infotaula problem edit

Some uses of "infotaula pel·lícula" use "infotaula pel·lícula" (note the two spaces between the words). In this case, Harvest Templates (Q21914398) skips them. Maybe this could be included. Happy New Year.

New Do not merge page edit

User:Movses has created a new Do not merge page (Wikidata:Do_not_merge/6). The fifth page isn't as big as some of the others, but I'm using the new one as the fifth one is giving a weird error if I try to add anything. Silverfish (talk) 16:24, 1 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

I am also facing this error with last Google Chrome (v. 47.0.2526.106) and that's why have created the page. Pasleim, please note if I need to do something more this page should takes into account by your and Ivan Krestinin's scripts. --Movses (talk) 08:45, 2 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
I added the page to my whitelist. --Pasleim (talk) 11:50, 2 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
Hi, just an idea, as I do not really work on those, except when I just stumble on them.
since ther is a dedicated property different from (P1889), why not use a bot to add it to all pairs in Do not merge page ? it would be easier to maintain, no ? — just an idea, I'm not dev' ;) --Hsarrazin (talk) 14:57, 16 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Please update the recentdeaths tool :) edit

https://tools.wmflabs.org/pltools/recentdeaths/ needs to be updated, totake into account the 2015-2016 shift.

2015 now displays people dead in 2016, and people dead in 2015 are not displayed.

Thanks for your help on this ;)

wow, that was fast !!! Thanks, and very Happy New Year to you :) --Hsarrazin (talk) 12:42, 2 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
your welcome. Happy New Year! --Pasleim (talk) 12:44, 2 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Maybe, to avoid future changes like this, every year, would it be possible to rename pages (or do a redirection) so that pages directly display the year name ? what do you think @Jura1: ? --Hsarrazin (talk) 12:16, 2 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

In December, I changed the list-making part to ensure it will still run the same way in 2116. It did make the shift to 2016 fine. The currrent solution avoids updating the redirect every year ;)

Use of Harvest Template for dates of birth and death edit

Hello Pasleim,

A lot of articles do not show the dates of birth/death in the article, which makes it impossible to edit quickly with Recentdeath tool.

I wanted to use HarvestTemplate, but a lot of wp use structured templates to store dates, like Template:Doğum tarixi (on azwiki) or Template:Birth date on enwiki (which are Template:Birth date and age (Q5826978) or Template:Birth date (Q6719459) for P569.

Is it possible to retrieve those dates with Harvest Template, and how to do it, please ? --Hsarrazin (talk) 18:19, 2 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

It's not yet possible but I'm working on it. --Pasleim (talk) 20:02, 2 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Merge candidates+ edit

Hi. Related to /projectmerge, where you collect merge candidates based on same sitelink name, I would suggest to add (in separate pages?) new candidates — pages in different wikipedias with the same page title just plus default disambiguation term in parantheses.
For example: en:A_(disambiguation) --- fr:A_(homonymie) --- A_(Begriffsklärung).

Across all wikipedias probably exists many such isolated disambiguation pages, and they currently aren't catched in /projectmerge. For ro.wiki, in last months I found several hundreds of such isolated disambigs, most of them having correponding pages in other wikis and I have merged these items. If you are interested in this, you can do a scan for all wikipedias, just probably you need some help to know default disambiguation terms for all languages of major wikipedias.

Additionally, if you want, you can do one time scan for candidates for merging in non-content pages in wikis — homonymous templates and categories. --XXN, 21:11, 2 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Project merge edit

Hi Pasleim, is there a problem with right-to-left wikis ? A lot of articles are not identified. Look here for an example [1][2][3]. It's the same name in arwikiquote and arwikipedia but not identifiedin User:Pasleim/projectmerge/arwiki-arwikiquote . --Helmoony (talk) 15:28, 4 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Ok, I understand now the limits of your tool. It's based on wikidata. May be looking directly to projects will increase the number of merges specially for small wikis where little is exported to wikidata. Thank you any way for your job. --Helmoony (talk) 15:29, 5 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

ISNI number edit

Hoi, you change the ISNI number and consequently they no longer work in Reasonator.. Bad idea! Thanks, GerardM (talk) 14:20, 7 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

ISNI has a internal presentation and standard display presentation. In Wikidata we use the display presentation. This is defined by the format constraint on Property talk:P213, by Property:P213#P1793 ans even in the description of ISNI (P213) it's mentioned to include the spaces. If Reasonator can't deal with spaces it's the problem of Reasonator and not Wikidata. Already before I started to automatically add the spaces there were some 270,000 statements with space and less than 1000 statements without spaces. --Pasleim (talk) 14:35, 7 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Addlingue bug + feature request edit

Hi, about addlingue :

  1. It would be cool to add a check to see if the edit will not create a duplicate like this one : https://www.wikidata.org/w/index.php?title=Q5358479&diff=next&oldid=291134979
  2. One thing that could make the editing a little bit more efficient : select a language (maybe a set of) and show first all the claims that the computer guessed as this language specifically, to avoid clicking for nothing sequentially in items when the job in your languages has essentially been done in that bunch of items.
  3. Add statistics about job done estimate for a language (based on what the computer suggest, for example).

author  TomT0m / talk page 09:21, 12 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

  • Also an annoying stuff : the element of the interface "moves" from one reload to another. It's a bad thing. It should be avoided, for example by putting the language button always as if the string display had 2 lines, or by fixing the position of the "skip" button.
  • If there is a heuristic that gives a second guessed language, then display it as well.

author  TomT0m / talk page 09:31, 12 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

I completely support the request about language filtering, and maybe also a possibility to choose between "only statements", "only refs", or "indifferantiate"
I also would like to have language stats, and general stats.
thanks a lot :) --Hsarrazin (talk) 15:04, 16 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
Thanks to you both for the feedback. Filtering by language isn't possible because the language isn't determined until you load the page. On some stats I'm working currently. --Pasleim (talk) 22:25, 17 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Recentdeaths tool... just an idea for potential sources edit

Hi Pasleim,

Your tool is really useful and I'm working my way backward to reduce the number of items without dates...

