Gerrit Besselaar (Q31736779) edit

Hi &beer&love,

With this edit you stated that Gerrit Besselaar's nationality is South African, and surely he has worked in SA for several years. He is however born in the Netherlands, has worked there too for many years and he died there, so I wondered what your source is. Among the identifiers Deutsche Nationalbibliothek connects him with South Africa, without –as far as I can see– making a statement about his nationality. I would prefer to leave his nationality blank, rather than risk to be wrong. What's your opinion? — bertux 22:26, 1 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Enrique Planchart edit

too imprecise birth dates, when explicit day-date is in the article... edit

Hello,

You massively and blindly added thousands of place of birth (P19) -> 20th century to people, without even checking if there was a more precise date in the linked article... this is NOT a good job !! because the tools used to retrieve dates from the articles all ignore items where place of birth (P19) as already been set - thus preventing other contributors to do a better job :(

I don't know what tool you used, but you even did not use the birth date categories on wp articles, that would, at least, have given the year…

Could you please stop it... and preferably review what you did to add the correct date, or remove the imprecise one. --Hsarrazin (talk) 12:46, 20 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Also don't add date of birth (P569) to disambiguation page items like here. Thank you! --Marsupium (talk) 18:31, 27 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
It did expose some wrong sitelink that was moved afterwards. The statement wasn't deleted, though. But a good reason to not pre-filter for stuff like this. Sjoerd de Bruin (talk) 18:41, 27 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

sport competition at a multi-sport event (Q51031626) edit

sport competition at a multi-sport event (Q51031626) is poorly defined. We typically distinguish between competitions and individual events held at a competition, which is not the case for this item. I see that you already brought it to use in both ways. How to address this problem?

We also had a related discussion at Wikidata talk:WikiProject Sports#Multiple sports disciplines. There was no activity recently, but some aspects are still to be discussed. —MisterSynergy (talk) 14:35, 27 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

The problem still exists and it does not help that you add even more problematic subclass and instance relations with value sport competition at a multi-sport event (Q51031626) to other items. This really needs to be discussed before implementation. --MisterSynergy (talk) 19:04, 10 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

Use of ranks edit

At Ottó Koroknyai (Q28722241) you have marked the date of birth 1856 as deprecated. Please note Help:Ranking: “The deprecated rank is used for statements that are known to include errors”. You probably wanted the statement with the (not contradicting) day precision value “13 April 1856” to be the best statement. In this case you should have marked that one as preferred. Participant of Commonwealth Games in Badminton edit

I've seen that you added the property Participant of Commonwealth Games to a lot of badminton players. I tried to add for all games the exact discipline the players participated in. For instance, for Zarinah Abdullah there is already the property Participant of Badminton at the 1998 Commonwealth Games – Women's Singles with the ranking 5. Until 2014, nearly all results are already in this manner available on Wikidata. For me, these exact disciplines and rankings are more useful than the unspecific Participant of Commonwealth Games xxxx. What do you think about this way of result presentation? Is it for you also possible, to add the 2018 results especially for badminton in this way? Florentyna (talk) 14:27, 21 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Recent deaths from Wikipedia edit

Hi &beer&love,

I noticed you added some 500 statements based on the lists with year-precision only, e.g. [2]. Please note that the lists weren't designed to be used that way. Pasleim and myself built the reports to provide an overview and to feed a tool that allows to view Wikipedia articles when adding dates and, if deemed correct, to add the day-precision dates to Wikidata. Hsarrazin, myself and a few others, regularly or occasionally, do add dates. Personally, I would suggest to Pasleim to discontinue the generation of these lists, if they keep being used that way. I will stop creating new items that could appear there.

Date (P585) if P580 edit

Please don't add a field P585 if there is already a P580. A stage race has no "data", it lasts between a start and an end date. Thank you. Psemdel (talk) 20:29, 15 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

It's not really problematic. It helps determine the year this takes place.

