  Keep wikidata notability is much different from Wikipedia, and wikidata only cares that it exists, not that it is widespread, not a hoax, so we ask for outside links to show he is real. This is one of the many many many scientists on Wikidata who've been imported from the ORCID database.   • Not the same at all, as I found out when I grabbed the wrong one from the shelf at the store and only discovered when I opened it. Part of the problem is that the entry for condensed milk appears to show the image for the brown sweetened condensed milk, as sugars get heated they caramelize and turn brown, like a caramel candy. --RAN (talk) 00:55, 6 March 2021 (UTC)

Bulk deletion request - articles from Benezit and Electronic Enlightenment and Grove Art Online

I've recently found this bunch of items, recently created by @LargeDatasetBot: operated by @GZWDer:, consisting of instance of (P31)encyclopedia article (Q13433827) + title (P1476) + publication date (P577) + DOI (P356). In some cases they have no incoming links (e.g. Alberghetti, Antonio (Q103892852)), in some other cases the only incoming link is from the subject of the article (e.g. Checa y Sanz, Ulpiano (Q104020935)) through the qualifier statement is subject of (P805) applied to described by source (P1343)Benezit Dictionary of Artists (Q2929945). Since we have Benezit ID (P2843) representing the relationship between the subjects of the articles of Benezit Dictionary of Artists (Q2929945) and the articles themselves (the DOI in the article-item exactly corresponds to the formatter URL+ID of the identifier property), the statement described by source (P1343) should be removed from subject items (see this discussion), thus leaving all the article-items with no incoming links and, in my opinion, substantially useless replications of the values of Benezit ID (P2843). The title (P1476) may be transferred to a subject named as (P1810) qualifier of Benezit ID (P2843); for the rest, I think the items can be deleted. --Epìdosis 16:39, 15 December 2020 (UTC)

@Epìdosis: An article is itself a topic. The intentional usage of these items is not as value or qualifier of described by source (P1343); The article items should be linked from subject using statement is subject of (P805) (as a qualifier of Benezit ID (P2843) (see Q2627916#P2843). These items can be used in w:Template:Cite Q; they have citation themselves; and they can be cited by other works. @GZWDer: Thank you very much for your explanations, I understand them but I don't fully agree. Specifically: I agree very much about using statement is subject of (P805) as qualifier of Benezit ID (P2843) instead of as qualifier of described by source (P1343)Benezit Dictionary of Artists (Q2929945), surely it should be so (if these items are kept); and I agree about Mix'n'match being not so stable (however, once the ID is added to the item, I would consider it stable). I still don't understand the necessity of items per se: all the information they contain can be stored as qualifiers, this can be said for author (P50) and publication date (P577) (e.g. Q44233#P4223) and also for DOI (P356) (e.g. Q5454#P6194). I recognize that the usage with w:Template:Cite Q can somehow justify them, but I'm not sure it can be enough; WD:N doesn't clearly admit the existence of such items, with the obvious exception of articles present in one Wikisource. I think the problem is worth some thought, in order to take a clear decision and if necessary edit WD:N as a consequence, so I ping the project Source MetaData for further discussion, here or in their talk page as they prefer. --Epìdosis 20:28, 16 December 2020 (UTC)

  • I don't think there is a need for these for the formats of Help:Sources and I don't see another usecase. If we had copies of the articles at Wikisource, the items were helpful, but this mainly as Wikisource's metadata is still at Wikidata. --- Jura 11:08, 17 December 2020 (UTC)

  • I am for keeping them, it would be better if the description said "encyclopedia article", so fewer people would try and merge them in the future, and not confuse them with the human entry. If these were from an online database there would be not doubt that they would exists as an Identifier.
