Wikidata:WikiProject Visual arts
By now Wikidata:WikiProject sum of all paintings is much bigger in participants and content and activity has shifted from here to there. For the visual arts field, it hosts most the of maintenance and import work among other things. Here most of the ontological considerations take place, though.
The ontology or modelling guidelines for works of visual art, creators, organizations and more can be found at Wikidata:WikiProject Visual arts/Item structure. The page is somewhat chaotic, sorry!
Goals
edit- Centralize discussions about best practices, notability rules, GLAM partnerships, import tools
- Map templates in Template:Infobox artwork (Q6064255), especially Commons:Template:Artwork onto Wikidata properties
Some interesting resources
edit- CDWA (cf. Categories for the Description of Works of Art (Q5051819))
- CCO (cf. w:Visual Resources Association#Cataloguing Cultural Objects (CCO))
- CCO is a content standard, i.e. it describes how a work of art should be described, regardless of specific metadata schema or ontology. Its most valuable resource are the host of excellent examples that are included. Got it as single PDF if you want it --Vladimir Alexiev (talk) 10:06, 7 March 2017 (UTC)
- Getty training:
- Introduction and Application of Cataloging Cultural Objects (CCO) and Categories for the Description of Works of Art (CDWA) (PDF, 9.7 MB, 157pp)
- Subject Access to Art Works: Using CCO, CDWA, and Vocabularies (PDF, 5.4 MB, 73pp)
- In-Depth Look at Applying CCO and CDWA for Manuscripts, Prints, Drawings, and Rare Books (PDF, 7.6 MB, 120pp)
- Cataloging for the Museum: CCO, CDWA, and CDWA Lite for Cataloging Museum Objects (PDF, 5.3 MB, 78pp)
- CIDOC CRM (Chinese, German and Greek translations; cf. CIDOC Conceptual Reference Model (Q624005))
- AAT (cf. Art & Architecture Thesaurus (Q611299))