Date edit

Hello, help me understand please. What's the rationale in adding "date" if there's already a property:p580 and a property:p582 field filled? -- Blackcat (talk) 21:42, 23 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

Most events don't have them.
--- Jura 06:20, 24 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
Still don't understand (my fault): what date has to do with the start and end date, which are two different things than a generic "date" ? -- Blackcat (talk) 21:52, 2 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
Because a stage race don't have a "date", it is absurd (like "what is the year of the middle age?"). You create bugs in thousand of pages because of your automatism (for example Tour de France 2018) and help nobody. Just add an exception. Psemdel (talk) 20:42, 16 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
I now notice that you make this on all pages concerning all stage races from all time. thank you. Can you please correct it? Psemdel (talk) 20:47, 16 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
And date is not "year". If I have a stage race between the 25 December and the 2 January, which "date" do you add? Up to now we just looked at P580 or P582 and it works perfectly well (and suppose that a stage race don't have a date, and a single day race has one, it was easy). Psemdel (talk) 20:50, 16 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
--&beer&love (talk) 20:56, 16 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
I have done research and there are records with the three dates from minimum 2015. I think it gives problem with the cycling module. --&beer&love (talk) 21:03, 16 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
For the case of the date, we changed the code of our module to adapt to your "idea". Please in the future, try to listen to other user comments before deploying procedure on huge amount of items. Occasionally, I miss some and fix them once someone else noticed it and was so kind to point it out. Normally, I'd thank them. --- Jura 09:50, 10 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Jura1: Ordinarily I’d have no problem doing that, since in other cases the affected user does indicate some remorse or a plan for corrections in whatever venues they can still edit. As a good chunk of this talk page shows, and unless I somehow missed a time period in their edit history in which at least some edits were corrections to some other incident, a lot of people have had their concerns about this user’s edit quality unanswered and unresponded to, and there is certainly no indication of protest or remorse or, really, anything from this user on even this talk page which this user still has the ability to edit under this account (unless, perhaps, this user is also the anonymous Beijinger in the two WD:AN topics mentioning this user). I thus am inclined to keep the block in place unless I receive a response on this talk page, in whatever language this user is most competent in (I suspect that it is not English), expressing remorse and a plan for corrections to each of the incidents on this talk page, including this one, not already addressed. fwiw, I'm with Jura in wanting &b&l to be able to edit, and with Mahir256 in wanting &b&l to communicate with us so that trust can be re-established. So, I hope this whole thing turns out well, but the onus is very much on &b&l to acknowlede the importance of communicating and to undertake to respond to and fix any future issues raised. I've cleared up the immediate issue of this thread; all BBLd items now have the correct gender. --Tagishsimon (talk) 11:38, 10 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hello

I made a charge where I assumed that everyone was male. As I was asked to "Please work out why you did and avoid doing it again." I did a load with proper names to check. It was not loaded full. and I could not finish checking. When I detect an error of this, of another user, I reverse it and correct it, and they thank it.

The question of Stan Lee, I added the date with "https://tools.wmflabs.org/pltools/recentdeaths/" Users deleted the date instead of deprecated it and fix the reference wikipedia. So the addition of the date we did several Users. @ Jura1 fixed "https://www.wikidata.org/w/index.php?title=Q181900&type=revision&diff=705789247&oldid=705788989&diffmode=source" I myself was notified of other hoaxes, and I select "deprecated", but there are users who delete them. In the conversation they explain it.

  • Oddly, some bot accounts didn't get blocked for more than this. I had checked some of the issues I mentioned above and I think &beer&love had fixed some 400 items. Some other issues above are editorial choices which may be worth discussing on users' talk pages, but in general probably not. I agree that some response from &beer&love earlier would have been helpful (in English or Spanish). As for the Lee-question, I think we had sorted it out before the block.

