@Footlessmouse: I (and I'm sure other admins) will have to agree that what Succu did is right; we do not conflate works (i.e. individual literary compositions) with editions (i.e. things containing those compositions which are assigned ISBNs and the like), and your outbursts on Succu's talk page were not particularly helpful. So I guess I got banned from the main space while I was in the middle of adding information for books. I can't believe any of this, I think my outbursts there were justified given their behavior. I have never done anything intertidally disruptive on the mainspace of any Wiki, and I didn't do anything wrong in the mainspace here, but I am now banned... @Footlessmouse: For the record, this is not a ban, as the block I put in place is not enforcing some other formal sanction and the block itself is temporary. As our requests to you to read the appropriate WikiProject page are trying to indicate, your modeling in the mainspace here was in fact wrong. (We can argue at length about whether tens of ISBNs on a single item is sufficiently "disruptive" to Wikidata's collection of items about books and their editions later.) Visite fortuitement prolongée POV-pushing

User:Visite fortuitement prolongée is going around making tendentious edits such as adding attributes like "far right" or "conspiracy theorist" to people who are not generally accepted to be such. Examples: [3] [4] [5]

This person has also created items like far-right concept so they can go around tagging other items with it. A case in point is "political correctness", no doubt a term used by some on the far right but hardly exclusive to it, tagged by the user as a far-right concept. Some items created are not really useful to the project but are used to push a point of view, such as Q93434384, apparently created by the user to label the sometimes-encountered claim that fascism is a left-wing ideology as a conspiracy theory. There may well be something like truth to that claim (though it seems to me to miss the meaning of conspiracy theory), but this kind of vague labelling seems to be not really what Wikidata is for.

There is unfortunately a long history of these edits to trawl through, many of them made to French personalities, and judging by a brief sampling many of the people labelled as far-right or as espousing certain ideologies by this user, such as claims that they support the 'Eurabia' conspiracy theory sourced to largely irrelevant quotes, might have a case for defamation if they found out we describe them this way. This user apparently *only* edits via App to edit (mostly Italian) descriptions. Maybe a glitch in the app, rather than bad faith? I've seen this from other app users as well quite often. —MisterSynergy (talk) 22:59, 9 November 2020 (UTC)
@MisterSynergy: The only thing I can say is that even if the user's edits weren't in bad faith, then how to explain why here for example he intentionally changes lowercase letter to uppercase without changing the description (also here, here and here). In addition, after several warnings user didn't react in any way and continued to replace lowercase letters with uppercase letters in the description. Among other things, the user was also indefinitely blocked on the Italian Wikipedia for vandalism and for entering false information, so yeah unfortunately I don't think it was an glitch of application, although I am aware that something is wrong with the #suggestededit-add 1.0 tool which needs to be fixed, since it's often used as a tool for vandalism abuse, incorrect descriptions and capitalization as in our case. Several other users of the suggested-edit function do exactly the same, so I think we should consider the possibility that the app for some reason capitalizes the description without the user realizing what's going on. I also note that in that discussion, another editor pointed out "It seems that the two editors in question, User:Aditya Kabir and User:Moheen have been involved in a bit of an edit war and a content dispute of some sort at en:Nurul Alam Atique... I have a feeling that the current WP:AN thread originates from that dispute.".

Well the CU case seems pretty useless, as so many others. Assistance needed in undeleting name-suggestion-index related items

Hey Admins, can you please assist in undeleting the following items.

We are tracking them in the Name Suggestion Index project. The items in NSI are generally retail chains, health clinics, transit systems, or other points of interest which are found in OpenStreetMap. These are entities which exist in the real world more than 50 times (read: notable).

Take "Neethi Medical Store" for example. At the time of this writing there are 77 of them throughout the Indian state of Kerala. They are important health centers in local communities and we'd like them all mapped on OpenStreetMap. They are not spam.

If a Wikidata item has a NSI Identifier claim (P8253), we'd prefer a bit more notice before they disappear. I try to encourage people from our project to improve the completeness of Wikidata pages and Wikipedia articles, but we can't do this if pages just disappear without notice. If an entity appears in our index because people are adding lots of that thing to OpenStreetMap, I consider it a strong signal that it is worth having a Wikipedia page written about it.

I undeleted all of them. However, only five out of them have a OSM Name Suggestion Index ID (P8253) claim, and the others look like the spam we see here all the time. Assistance needed in undeleting name-suggestion-index related items

Hey Admins, can you please assist in undeleting the following items.

We are tracking them in the Name Suggestion Index project. The items in NSI are generally retail chains, health clinics, transit systems, or other points of interest which are found in OpenStreetMap. These are entities which exist in the real world more than 50 times (read: notable).

If a Wikidata item has a NSI Identifier claim (P8253), we'd prefer a bit more notice before they disappear. I try to encourage people from our project to improve the completeness of Wikidata pages and Wikipedia articles, but we can't do this if pages just disappear without notice. If an entity appears in our index because people are adding lots of that thing to OpenStreetMap, I consider it a strong signal that it is worth having a Wikipedia page written about it.

