Infrastruktur edit
RfP scheduled to end after 12 May 2023 14:16 (UTC)
- Infrastruktur (talk • contribs • new items • new lexemes • SUL • Block log • User rights log • User rights • xtools)
I have been involved in Wikidata for some time now and I sometimes come across vandalism which I do revert. I'm a young charming(?) individual from the country of Norway. I also patrol a bit, feel free to check out my log. I would like to ask for admin privileges so that I can block obvious instances of vandalism with a measured response. I am also a software developer by trade (heavy on backend experience), and I have offered several tools to the community under an open license, either explicitly or de facto, as well as being involved in query recommendations in WD:RAQ. I have also been involved in property creation, and making sure constraints make sense.
The last month I have been dissecting the Blazegraph source-code for the optimizer and have learned a lot as a result. I have also trawled through numerous academic papers on the subject. My major findings were contributed to the optimization guide. I have also aided other administrators on making the existing infrastructure more usable, something I very much hope to continue. My bot User:Escarbot is working on categories and routinely finds Wikidata pages that are empty because all categories have been removed from the Wikipedias. So I post deletion requests on Wikidata:Requests_for_deletions. Being admin, I could delete these pages myself, resulting in less work for other admins. I have about 130 000 edits on Wikidata and 3 800 000 with my bot. I am admin on the French Wikipedia. --Vargenau (talk) 07:51, 18 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

User:Wolverène has been an active member of our community for a long time. They participate in the main namespace, doing anti-vandal on all namespaces work and doing anti-spam work in requests for deletion. I think we could use more admin help across the board (see [1] for evidence of this) and this seems like an uncontroversial pick. --BrokenSegue (talk) 18:46, 25 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

- Thank you for your trust, BrokenSegue. I accept the nomination. I feel that I'm ready to 'level up' and to get administrator permissions in order to delete/undelete items and to block the WD policy violators - at least, obvious vandals. I have an experience of being test sysop on a couple of smaller Wikipedias, so be sure I won't mess things up. Regards, Wolverène (talk) 18:52, 25 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
- I do not necessarily oppose but I would like to bring for discussion a couple of diffs from 2019: this reaction of the candidate to my warning about edit-warring and this edit summary related to the same episode.--Ymblanter (talk) 18:49, 26 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
- I had not seen this. yeah this edit comment is especially concerning (I won't pretend to understand the subtleties of what the argument was about re: spelling). I would like to hear @Wolverène:'s thoughts on this. This was several years ago... BrokenSegue (talk) 19:00, 26 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
- The comment is actually pro-Ukrainian (not worded in the best way), but edit-warring was concerning, this is why I issued a warning. Ymblanter (talk) 19:05, 26 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
- (ed.conf.) Thanks for pointing. Well, let me clarify. I was involved in the conflict with one of the users nearly three years ago and it's somewhat awkward to recall it because it seems it was my only strong conflict here. The problem was in the spelling of the name of a Crimea-based person - the user insisted in romanization from the Russian-language spelling, which I decided inacceptable because Crimea is recognized as a part of Ukraine by most of countries. I believed that the romanization should be performed from the person's Ukrainian name (especially because the person's main activity happened before 2014), and I switched quickly to an unacceptable way of defending his case, including insults and far-fetched accusations of working for the Kremlin which I could never prove, indeed.
I allowed myself to be rude with the user and I continued this even after the warning. I regret such an ugly behaviour. In my defense, I could say that after 3+ years I wouldn't allow myself to such a kind of expressions and besides that, I became more tolerant to other people's views and I'm ready for discussions in order to keep a content neutral. Being politically biased and rude is disgusting from the side of an administrator, so if I'd become one I would never talk to people like in that 2019 situation.
I fully understand that such a controversial incident may be disappointing to those who supported me within the request, so I'm just asking to accept my sincere repentance. --Wolverène (talk) 19:37, 26 June 2023 (UTC)[reply] - P.S. I restored that topic completely on my talk page, beyond an archive. Of course, after a few years it'd be hard to restart that talking, and I have nothing more to say on how to translate Геннадий Борисов properly into English. --Wolverène (talk) 19:46, 26 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I am a trusted user and admin on species: and outreach: in addition to having many advanced rights on q:en:, s:mul:, etc.. I was one of the initial admins here: Wikidata:Requests for permissions/Administrator/Koavf and would like to help with maintenance tasks. I'd encourage users to see my other request as well from several years ago, my efforts to insert semantic data and internationalization best practices on other WMF wikis, Wikidata:Requests for permissions/Administrator/Koavf 2 and take into account my judgement posting to Wikidata:Administrators' noticeboard, making new items on this project, and using rollback locally. I have made editing Wikidata a part of my regular work flow with related projects (particularly en.wp) and I'd like to think I'd be an asset in fighting vandalism (see my work on en.wq, mul.ws) and doing basic maintenance here (see my work on en.wikt). @Ymblanter: as the closing admin of my second proposal, for visibility and as he encouraged me to try again at a later date. —Justin (koavf)❤T☮C☺M☯ 13:16, 1 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Wikidata! I've been around since 2020 (though I'd been editing as an IP editor since late 2019). I've created quite a few items, 41 properties, and a few lexemes (so I understand exactly how these facets of Wikidata are supposed to work). I feel that I am able to help with processing WD:RFDs and other administrative tasks. I've certainly made some errors in my editing in the past, but I have learned from those mistakes and I will not repeat them. —Tomodachi94 (he/him · talk) 05:02, 14 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