You were asked, &b&l, in this thread, to fix the wrong genders. 38 hours later, despite you doing all sorts of other edits, you had not a) fixed the issues b) given any indication you intended to fix the issues c) given any acknowledgement of the communication. Much the same pattern the last time I spoke to you: no acknowledgment of the communication, no discussion of the issue. In your explanation, above, you continue to fail to acknowledge the importance of responding to communications, continue to fail to make assurances that you will communicate in the future. It's not a big ask: if someone messages you about problems with your work, message them back & discuss it. Will you do that from now on, please? --Tagishsimon (talk) 16:21, 12 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

I don't get it. You have been asked, in one way or another, multiple times, to give an assurance that you will respond to issues raised. You do not respond to that question; you do not give that assurance. You instead post self-exculpatory responses the content of which has nothing to do with the issue at hand: the issue in this thread was about you setting gender incorrectly on 25 records and has nothing to do with given names. Again: it's not a big ask: if someone messages you about problems with your work, message them back & discuss it; will you do that from now on, please? --Tagishsimon (talk) 17:12, 12 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
I was looking for the items (Now I know they were 25 items) that I was wrong. The user asked me to solve it. I thought crossing them with the first names was a way of locating them.
The user asked me to find out why I did it and it was my mistake. Then I tried to solve. I will better manage active participation in the debates. --&beer&love (talk) 18:01, 12 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Bad merging of different cycling team seasons edit

Hello &beer&love

While I was investigating why some Wikipedia articles about bicycle races suddenly didn't worked any more, I found the reason was that you merged two items for different cycling team seasons at July 21. It was Q21011822 (2015 season for Lotto-Soudal women's team) and Q18654923 (2015 season for Lotto-Soudal men's team). I have restored these two items now, but I urge you to be more careful about merging different things in the future. Please also investigate and repair if you have done other similar merges.
Saludo -- HvW (talk) 21:02, 7 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Not humans edit

Quite a lot of items you coded today as humans are not humans; they're murders, or vases, or other stuff. e.g.

I see the same thing, anything with a given name in the label (album title, compound given name, double patronymic surname, etc.) is encoded as a human and given properties for sex/gender, etc. It seems this script you're running is way too broad. Moreover, it keeps re-adding after being corrected, see: https://www.wikidata.org/w/index.php?title=Q61656456&action=history @Tagishsimon: Moebeus (talk) 12:39, 1 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

Petscan has two ways of checking that:

  • "Uses items/prop": "Q5" [4] (not fully reliable)
  • "Search": "haswbstatement:P31=Q5" [5] (possibly some timeout issues if not otherwise limited)

Depending on what I'm doing I use one or the other, or combination. Here is one to find people with the given name "John", but without a P735 statement John.

BTW thanks for all the useful statements you are adding. --- Jura 16:23, 1 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

Unsourced (and incorrect) gender edits edit

I noticed you're mass adding sex or gender (P21) to people. Not sure what approach you're using, but I assume it's the given name. It's probably better to do it in two steps:

If the name is male given name (Q12308941) or female given name (Q11879590) (and not both)

I noticed Jura1 adding quite a few given name (P735). For the second step we might even have a bot running around. Multichill (talk) 10:32, 20 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

  • On project chat, there was some discussion recently about adding P21 based on P735. There are some pitfalls. I think there are few WikiProjects focusing on P21, maybe they could complete them. --- Jura 17:35, 22 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