I had an idean concerning potential Google news source. Would it be possible to remove (and therefore mark as "no source to add found", the news that are before the death date indicated ?

For example, on Q11565873, date of death: 2016-01-16, the only potential Google news is dated Fri, 12 Jul 2013 08:17:01 GMT... obviously impossible to use ;)

Thanks for that tool…

Also, is it directly linked to "Deaths_at_Wikipedia" reports, or would it be possible to add previous years (199x) without generating reports ? that would allow to continue backward, this tool being really nice to systematically find Death and Birth dates (compared to Magnus' Game, that's fun for adding random dates, but cannot allow to work systematically, using categories :) --Hsarrazin (talk) 14:38, 16 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Recentdeaths tool... improvement of navigation ? edit

Some years have very long lists, and are updated only once a day...

Do you think it would be possible to add a "Skip to next empty date" button, to ease browsing from incomplete item to next incomplete item, instead of 1 by 1.

Also, in Birth date, what is the sorting order for items ? clearly not the QID, as those are mixed up... could this order please be added (or best, reversed, from most recent to oldest item), so that it would be easier to find new items in the list ?

Thanks a lot --Hsarrazin (talk) 15:12, 16 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Sorting by QID is now active. --Pasleim (talk) 23:21, 17 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

User:Pasleim/Implausible/age edit

Hi Pasleim, nice overview! Two requests:

  1. Could you update the table?
  2. Could you add another table for people who lived for less than 10 years, but do have occupation set? Usually something is wrong in that case. We might have to tweak it a bit (lower it to 5 years) if we get (too many) false positives. Would be nice to have that in table format too including an extra occupation field.

Thanks, Multichill (talk) 11:03, 17 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Oh, I just noticed Charlie Smith (Q5085531) in the list. You should probably ignore deprecated statements. Multichill (talk) 11:07, 17 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Harvest template - suggestion to use the error values edit

Hello Pasleim,

working on very specific templates (biographies and birth/death dates), I found that some types of error message are very useful to go back on either wp project or wd item… those are :

  • Doc Guidry → Q19878450 → no value → Q19878450 → Template not found → Q19878450 → Template not found → Q19878450 → Template not found (wrong order of parameters on wp)
  • Domingo Arechiga → Q20806756 → type constraint violation (generally means no or erroneous P31 - I found a lot of "competition sport" insted of "person")
  • also the error with several templates found (don't remember the exact text - saw it a dozen of times - generally means there is garbage on the wp page

do you think it would be possible to add the possibility to have a list/log of items with those errors edited at the end of the job, so that the faulty items can be corrected ? - something like "errors been found - display list of errors found ?"

no use displaying the out of date range errors… or the "no value" errors, that cannot be usefully worked on. :)

Thanks a lot --Hsarrazin (talk) 11:13, 17 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

oh, and also, I don't understand what the "invalid snak" means like in
  • Frederick Hopkinson → Q20707081 → invalid-snak:Invalid snak ($timestamp must resemble ISO 8601, given +1922-03-falseT00:00:00Z)
perhaps another error log to add, if you understand what it means :) --Hsarrazin (talk) 11:15, 17 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
and perhaps — tell me if I'm too greedy — a quick stat (number of edited items/number of unedited) ? --Hsarrazin (talk) 11:18, 17 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
For the errors, just open the TSV in a spreadsheet program (e.g. Excel) and apply a filter. It will have the error messages in there. You can even filter on the error messages (if you can't you have a bad spreadsheet program). Mbch331 (talk) 12:02, 17 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
I already tried, but I indeed have a bad spreadsheet program —— especially since I don't use spreadsheets at home, and work on Mac, hence Numbers can't open files in the data format —— I agree, with Excel it would already be done  ;)
moreover, these errors are, in reality, rare compared to the length of most lists. An extraction of just those cited above in a list would be quicker and useable to me, which csv, tsv files aren't :( --Hsarrazin (talk) 14:14, 17 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
Just a tip, if you rename .tsv to .txt Numbers app will open it fine.-- Hakan·IST 14:21, 17 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
Regarding the erroneous snak, the value sent to the API is +1922-03-falseT00:00:00Z. So somehow Harvest Templates doesn't recognise it should use month precision and thinks "false" is the value for the day instead of using 00 for the day. Mbch331 (talk) 12:07, 17 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for explanation. Can this be corrected in HT or does it mean that something should/could be done in the wp project ? --Hsarrazin (talk) 14:14, 17 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
I don't know. Depends on the way it's imported with HT. What property and which template+wiki? Mbch331 (talk) 14:20, 17 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
Found it. {{birth date|1922|3||df=yes}} is translated to 1922-03-false. This needs to be corrected in HT. It needs to determine if there's a value and on first value not found, it should determine, which of the three values isn't found and set the precision accordingly. Mbch331 (talk) 14:43, 17 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
Found the error in the code and submitted a pull request on github. Mbch331 (talk) 16:59, 17 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
Thanks Mbch331, this should allow to dig out quite a lot of other incomplete dates ;) --Hsarrazin (talk) 18:30, 17 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
Pasleim still needs to merge the patch and upload the latest version to Toollabs before it's fixed. Mbch331 (talk) 18:44, 17 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

@Mbch331: Thanks for the patch. I merged and uploaded it. --Pasleim (talk) 22:04, 17 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Ref for qualifiers on L'Ile-aux-Marins (Q292246) edit

Hi,

Where did you get the values for the start time (P580) and end time (P582) qualifiers on instance of (P31) = commune of France (Q484170) on L'Ile-aux-Marins (Q292246) item? (see your diff special:Diff/182755700). I search for more information but the only reference I found says otherwise : end time (P582) = 1945 (Insee Première).

redirects on Recent deaths reports edit

Hi Pasleim,

Is there a problem with redirects ?