- Oppose Not enough experience with RfD while offering to help out at RfD is not a good sign. Assessing whether a deletion case is trivial or not requires a certain amount of judgement too. In addition I am not seeing counter-vandalism activity. The mishandling of a PfD at User talk:Tomodachi94/Archive/2023#PfD also suggests inexperience.--Jasper Deng (talk) 17:27, 16 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

- Support I am more-less satisfied with the answers. The candidate might've been a bit hurry with applying for adminship right now, would be fine if he is going to start with the trivial deletion requests, it's helpful too. The recent contributions don't look problematic to me. --Wolverène (talk) 06:51, 17 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
- Neutral: I am a bit worried if a potential Wikidata admin has little experience with other Wikimedia projects. In total, only about 90 edits in other Wikimedia projects. For me, Wikidata is a central database of other Wikimedia projects--Estopedist1 (talk) 17:25, 18 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
- Neutral I'm not worried about experience with other projects but I kinda wish you had more experience on RfD here if that's what you plan to help most with. - Initial oppose according to my analysis:
- uh no ! 41 properties only have been created by you and to be completed by important statements (after your visit).
- Of the 5 lexemes created, there are gaps when you are done editing them: incomplete and unreferenced, with unresolved suggestions.
- Your various undos (combined) reach 140 and are fewer than your reverted edits. How to explain that? Mainly your own undos perhaps with 30
mw-reverted
in addition. It doesn't give me confidence. - Your involvement in the Wikidata namespace is currently at 255 edits. If we remove the few editions for rights, you mainly go to Property proposal. It does not give a strong implication and goes against your presentation above.
- Finally, this does not respect Help:Description (a basic guideline in my opinion). Your motivation and your experience are lacking in my opinion. Cordially. ―Eihel (talk) 11:22, 20 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
- "41 properties only have been created by you" - I made a typo in this RFP, I'm very sorry for making that mistake.
- "unresolved suggestions" - Could you elaborate on this a little more? Suggestions by whom?
- "Your motivation[... is] lacking" - I respectfully disagree with this assessment. Please refer to the edit counter by month on XTools; I have consistently been making edits nearing a thousand a month, most of which are by hand. (The exception would be last month, June 2023; I was extremely busy that month, so I didn't have enough time for Wikidata.)

- Hello. You've implied that you would like to work actively at WD:RFD, but as I see you made only 10 edits there. Among the pages nominated there, can you maybe analyze some of them? which ones could've been deleted and which could've been kept by you (if you were an admin)? Just some examples, if you don't mind. Regards, --Wolverène (talk) 05:49, 14 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
- @Wolverène, I'm mostly aiming to deal with more trivial requests. For example:
- Earlier today there were a bunch of broken redirects that someone had requested be deleted. Those are clearly Delete.
- There are a few musicians who do not appear to meet WD:N. We should verify with a Google search that they do not have press coverage, then we should Delete them if they have none.
- There is a scholarly article with the message 'completely incorrect' in the deletion request. This message is very ambiguous, so we should request more information about the article; is the item 'completely incorrect', or is the article itself 'completely incorrect'? In both cases, I would Keep since we usually correct items that have incorrect statements in them; having an item for a 'completely incorrect' article is useful if the article itself has retraction notices, amendments, and other such documents associated with them. (I cannot speak or read Chinese, so I cannot determine if the article is 'completely incorrect'.)

I am also a global rollbacker and global renamer. I've been doing a lot of anti-vandal work recently and I've often run into this user doing good work. Personally I think we could use more help in this space. They often report vandals on the admin noticeboard and I think it would just be easier and better if they could block the vandals themselves. I think it should be fairly uncontrovserial to let them block vandals and protect commonly vandalized pages. I recognize User:FlyingAce could have more experience in general but I think they have more than enough experience in vandal hunting which is what I'd imagine they'd contribute doing. Remember that edit counts are not generally comparable and that 50 vandal reverts takes a lot more time than 1000 quickstatements. --BrokenSegue (talk) 23:32, 1 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