Copying transcribed cyrillic names edit

Please avoid copying transcribed cyrillic names from one language to another (e.g. from German to Spanish), like you did (twice) here and on a couple of other items. The Spanish transcription of cyrillic script differs from the German one. - Valentina.Anitnelav (talk) 20:49, 25 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hi again. Please put a bit more effort in sorting out labels transcribed from cyrillic script. Excluding persons with native language (P103)/writing system (P282)/subclass of (P279)* Cyrillic script (Q8209) would be a first step. - Valentina.Anitnelav (talk)
I am taking the data from astwiki, and not from dewiki. Hopefully discard by Cyrillic alphabet. --&beer&love (talk) 11:26, 31 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
It does not matter from which language you are taking the data - please exclude persons whose latin labels are very likely transcriptions from the cyrillic alphabet. Spanish has it's own transcription system from cyrillic to latin. Native language (Russian, Ukrainian, Belorussion, Kazakh, etc.) and country of citizenship (Soviet Union, Ukraine, Belorussia, etc.) are good indicators if latin labels are very likely transcriptions. Today I had to undo ca. 250 edits by you on my watchlist, in additions to those I did last week, some of them for the third time (to have some examples: [6], [7], [8]). Those were edits one could have easily avoided. So just please clean your batch from those likely false labels, before you rerun it again. Thank you and regards - Valentina.Anitnelav (talk) 17:00, 31 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
Is there a tool to transcribe from Cyrillic to Spanish? To overwrite the batches. --&beer&love (talk) 20:18, 31 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
I'm not familiar with the Spanish transcription system and how reliably it can be applied with automatic methods. There are also differences in the transcription from different cyrillic alphabets (e.g. the Russian alphabet vs. the Ukrainian one) - at least this is the case in English and German -, so the origin/primary language of a person has to be considered, too. Probably that should be discussed with somebody who is more acquainted. Until then I think it suffices to just leave those labels empty. - Valentina.Anitnelav (talk) 10:26, 1 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
Then we will leave the labels empty. But in a few weeks, we can transfer the problems that have arisen to meet someone more experienced if we can complete labels with transcribed names. --&beer&love (talk) 12:34, 1 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Perfecto.

Yes, its only on the eswiki because the infobox there is connected with the items here, for example: G1 Special, the event of 2018 (G1 Special: San Francisco) in the Fecha it has 2017 instead of the correct one because thats the point in time in the item here.--Bulimaster (talk) 21:35, 19 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

It happens with the singles events and other articles attached to singles items, for example: NJPW Sakura Genesis, Wrestling Dontaku (2019) (the eswiki articles from 2010 to 2019), etc. The problem here is that on the infobox of the articles, in Fecha it only appears the year (because of the point in time on the items here).--Bulimaster (talk) 04:54, 20 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Lordtobi: I think The option is to mark them as obsolete - but not reverse. Obsolete information is marked with this option: this is historical and is not added again.

One question: How do you detect that they are wrong? In case I can process it. --&beer&love (talk) 22:31, 23 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

The best option is usually manual checking. If a company is defunct, its website usually is already defunct or will be shortly. If the website is still active but now displays different content (such as bogus lottery advice), it has been cybersquatted. If your tool can send and process HTTTP requests, you could also check for sites that return 4xx statuses (including primarily 404 Not Found) upon loading and filter them out pre-emptively. For 3xx (redirects) and 1xx (protocol changes), you could process the new target address appropriately. Manually checking a site's health is usually the best choice, though. Lordtobi (talk) 08:14, 24 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
You have done antoher reCh run, causing more dead links to be inserted. Check, for example, this one. The studio used to have its own website but now it is just a redirect to the parent company's website. If you are adding them, please also check (manual checking suffices) and mark them as obsolete, as you said above. Links marked as active are automatically mirrored in company infoboxes on enwiki (as well as other templates and on other projects), which could expose users to threats when a URL has been cybersquatted. Please don't add ambigious birth dates edit

Please don't add birthdates that are too ambigious: no guessing, especially at a scale of a century. These cause problems in places that expect actual date. Ipr1 (talk) 00:49, 26 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Tennis tournament starting dates were (erroneously) filled with end date edit

You filled the property start time (P580) for a lot of tennis tournaments with the ending date. Please correct this. In doing so, please consider that most Wikipedia's take the starting date of the main tournament, not the (earlier) starting date of the qualifying tournament. Pommée (talk) 16:36, 15 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