Thanks for your help. --Hsarrazin (talk) 14:43, 17 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

It seems they come from the old QID being present in the Wiki that is mentioned in the list. What seems to work to get rid of them is to do a full purge of the page on the wiki.
Try https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/api.php?action=purge&forcelinkupdate&forcerecursivelinkupdate&titles= including the title of the page.

Harvest template doesn't seem to work in arabic edit

Hello,

Here is the permalink

3 of the articles I checked in the first part of the list had a birth date, but all display "no value". you can use Suliman al-Reshoudi (Q7636278) to test :) --Hsarrazin (talk) 19:34, 17 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Try this link instead. (Removing the first + after parameter= in the URL has solved it). The part of the script that decodes the URL parameters only replaces 1 + with a space, the others are untouched. Mbch331 (talk) 20:41, 17 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
All + get now replaced with a space. In Suliman al-Reshoudi (Q7636278) the date of birth is stored in the subtemplate "تاريخ الميلاد والعمر". Fill that into Harvest Templates, leave the parameter field empty but fill in the year, month, day field, i.e. [4]. --Pasleim (talk) 23:17, 17 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, once more :) --Hsarrazin (talk) 02:17, 18 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

trouble with harvesttemplates edit

hi Pasleim, i have a problem with this data import permalink. I use google chrome 47 and the console give me the error: "Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property 'Will-Chalker' of undefined". Thanks!--Edoardo88 (talk) 17:46, 18 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

There was an error in the constraint defintions of Models.com person ID (P2471). It shouldn't be a value-type=Q5 constraint but a type=Q5 constraint. Value type constraints are only allowed for properties with data type item. --Pasleim (talk) 08:16, 19 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

harvesttemplates edit

Possible improvement:

  1. More than one infobox parameter should be supported. In Chinese Wikipedia many infobox parameters have many alternative names.
  2. While importing item claims, it should be possible to import more than one values (e.g. only one value is imported to Fuzhou railway station (Q987678), while zh:福州站 lists six values), and follows redirects (e.g. data in zh:潼南站 can not be imported and throws "target has no Wikidata item" instead).

--GZWDer (talk) 07:56, 19 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

  1. Can you show me an example of infobox parameters with alternatives names?
  2. Importing multiple values is a bit tricky. For example, you find often expresion like birth_place = Berlin, Germany. In such cases importing the second value (Germany) should be avoided. --Pasleim (talk) 08:35, 19 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
  1. [5] {{!}}{{{post code|{{{postcode}}}}}}}} many other examples exist in zhwiki infoboxes.
  2. Probably only import if all values are in wikilinks, and they are spilted by special strings ("and", ",", "、", "<br>" etc), and users can turn off this function. by the way, some values are in templates ({{北京地铁线路名|4|c}}、{{北京地铁线路名|14|c}} in zh:北京南站) - expanding template is probably needed.

Hi,
I was also working with Harvest Templates, about an hour ago, in the middle of a list of items, and suddenly I got error messages saying I was not logged in Widar, and I should login before continuing, but it is completely impossible to log in widar. I get the "allow" window, but after that, I'm still not logged in "You have not authorized Widar to perform edits on Wikidata on your behalf. Authorize WiDaR now."...
I remember a message by Magnus Manske yesterday (on twitter?), saying something about Oauth and Widar reconnection needed, but did not get it then :/
Do you know is there a problem with Widar, or with the database ? --Hsarrazin (talk) 20:42, 20 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Recentdeaths tool... \o/ edit

Hi Pasleim,

Did you just add the "get full article" link, or was I just blind previously ? :D

That's just brilliant... no need to acces the wp page any more, and automatically translates dates... you made my day, even if evening was hard with tools down :)

Thanks a lot --Hsarrazin (talk) 00:52, 22 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

@Jura1:
now, I see 3 remaining real problems, that will need some thinking to solve :
  • the problem of non-gregorian calendar dates, in particular in islamic calendar, like here Q16053350, or worse arabic figures Izzat Traboulsi (Q6816094) — is an auto-conversion tool possible, you think ?
  • the possibility to indicate "date unknown" when no date can be found, or the wp page says "?" (generally for birth) - do you think a special button could be added, to be able to add that info from the tool directly ?
  • articles which do not display a date at all but claim it in category like Gumercindo López (Q5407019)
anyway, I see that tonight, some years have been completely cleaned of previously stuck items, and that is really.... grrrrrreat ! --Hsarrazin (talk) 01:03, 22 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
Nice addition! Thanks.
I found Arabic dates fairly rare even in arwiki, but recently I started skipping RTL languages anyways. For Q5407019, I would set two dates with P1317. Some IP added years for the category .. odd. I did try to purge caching of various articles.

