014 (UTC)
There are a lot of pages and edits involved. They're the most recent history on the three pages under discussion. Can you please elaborate as to what my "mistakes" were? — GPHemsley (talk) 17:04, 15 November 2014 (UTC)
There are three items involved. You are accusing Brya of edit warring, so you should give some evidence. And you should notify Brya of this thread. --Succu (talk) 17:17, 15 November 2014 (UTC)
As far as I can see, your use of instance of (P31) and subclass of (P279) is wrong. For P31 the most generic instance should be chosen, being that the three items are about a taxon (Q16521). For taxa we have the more specific taxon rank (P105) and parent taxon (P171) to give position in the tree of life as well as the taxon one position higher. This allows us (and Wikipedia's in their taxobox) to find all higher taxa in the tree of life. Therefore P279 is really less suitable. Descriptions are not meant to be article abstracts, what you seem to make of it. My conclusion is that Brya's reverting actions were rightfully so. In addition she did a good job in explaining. -- Lymantria (talk) 18:12, 15 November 2014 (UTC)

User keeps merging items about an event (murder of Kitty Genovese (Q18341392)) with a person (Kitty Genovese (Q238128)), even after being asked not to do that. Can another admin please have a look at this? Multichill (talk) 20:56, 24 November 2014 (UTC)

Looking forward to the discussion. Inwind (talk) 21:14, 24 November 2014 (UTC)
@Inwind, Multichill:Zolo (talk) 10:04, 26 November 2014 (UTC), we certainly need two items (one for the murder, one for the person), but I have to agree this is a bit problematic for the sitelinks. Articles that are called "murder of Kitty Genovese" do not appear to be significantly more focused on the murder than those called simply "Kitty Genovese". Apart from renaming the Wikipedia articles, I do not see any really satisfying solution. --Zolo (talk) 10:04, 26 November 2014 (UTC)
I'd recommend to look not only on the name of the Wikipedia article, but to take it's content in account as well. In this specific case I'd agree with concentrating the articles in the event item (murder of Kitty Genovese (Q18341392)), even without renaming the articles on Wikipedias (we can't force them to do it, anyway). I can't check all the articles connected with the person item, but since the person is notable only because of the event (and this fact is hardly going to change in the future), I suppose there is not and will not be any article dealing mainly with the life/work of the person and not with her murder. Of course we can keep the person data item as well, if we need it for structural purposes (e.g. to store the date/place of birth/death a.s.o.)--Shlomo (talk) 08:40, 27 November 2014 (UTC)

This is simply another incarnation of the Bonnie and Clyde problem (and a frequent one to, as esepecially the English Wikipedia prefers to have "murder of x" articles instead of "x" articles, while most others usually just have an "x" article. In my opinion, we need to have two items, because "murder of x" simply isn't a person, period. And in order to have a sane interwiki linking, Wikidata needs to properly support redirects s sitelinks, so all Wikipedias having a "murder of x" article could have an "x" redirect to that article, that could be used as a sitelink in the "x" item, and vice versa. In the wikis' "In other languages" section these redirects should be displayed maybe in italics or with an icon, so I can see "oh, if I follow that link, I won't get an article exactly on this topic, but to one that's closely related. So I likely will get the same information there, while the interwiki link presented there might not bring me to the article I originally came from.". @Lydia Pintscher (WMDE):: Are there any plans about this? --YMS (talk) 09:28, 27 November 2014 (UTC)