@Bhousel @BrokenSegue @Bovlb: Hello everyone, I requested the deletion, because none of the criteria that are set in Wikidata:Notability was met. In another words, none of those items had any external reference (not counting their FB ID and official website claim). To me, creation of those items seemed like an attempt to promote, so I requested the deletion. I can (personally) remember that a NSI identifier is enough, however, none of those items even had it (in the WD item itself). It's possible that the NSI ID was assigned, however, I don't think it's fair to expect deletion requestors to check all the individual databases.

@Bhousel: OK. I have undeleted those five items, and added NSI IDs for each of them. That does not guarantee they will not be deleted again in future, but the additional identifier should help. You should consider automating a check that items with a Wikidata id in your database also have an NSI ID in ours to avoid (or reduce) future problems. Hey @Martin Urbanec, @Bovlb, thanks for the explanation and help! I do encourage you to check out the NSI project GitHub or the browsable index at https://nsi.guide. NSI identifiers are assigned by a script in our project and pushed to Wikidata by a script maybe a few times a week, so there is potential for time gaps between when a page is created, when someone adds the new QID to our project, and when our sync script adds the OSM Name Suggestion Index ID (P8253) claim on Wikidata. I would like to educate our contributors on how better to supply references for the edits that they are making.
Our current numbers look like this:
brands/* completeness:
7575 total
6847 (90.4%) with a 'brand:wikidata' tag
operators/* completeness:
1197 total
500 (41.8%) with a 'operator:wikidata' tag
transit/* completeness:
1837 total
549 (29.9%) with a 'network:wikidata' tag

  Not done @Rockpeterson: those edits all seem valid and all originate from 2600:1700:3fb0:3ff0::/64 which corresponds to one connection. When it comes to ipv6 /64 is about the minimum that gets assigned to one residential connection and the recommendation is to assign a /48 (which for example I have for my home connection). Within the /64 the address constantly changes, see https://labs.ripe.net/Members/johanna_ullrich/ipv6-addresses-security-and-privacy . Vandalism by AcerStan 3

AcerStan continues to vandalise descriptions of items that do not correspond to the text in the Wikipedia articles in the same language and this is noticed by readers who reach out with complaints. Their behaviour has already been reported two times (please see here and here), which followed up with a warning on their talk page that this way of contributing may result in a block. Considering that their every single contribution is an instance of such vandalism and is made from a mobile phone, I strongly suspect that this is someone's scrutiny-evading single-purpose sock account, so I would like to request an infinite block that will capture the underlying IP address (Yet the fact that this account is operated from a mobile phone indicates that the user is well aware that the IP address may be blocked and the log-in from different networks is cautiously done.). @Kiril Simeonovski: The three edits reported on 2020-11-20 are bad, but I have looked at some recent edits by this user and do not find that "their every single contribution is an instance of such vandalism". Bovlb, I'll go edit by edit and compare the descriptions with the corresponding articles on the corresponding language (in all cases Macedonian):
You can further check that all of these edits have been changed because they are inconsistent with the opening sentence in the articles on the Macedonian Wikipedia. At first glance, it seems like the user has improved a bunch of items by adding descriptions probably as an attempt to hide the intentionally made mistakes. The main problem is that we started receiving frequent complaints by readers on the Macedonian Wikipedia who have noticed inconsistencies in the description extracted from Wikidata immediately bellow the article's title and its text on the mobile version, so someone has to watch every single edit that this user makes just to make sure that the contents on Wikipedia and Wikidata match. I don't think that people would be happy to do it when there's a much easier solution.--Kiril Simeonovski (talk) 19:52, 29 November 2020 (UTC)
Just to add, as more than 50% of all readers on Macedonian Wikipedia use their mobile phones, this difference between actual article and brief description causes many reactions on social media and even in some media. This causes bad reputation for Wikipedia as a relevant source of information. --Ehrlich91 (talk) 20:04, 29 November 2020 (UTC)
This is not the first time someone makes such changes (this supports my suspicion of sock-puppetry) and the case has even appeared in some Macedonian online media last year (see [32] and [33]). I hope that it won't be allowed the Macedonian Wikipedia community be subject to criticism just because someone operates in the background on another Wikimedia project.--Kiril Simeonovski (talk) 20:13, 29 November 2020 (UTC)
I sympathise with your concerns. Maybe it's the language barrier, but I am having trouble convincing myself that these edits are clear vandalism and not merely misguided but well-intentioned. I am especially concerned that we have made insufficient efforts to engage with the user. I have asked them to join this discussion, but they have not edited since. Request to undelete items created by account Nuxper and deleted on the 22nd of November

I'm contributing to openstreetmap (osm) and when I meet a brand with sufficient notability, I add it to wikidata. These contributions to wikidata have been deleted on the 22nd of October. I understand that's because there's no external link to a reference in the wikidata item. I would have been happy to add such references and still am. For the few items I could remember, I've been able to find one. I would on the same occasion like to know if there's a way to indicate that I've personally seen one of the shop in the center of Lyon and added it to openstreetmap and if that could constitute part of some kind of reference (if needed with the upload of a photo on wikimedia, or other way to indicate it's present in osm) If it can help identifying those deletions, I believe they were done by @DannyS712 and requested by Martin Urbanec on the 22nd of November. --Nuxper (talk) 14:32, 30 November 2020 (UTC)