I was trying to import Catalan Biographical Dictionary of Women ID (P2498) from cawiki template Diccionari Biogràfic de Dones, I get over 300 pages. But when I run demo I only get Amalia Domingo Soler → Q9609556 → no value → Q9609556 → Template not found these kind of responses. I checked what the cause is and that's because the template is uses like this: <ref name="DbD">{{Diccionari Biogràfic de Dones|id=4051|nom=Amalia Domingo Soler}}</ref>. Is there an easy fix for this? Mbch331 (talk) 11:47, 23 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

All templates in references are intentionally ignored because the data in those templates doesn't have to be necessary about the article's subject. For example, you find in ca:Alejandra Soler the ID of his friend Carmen Solero Asturiano and in ca:Jaume III de Mallorca the ID of his wife Reina de Mallorca. --Pasleim (talk) 10:12, 24 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Blacklist Q17339402 for merging edit

Could you change your bot so it doesn't merge Q17339402 with another item after a sitelink move? The item is part of Wikidata:Tours. Mbch331 (talk) 13:55, 23 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

It would probably make sense to exclude everything in Category:Notability policy exemptions. It includes the sandboxes and tour items and other things with special meanings which shouldn't be merged, like badges. - Nikki (talk) 21:21, 23 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
Everything in Category:Notability policy exemptions is now excluded. --Pasleim (talk) 09:55, 24 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Harvest templates : no format pattern found edit

Hello, this query ,gives the error when I click "get pages", it doesn't give the error if another property # entered. what may be the problem? -- Hakan·IST 19:37, 24 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

The tool expects a {{Constraint:Format|pattern=}} on the talkpage. In case of Turkish Football Federation player ID (P2448) this is missing. Mbch331 (talk) 19:56, 24 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
I solved it by adding a format constraint. Now you get a page list. Mbch331 (talk) 19:59, 24 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Not updating anymore? edit

Hi, your / this bot used to update the page Wikidata:WikiProject Association football/Wanted footballers/nl every week but it isn't updated since 18 January. Hope you can solve this! greetings Basnoordwijk (talk) 10:45, 29 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

There was a technical problem with the Labs server last weekend. Next Sunday the list should be updated again. --Pasleim (talk) 22:00, 29 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for responding so quick! Will the update still be once a week at monday night? greeting Basnoordwijk (talk) 16:09, 4 February 2016 (UTC)Reply
If there are no technical problems, it should update every monday night --Pasleim (talk) 17:23, 4 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Commons category edit

Hi! I noticed, that harvesttemplates doesn't perform a check for Commons category (P373), do they exist. Maybe you could add such check? It would help to reduce errors, I think. Would be cool, if it would be possible to add check for redirects. --Edgars2007 (talk) 15:17, 29 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

I will try to implement this within the next few days. --Pasleim (talk) 22:02, 29 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
Commons link constraint and some other constraints are now implemented but there is not yet a check for soft redirect pages. --Pasleim (talk) 22:55, 30 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. Just found this category, that most probably would be good to check. --Edgars2007 (talk) 10:22, 31 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Fail while using HarvestTemplate edit

Hi Pasleim,

while using HT, I often get a "Request Failed: error, Bad Gateway" message on perfectly valid requests, like [8]. Do you know what's causing it ? the tool, a server problem ?

Thanks a lot, this tool is really doing wonders to retrieve dates :) --Hsarrazin (talk) 08:28, 30 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

This error appears while loading all pages with the template. During the last days I tried top optimize the script but could not discover a more efficient way as it is at the moment. So unfortunately I'm not able to resolve this issue. --Pasleim (talk) 13:07, 2 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Given names and disambiguations edit

Hi Pasleim,

As your bot when redirecting items (and you) edit quite a few disambiguation items, I'd be glad to have your thoughts on Wikidata_talk:WikiProject_Names#Revise_.22How_to_clean_up_a_given_name_item.22.
--- Jura 11:48, 31 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

BTW, would you update the configuration for the lists? I'm trying to add QIDs
--- Jura 19:29, 1 February 2016 (UTC)Reply
It was already updated but a bug prevented the display of QIDs. --Pasleim (talk) 13:03, 2 February 2016 (UTC)Reply
I added another one to the config. Would you update it once more?
--- Jura 17:28, 29 February 2016 (UTC)Reply
Would you update both again?

I double-checked the sql for recent deaths on quarry with most of the list for 1980. It worked. Not sure why it doesn't work on the bot's. Would you restore the previous version?

It's working now. --Pasleim (talk) 09:57, 18 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

Ideas for harvesttemplates edit

Some ideas for harvesttemplates. Some are maybe good, some not so good.

  • support template parameter aliases. Very useful for external identifiers, like this template.
  Done --Pasleim (talk) 20:23, 25 February 2016 (UTC)Reply
  • category depth. I see you use SQL for categorylinks, so it is pretty bad suggestion, as it would make tool work a lot slower. But maybe you can borrow some code from Magnus' tools?
  • unique value violations... It would be very nice to include a link to that item, which would "cause" unique value violation. If it would make tool quite slow, then maybe checkbox ("tick, if you want to get link to [that and that]") could be made?
  • maybe some WDQ and/or SPARQL support? --Edgars2007 (talk) 13:39, 2 February 2016 (UTC)Reply
One more idea would be to add something like offset. My use case is: I'm importing Px and there are very many pages, that are skipped (mainly because no value is found). I'm in the middle of list and for some reasons I have to close it and start everything from beginning later. I know, that for example first 3000 items will be empty, so it would be good to start with 3001st item. Of course, this works only if order of Wikipedia pages is the same every time. --Edgars2007 (talk) 14:14, 22 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Looks like alias isn't working as expected. Link. I get "badtoken: Invalid token" error for those articles, which have |id= (e.g. en:Anna Styazhkina). --Edgars2007 (talk) 12:48, 26 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

I can't reproduce it. Does this work? --Pasleim (talk) 13:00, 26 February 2016 (UTC)Reply
I also can't reproduce it anymore ;) Now everything is working, looks like some error on my end. Sorry for disturbance :) --Edgars2007 (talk) 13:04, 26 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

And what about dates? Link. en:Imke Wedekind, for example, has that "birth date and age" template, but tools returns "no value found". Or I did something silly? --Edgars2007 (talk) 22:46, 26 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

It is working now. But in your exmaple, you use the template birth date with date of death (P570) which is probably not what you want. --Pasleim (talk) 09:53, 27 February 2016 (UTC)Reply
S* :) Then it's good, that it wasn't working yesterday. Well, I sometimes mix up even country (P17) and country of citizenship (P27) after some 6 months of real working at Wikidata, not just iw linking. That means - never rely on your memory. So I have one (minor) more suggestion. Add some link to property itself next to that property field. Just to make sure, people aren't harvesting the wrong property (you can very easily write down the wrong prop.). --Edgars2007 (talk) 10:16, 27 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for including cat. depth and that label. Haven't used depth yet, but it will be useful. Here are three more suggestions for your consideration.