Ok, thanks for the appreciation. I review it. --&beer&love (talk) 16:48, 15 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Pommée: I think it's all corrected. If you find a case without telling me the qid, to correct similarities.--&beer&love (talk) 23:35, 16 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for your quick reaction. If I find wrong dates, I will tell you on this page. Okay? Kind regards, Pommée (talk) 23:39, 16 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

country (P17) on human (Q5) edit

Hi, you have added a lot of country (P17) on human (Q5). This is not right, you can use country of citizenship (P27) NOT country (P17). If you don’t clean up the mess, other contributors has to put time into it. - Premeditated (talk) 07:02, 20 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

About country of citizenship edit

Hello,
I have seen several edits where you wrote « country of citizenship (P27) = Canadians (Q1196645) » (instead of « country of citizenship (P27) = Canada (Q16) »), for instance : [11], [12]. Why?

Use of competition class (P2094) on tennis event (Q46190676) edit

Please note that competition class (P2094) serves the purpose of distinguishing the wikidata-items with different tennis discipline within the same part of (P361).

Valid values for this property are for instance: women's singles (Q16893403), men's doubles (Q17299700), mixed doubles (Q16629853), boys' singles (Q27907702), girls' doubles (Q27907692), wheelchair tennis women's singles (Q50211929) etcetera.

Especially don't use competition class (P2094)=women's sports (Q920057), as this is too unspecific.

Also don't use competition class (P2094) on items which are a tennis tournament edition (Q47345468), as this property was not designed to be applied to that level of tournament item.

Thank you for complying. Pommée (talk) 20:57, 21 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

Killing people edit

Hello &beer&love,

I've seen quite some contributions from your account. I do appreciate your willingness to help Wikidata, but I doubt if your are really helping us. Information about living people (and their death) is very important information and it should be handled with a lot of care. I think you are to much focused on quantity, whereas Wikidata really needs quality.

As you can see here, you twice killed Massimo Marino (Q19518708). If you took some time to find out why this man is not killed, you would have seen that the Turkish page is about the actor Massimo Marino (Q3851342), who did die at the age of 59. That means the deceased was born around 1960, not in 1954. For 8 months, Wikidata has been spreading the rumour that the Italian cyclist was not amongst us any more, whilst he is alive and kicking.

I have seen more errors like this from your hand and you do not seem to realise how much trouble you give to these people and how harmful this is for Wikidata and other Wiki-projects. Or did you realise it and disappear silently? RonnieV (talk) 12:05, 22 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

I see you still keep getting messages from people who haven't figured out how to set ranks on statements.
Hope you are doing fine ... will be back some time. --- Jura 20:25, 25 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

Marian in Polish edit

Hi! Note that Marian (Q545486) is a male given name in Polish. I noticed that a long time ago you added an incorrect sex or gender (P21) statement to several Polish biographies. This is just a heads up for the future. Best, --MarioGom (talk) 20:37, 30 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

Espainia herrialdea edit

Euskaraz: Ideologia politiko batek ez du herrialderik eta herrialde bat ezarri diozu Euskaltzaletasun ideologia politikoari. Ezabatu egin dut eta espero dut berriro halakorik ez gertatzea ez kategoria horretan ez antzeko kasuetan.

This sort of problem occurs when one messes up character encodings while handling data. I have removed a couple more of those, also by some users who have blindly copied User:&beer&love's mojibake and by User:Hey80'Q who for some reason made some similar edits more recently. —MisterSynergy (talk) 18:58, 17 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

part of (P361) and sports season of league or competition (P3450) edit

Hello! I do not find common sense to have two of the same properties (part of (P361) and sports season of league or competition (P3450)) in elements like 2016 Supercopa Euroamericana (Q25337124). sports season of league or competition (P3450) is already a subproperty of part of (P361) so why do you need to do this duplication? P3450 edit

Your P3450 import is bad, please stop it immediately. Be aware that it triggers Deltabot to make subsequent wrong edits which are really difficult to undo later. —MisterSynergy (talk) 18:58, 8 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

As you are not responsive and the import is still running, I have blocked your account. Please stop the tool in order to get unblocked again. —MisterSynergy (talk) 19:17, 8 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