  • This is pretty minor issue. Maybe you could add a little bit more descriptive filenames for downloaded files? Something like: "harvesttemplates-PX-xxwiki". If you download the results for analyzing later, then you can forget, what did you downloaded. And if you have 100 files in the same folder, it helps person to find right file
  • Another minor issue. Maybe you could add a link to template, that is in the template field? The link helps in various situations, e.g. when you work with several Wikipedias. OK, this is really not so important, but if you think it could also be useful...
  • And some serious stuff. Would be cool to check another parameter value. That is, I would like to add Transfermarkt player ID (P2446) only when this template has also |2=G. OK, there are some more complex examples (see German WP and the wikicode), but that can be added one by one.

Oh, and one question. If article has several templates with the same name, and both of them have the same parameter with different values, which value will be taken? It will be always the first one? You see, it's not so unusual that songs have several infoboxes in the same articles (for different versions), so it's pretty important to know, which infobox is taken into consideration. --Edgars2007 (talk) 16:29, 9 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

To keep everything in one section (if you want me to continue in new sections, then say)...

  1. It probably doesn't affect property addition (I don't remember), but you should escape quotes in page titles. That is, when opening this page from HT, I got "Marge Simpson in".
  Done --Pasleim (talk) 20:45, 8 April 2016 (UTC)Reply
  1. Some kind of "News" section would be nice, I think. There you could list of all new features.

--Edgars2007 (talk) 07:43, 28 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

will add a News section as soon as new features are available. --Pasleim (talk) 20:45, 8 April 2016 (UTC)Reply
added some news. --Pasleim (talk) 07:10, 25 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

I assume HT doesn't like template namespace name, right? E.g., this quey shows "Template not found" for Martinho de Araújo ("IATGewichtheberProfil" in weblinks section). Yes, it is a minor issue (I assume), but maybe this could get fixed? Maybe you could read via API (or anything else) allowed namespace names. If I understand this correctly, then these issues are (at least partly) related. --Edgars2007 (talk) 14:37, 24 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

--Tlustulimu (talk) 20:00, 3 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

HT error? edit

Link. Why does the script shows error "no value → Qx → Template not found"? For example Neil Warnock (one of the first in the list) - he has the template in text, not in reference. Didn't find any issues in article. --Edgars2007 (talk) 10:18, 3 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

I fixed it. Thanks for reporting. --Pasleim (talk) 17:30, 3 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Harvest Templates problem edit

Hi, I am trying to harvest cs:Šablona:Infobox - budova parameter "rejstřík památek", but i am not able to get pages. Maybe diacritic in parameter is problem? But it works OK with "současný majitel" parametr (with diacritic). --Jklamo (talk) 16:01, 6 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

I would say, that parameter is OK, but Czech cultural heritage ID (P762) has some problems (assuming, you're trying to harvest to that property). --Edgars2007 (talk) 16:27, 6 February 2016 (UTC)Reply
Actually I have a feeling there is currently a general problem fetching page information. Even a query that worked in the past (pages on enwiki using Infobox film) doesn't work. When I run the query manually on Quarry, it gives 0 results (for the cswiki template and the enwiki template). So the problem isn't with Harvest Templates. Mbch331 (talk) 17:15, 6 February 2016 (UTC)Reply
Mbch331, dont forget to replace spaces to underscores at Quarry for page titles and pretty much any other field :) --Edgars2007 (talk) 17:22, 6 February 2016 (UTC)Reply
Oops.... Only 1 field though (only the template). So I need to dig deeper into the problem. Mbch331 (talk) 17:26, 6 February 2016 (UTC)Reply
I can't find the issue. I guess Pasleim needs to look into this. I can get a list of pages using the infobox, I can get a list of pages having the P742 claim. So I give up on finding the cause. Mbch331 (talk) 17:53, 6 February 2016 (UTC)Reply
The problem is related to the type constraint. The SPARQL to get all subclasses of work (Q386724) and geographical feature (Q618123) timeouts. Will try to find another method to check type constraints. --Pasleim (talk) 13:48, 8 February 2016 (UTC)Reply
Problem also occurs with this query, but only when the checkbox for match is checked. Mbch331 (talk) 11:17, 12 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Recent Deaths tool \o/ edit

Hey Pasleim, @Jura1: :D

Thanks to your wonderful tool, Recent deaths from 2000 to 2016 are now completely up-to-date. Which means that now, all new items on lists of Wikidata:Database_reports/Deaths_at_Wikipedia will be new reports :))

It would be nice, now that this work is done, to be able to continue backward, on 1990s years…

Would it be possible to have the concerned items on the tool, without having to generate new lists ? Could the tool be fed by a request, that could be adapted along the work ? This would allow to continue using this efficient tool, instead of working language by language, and item by item, by hand, like before you created this tool...

What do you think ? Thanks for all your suggestions. --Hsarrazin (talk) 20:04, 8 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

This is great! I will soon add the 1990s to the list. --Pasleim (talk) 09:39, 9 February 2016 (UTC)Reply
also, when updating the reports, would it be possible to automatically remove redirections, please ?
some stick there for days, or more, like Richard Dyer on Wikidata:Database reports/Deaths at Wikipedia/2004 - and in the tool, they just appear with no info (blank page). -- Thanks --Hsarrazin (talk) 20:09, 9 February 2016 (UTC)Reply
Thanks Pasleim for adding 1999, 1998 and 1997, and completing other years with huwiki ;)
could you please update ? I had a 1st pass at 1999 and most are done, and I'm now going down 1998 :) --Hsarrazin (talk) 20:33, 11 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Harves template - constraint edit

I want to import some administrative units to located in the administrative territorial entity (P131). [9] They are in template as parameter without bracket. But when importing, tool says

w:cs:Seznam kulturních památek v Holašovicích → Q8553953 → no target page found

or (with checked matching)

w:cs:Seznam kulturních památek v Holašovicích → Q8553953 → Constraint violation type

(or something similar, unable to load again). Where is error? JAn Dudík (talk) 21:07, 8 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Your first error indicates that the harvested value has no link to a Wikipedia page and therefore can't be linked to Wikidata (as guessing means the tool can make a mistake). The second error means that the item you are trying to add a value to doesn't match the Type constraint as defined on the talk page of P131. In this case it means cultural monuments in Holašovice (Q8553953) isn't a location (or subclass of location) and that's true because cultural monuments in Holašovice (Q8553953)instance of (P31)Wikimedia list article (Q13406463). And P131 only applies to locations. The tool can't add the statement because it would be an illegal statement according to the rules for located in the administrative territorial entity (P131). Mbch331 (talk) 21:16, 8 February 2016 (UTC)Reply
I tried it, because after many changes my old python scripts which were able to add not formatted string as item does not work anymore.
ad1) Is there any way to add values, which are not formated as wikilink?
ad2) Is there any way to add it as statement
Any other way I mean - some python script, some other tool, some other script... ? 10:22, 9 February 2016 (UTC)
For unlinked items, you can add them manually. I don't know of any automated tool. I think the reason is, that because they are unlinked, they need human review. To make sure you're adding the right statement. There is no way for the system to know which item to add. Mbch331 (talk) 10:28, 9 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Add found values in log for constraint errors edit

Is it possible to add the values Harvest Templates finds, but won't add due to constraint errors, to the logfile. Especially those for type constraint and value type constraint. I could then try to use my own tool to create QuickStatements statements and add them that way. Also I would like to see the found values for "target page not found". recent death reports not updating edit

Hi Pasleim,

except for the present year report, the reports have not been updated since Feb. 14, in the morning. Is it the expected behaviour ? or is there a problem and the reports do not update automatically ?

Thanks for your help on these :) --Hsarrazin (talk) 20:03, 16 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

The reports should get an update every 24 hours. If one update is missing, there might be a problem with Labs or with the nightly version of pywikibot. If multiple updates in a row are missing, there is a more serious problem. --Pasleim (talk) 08:46, 22 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

harvest template : adding a new item in an existing property edit

Hi. I've tried to use pywikibot harvest template script to add new 'claims' in P54 property of footballers, but I've faced some difficulties.

  1. The script tests if any claims exists for the property (if set(self.fields.values()) <= set(item.claims.keys()): and if claim.getID() in item.get().get('claims'):), but almost every footballer still has some P54 claims : so I deactivate these parts of the script. OK, it works.
  2. But now, I need to test if the item extracted from the template is already described in the property, to avoid duplicate values. But I do not know how to code this... (I discover too many things in a same time :-) ).

Could anyone help me ? Maybe another script already do the job ? Thanks in advance --H4stings (talk) 22:58, 16 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

I've found in claimit.py some of the answers. to be continued... --H4stings (talk) 10:46, 17 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Recentdeaths tool down edit

mmm in fact Tool labs are down :(( --Hsarrazin (talk) 20:47, 18 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

All servers are being rebooted. However the webservice isn't automatically started after that. The tool owner has to login to tool labs via SSH and manually start the webservice for each tool. Magnus' tools are down, mine are back up since I noticed what was going on. But recentdeaths and harvest templates won't work until Pasleim restarts the webservice of his tools. Mbch331 (talk) 21:21, 18 February 2016 (UTC)Reply
good evening Mbch331. Well it seems that the labs have fallen again, since even the homepage displayes a 503 error.
Magnus was rather worried with tools failing since 2-3 days. Apparently, major problem with labs... --Hsarrazin (talk) 21:49, 18 February 2016 (UTC)Reply
Today's reboot was due to the installation of an update for a library that is widely used. I know there was an issue with 1 bot generating a huge logfile a few days ago, maybe that caused the outage of tools on the same server, I don't know. Mbch331 (talk) 21:53, 18 February 2016 (UTC)Reply
Harvest Templates is up and running again, so probably the recent deaths tool too. Mbch331 (talk) 08:24, 19 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Implausible painters edit

Hi Pasleim, I was wondering if you could set up another of your nice reports. Sometimes the wrong painter gets added to a painting because two painters have the same name. Take for example Couple at an Inn Table (Q20355044), here Jan Steen (Q2483000) was added instead of Jan Steen (Q205863). My approach would probably be to grab all the paintings (instance of (P31)-> painting (Q3305213)) that have creator (P170) and inception (P571) set. Join that with the painters and return the items where inception (P571) is not between date of birth (P569) and date of death (P570). Would be great if you could set this up. As an extra you could look for different from (P1889) and return that as a suggestion. Multichill (talk) 12:21, 21 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

For the beginning I created a complex constraint on P170. Will create a more detailed report for paintings in the next days. --Pasleim (talk) 12:36, 22 February 2016 (UTC)Reply
Awesome! We'll probably first need time to clean out this report and to see what kind of false positives show up. Thanks for your help! Multichill (talk) 22:34, 25 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

New complex constraints edit

Your bot doesn't seem to notice when there are new complex constraints. date of birth (P569) and date of death (P570) have a complex constraint as well, but there are no reports generated. All properties with complex constraints can be found in Category:Properties with complex constraints (even if there is no report available). Mbch331 (talk) 06:41, 24 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

The bot noticed the new constraints but failed to execute them because it was using the prefix from Wikidata:SPARQL query service/queries instead of mw:Wikibase/Indexing/SPARQL Query Examples. Would probably be nice to unify these. --Pasleim (talk) 09:35, 24 February 2016 (UTC)Reply
Official list of prefixes here: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Wikibase/Indexing/RDF_Dump_Format#Prefixes_used. Those are now supported out of the box without needing to explicitly declare them. Of course, if you declare them that should work too. --Smalyshev (WMF) (talk) 23:08, 24 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Problem mit dem Parameter "language" edit

Hallo, Pasleim.

{{Informkesto urbo/provejo2

Die Funktion claim ist dort im Modul eo:Modulo:Geografiaĵoj/provejo2 in die Funktion "notaldono" wie folgt eingebunden.
               referenco = wikidata.claim({args={pk,references="jes",id=wdid} })
               referenco = wikidata.claim({args={pk,references="raw",id=wdid} })
:-) --Tlustulimu (talk) 22:07, 9 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Not all persons are citizens edit

Please note that not every person in a country was ever a citizen of said country: Skrydstrup Woman (Q1451517). --Hjart (talk) 13:36, 26 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

country (P17) on an item about a person is highly ambiguous. More precise properties like place of birth (P19), place of death (P20), residence (P551), work location (P937) or, as in this case, location of discovery (P189) should be used. country (P17) is then redundant and can be removed. --Pasleim (talk) 13:58, 26 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hi Pasleim,

which is very interesting, because it displays the totals of the columns for all years displayed.

Max query time complex constraints edit

What is the maximum query time for Complex Constraints? The query for creator (P170) timed out according to your bot, I tested the query and it takes 5494 ms for the query to run (after some testing I found values between 4700 ms and 8900 ms). If I skip the filter, the time is mostly 4400 - 4500 ms, but than your bot should have the possibility to skip items. Somekind of exception handling is needed. Mbch331 (talk) 18:57, 6 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

The maximum query time is 30s. But the report of P170 failed because of the comment inside thte query. I fixed it. --Pasleim (talk) 20:43, 6 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

P131 in former administrative entities edit

You currently fill my watchlist with P131 added to many "former Swedish administrative entities". No problems with that. What I am curious about is if we yet have any standard for how we should add such statements to "former entities" like these? Many of these ended to exists in the 1950's and many present entities were founded in the 1970's.

Take Q23001755 as an example. It is true that the area of Anderstorps municipalsamhälle today is located in Gislaved Municipality. But Gislaved was not extended to this area until 1974 and Anderstorp ME was dissolved 1953. It then looks to me that the "preferred rank statement" better would be to add which municipality Anderstorp ME was located in 1952 (when it was dissolved) and have Gislaved as a "normal rank statement" with "from 1974" as a qualifier. (Observe that Anderstorp ME was completely dissolved as a political entity. It has not become a sub-entity to later municipalities.)

Compare this with if we have an item about a province in the Roman Empire. Asia minor was (maybe) such a province. Today that province is "located in Turkey", that far is true, and I have no problem with a statement like that. But I would prefer to have "localted in Roman/Bysantic Empire" as the "preferred rank statement" if you see what I mean. -- Innocent bystander (talk) 11:17, 16 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Usage of HarvestTemplates to find ISBN (and more) edit

Hi Pasleim

I want to fill Wikidata with information about books and their ISBN. That would be useful to generate proper sources by using Citoid.

Based on French Wikipedia Wikidata Project advice, I've checked your tool and I don't feel conformable using it: it fell I'll break everything. IS it possible to get the result of an harvesting as a CSV file? that would be very useful to me to clean data, compare existing items on Wikidata and separate information in two different items: books (the work itself) from the edition (with the ISBN).

If you have any advice or idea about my project, I'll be very happy to listen to you!

Thanks, Trizek (talk) 13:56, 29 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

It's possible to get the results in a CSV file. After you filled in the form and clicked get pages (no editing will happen at that stage) there will be a link to export the result to a CSV file. However, you can't import ISBN from Template:Cite book (Q92570) with the tool because the ISBN in that template is referring to the book mentioned in the template and not to the article in which the template is placed in, e.g. the ISBN mentioned in fr:Île Buckle (0-87590-172-7) shouldn't be added to Buckle Island (Q999791) but to an not yet existing item about the book Volcanoes of the Antarctic Plate and Southern Oceans. --Pasleim (talk) 14:28, 29 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

No message in HarvestTemplates when not logged in edit

I just tried to use HarvestTemplates but nothing was happening when I clicked "get pages". In the console, I got "Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property 'userinfo' of undefined main.js?version=a2b0b5c4f614b0a82beeaf3cc74271ebc16aaacf:911". I eventually realised it was because I'd been logged out again - it would be nice if it would catch that and tell me I need to log in first. :)

Politics and the English language edit

Let me guess, the claim that Orwell's essay is about verbosity is my personal theory, and is just vandalism, Wikidata surely is not the right place to establish such theories, and I should write a blog post, or something? At least this isn't Wiktionary. If I were to say in a Wiktionary talk page "You don't quite sound like you are just making this stuff up, so by all means demonstrate that you are not. Where are you getting this stuff, anyway", then the response would be "By the way, using my own words against me would only work if you made some sense. Otherwise it just shows you know you're in over your head and you're desperately trying to come up with some kind of gimmick to divert attention from the losing battle". You wouldn't believe what it's like over there. 110.55.4.163 12:58, 8 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

Wikidata is indeed not the right place to propagate personal theories. --Pasleim (talk) 13:29, 8 April 2016 (UTC)Reply
"When there is a gap between one's real and one's declared aims, one turns as it were instinctively to long words and exhausted idioms, like a cuttlefish spurting out ink." "The insincerity of the writer perpetuates the decline of the language as people (particularly politicians, Orwell later notes) attempt to disguise their intentions behind euphemisms and convoluted phrasing." I could go on about this, but this is even worse than not calling a duck a duck (Q1324171) when the duck is right there in front of you. Sure, the last duck that somehow isn't a duck is merely a publicly available work that you'd have to buy or rent, but everyone here can read the Wikipedia article, gratis. How many different ways can the Wikipedia article say, "Politics and the English language, main subject of work, verbosity" before you'll allow this claim in? 110.55.4.163 13:57, 8 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

Adding File: and Image: support to HarvestTemplates edit

Harvesttemplate for it:Template:Bio "GiornoMeseNascita" and "AnnoNascita" edit

Hi Pasleim,

This template at itwiki splits dates into two fields. As it's widely used in itwiki, would you consider adding support for that to Harvesttempplates? Articles in it:Categoria:Voci con template Bio e AnnoNascita assente su Wikidata are still missing P569.
--- Jura 19:54, 20 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

Are the month names in "GiornoMeseNascita" always written out or there also values like 21.04.? --Pasleim (talk) 08:23, 21 April 2016 (UTC)Reply
The template documentation gives either a written out form or a form with Wikilinks ("Se conosciuta, inserire solo la data senza wikilink, es. '13 settembre', se sconosciuta lasciare il campo vuoto. Se incerta inserire un testo qualsiasi con wikilink manuali, es. '13 o 14 settembre'"). TemplateTiger shows mostly written out forms. Checking some samples from BioQuery as well. Simply joining the two fields may be sufficient. Note "1º" for the first day of the month.

As per subject of the topic, it seems that the "don't load items with the property set" flag doesn't work and harvesttemplates loads all the pages with the specified template regardless the status of the target property. Pietro (talk) 20:05, 21 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

What query do you run? Can you post the permalink of it? --Pasleim (talk) 08:51, 22 April 2016 (UTC)Reply
E.g. this query should return approximately 10 pages. --Edgars2007 (talk) 09:00, 22 April 2016 (UTC)Reply
Ok, I see the bug. Fixed. --Pasleim (talk) 09:07, 22 April 2016 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. Pietro (talk) 10:18, 22 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

Once in a while, it keeps ignoring this flag (even when displayed as set) and ends up loading all items. Not sure if my bookmark is wrong or https breaks it. I tried to clear my cache, but it still happens.

Harvest templates: no target page found edit

Running a query in a wikipedia category with both pages and wikidata items, for some case I get the error "no target page found": any hint? Pietro (talk) 10:18, 22 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

"no target page found" means that on itwiki no article could be found which matches the value of the parameter. For example in it:Palazzo_Ricci_(Capitignano) the value of città is "Mopolino (Capitignano)" but there is no article it:Mopolino (Capitignano) so an error is returned. --Pasleim (talk) 11:30, 22 April 2016 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for your feedback. There is an issue with the Italian template Edificio civile (Civil building). The city field is a string, authomatically transformed to a wiki link in the visualization phase: there is any way to deal with this representation? Pietro (talk) 07:33, 23 April 2016 (UTC)Reply
Try the option "try to match target page even without wikisyntax".
--- Jura 07:54, 23 April 2016 (UTC)Reply
You may also try out the parameter cittàlink instead of città which is apparently used when città is ambiguous. --Pasleim (talk) 08:39, 23 April 2016 (UTC)Reply
oh .. if there is that, you might want to do these first ..

Harvest Templates: check on P31 edit

It might be worth displaying if a constraint is defined or not, e.g.

"Type constraint: items should be an instance of Q5 or its subclasses"

For datatype item properties:

"Value type constraint: values should be an instance of Q123456 or its subclasses."

or

"Value type constraint: none defined. Consider adding one at Property talk:P123"

This as I came across a field that didn't have a constraint check on the value type in place yet.

Harvest Templates and deleted pages edit

Hi Pasleim,

The template I tried [] lists a few deleted pages. Samples:

Somehow the tool can't handle that and gets stuck.
--- Jura 04:59, 25 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

This is probably related: Wikidata:Project_chat#Can.27t_create_new_items_using_PetScan.
--- Jura 12:33, 25 April 2016 (UTC)Reply
if it should happen again that a deleted page is loaded, the tool will not get anymore stuck. --Pasleim (talk) 17:39, 27 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

Harvest Templates and year-precision (9) dates edit

For year-precision, the check for Julian/Gregorian dates isn't of much use (sample: 1640-00-00 < 1926). I think these could be added directly.

Updates stuck edit

Hi Pasleim,

It seems that the two-hourly updates stopped at midnight. Would you check it?
--- Jura 10:27, 25 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

The last nightly version of pywikibot was not properly created. Fortunately every 12 hours a new "nightly" version gets cretead. --Pasleim (talk) 12:24, 25 April 2016 (UTC)Reply
Good to hear. It seems that we don't end up with much of a gap even in 12 hours :)
--- Jura 12:37, 25 April 2016 (UTC)Reply
It seems that the daily update didn't happen either. Same issue?
--- Jura 07:50, 26 April 2016 (UTC)Reply
It's another issue. Tools grid master was shortly down while submitting the update. --Pasleim (talk) 08:51, 26 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

Country edit

These should probably go into country for sport (P1532) instead of country of citizenship (P27).

Grüße, Dani jaem (talk) 12:38, 27 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

Mit 203+-0 verschwindet das ±1. Das Feld Einheit kannst du beim Eintragen von Einwohnerzahlen leer lassen.--Pasleim (talk) 12:56, 27 April 2016 (UTC)Reply
Danke! Es war so einfach... Dani jaem (talk) 13:13, 27 April 2016 (UTC)Reply