- Thanks for the vote of confidence! I started editing Wikidata after reading complaints in the English Wikipedia regarding undetected vandalism, and it has now become my most-edited project. Besides patrolling Recent Changes and keeping an eye on my watchlist, lately my focus has been cleaning up old vandalism in Spanish; I find that vandalism to the non-English labels and descriptions tends to go undetected for quite a while. As an admin, I would keep working along the same lines – reverting (and blocking) vandals and protecting items as needed, and would only venture to other maintenance areas cautiously. In addition to Wikidata, I am mostly active in the English and Spanish Wikipedias; I am also a global rollbacker and member of the Small Wiki Monitoring Team. I am fluent in Spanish (my native language) and English. I'll be happy to answer any question you may have. :) –FlyingAce✈hello 02:52, 2 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I am applying for an adminship on Wikidata, specifically focusing on my commitment to countering vandalism. I have actively monitored recent changes and promptly addressed vandalism to maintain data quality and community trust. Admin privileges would greatly enhance my ability to combat vandalism effectively, protect sensitive data, and contribute more comprehensively to the platform. I am fully aware of the responsibilities associated with adminship and am eager to continue my efforts in safeguarding Wikidata from disruptive edits. --Saroj (talk) 12:01, 1 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

- We have 11 pro, 3 con, and 2 neutral. There are two conditions for promotion. One is to have 8 pro valid votes, which we clearly have. The other one it to have 75% ratio or higher of pro/con votes. We have 11/14 which is 78.6% > 75%. Now, MisterSynergy voted after the deadline (but before I closed the voting). Even if we discard their vote (which would be a very strict interpretation of policies), we still have 10/13 which is 76.9% > 75%. - Oppose No confidence in this application. I see: "fight with vandalism on Wikidata" (fight against vandalism). It's not with 16 rb and 28 undo in total, and 56 manual revert this year (total: 150 in 11 years) that we're fighting vandalism, imho. A patroller can complete this quota in one patrol session. Then, S8321414 doesn't seem to have the basic concepts of Wikidata yet. Examples :
- This does not respect Help:Label
- The references are always those of zhWP, never an external source, while the information resulting from the data is not referenced on zhWP. Nothing explains the need to have this status. Cordially. ―Eihel (talk) 17:38, 9 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

- I think there's a couple of Stewies that speak mandarin, but I can't remember seing a local administrator that does. Since Wikidata is multilingual, it's obviously good to have administrators that speak languages other than english for the purpose of recognizing vandalism. It's also preferrable that they speak english too since that's the lingua franca here. Infrastruktur (talk) 18:37, 9 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello there, all of you! Today, I am applying for adminship here on Wikidata.
I have been a Wikimedia user since 2019, and I have made a bit over 38,000 edits here on Wikidata. I try to split my activity between WD and the Swedish Wikipedia, and surprisingly I have managed to do that quite well. Most of my activity here has gone towards patrolling RC/SWViewer to revert vandalism, and I am here daily to do so. In some cases I have dealt with mass vandals when there have been no administrators on WD:AN, and in those cases it would be handy to be able to deal with it myself, instead of having to bother the admins at AN each time.
I have experience of both the Wikimedia wikis and the admin tools, as I am an admin on the Swedish Wikipedia, a rollbacker/PCR on the English Wikipedia, and was recently also appointed a global renamer. I have a couple of years of experience of the admin tools and have frequently been patrolling and blocking vandals on my home wiki. Of course I still won't be very strict with blocks, and will only use the blocking tool in situations where it is needed, such as repeated vandalism, libel, block evasion etc..
In short, most of my usage of the tools will go towards handling requests at WD:AN and WD:RFD. I will also likely be keeping an eye on WD:RFOR as well as WD:PC. We currently do not have any Swedish administrators on Wikidata and have not had for four years, so if elected, I'll also be the first one in a while. Cheers and happy holidays! --EPIC (talk) 20:34, 19 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

- Question I noticed that you had most of your edits in a short time span mid 2021 and just recently resumed your activity here on Wikidata. Activity on sv.wp had a peak in mid 2019 to mid 2020, then another smaller peak mid 2021 and then little activity until 10/2023. Now, it’s really none of my business how and when you devote your time and energy to Wikidata but I still wonder what your plans for the foreseeable future re admin and other activity might be. --Emu (talk) 22:35, 19 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
- Thank you for asking! This is true, basically, my activity has been going up and down in the past for some periods due to multiple studies and other things in the real life taking up my time. These studies are now finally done and I have gone back to full activity once again. Like I stated above, most of my time will be going towards counter-vandalism patrolling as well as handling requests at the above mentioned pages, and I have more time to spend on these tasks than what I have had in 2022.
- I hope this answer will satisfy you, do not hesitate to ask more questions if needed. EPIC (talk) 22:52, 19 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
- Question you were granted global-renamer permissions just a day before this request was created (m:Special:Redirect/logid/54527596). Do you think you will have enough time to be active as an administrator here given your new role as a global renamer? --DannyS712 (talk) 05:29, 20 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
- Hello, thank you for your question! The way I see it, it should not be a problem to split my activity between the two roles. My home wiki does not really have constant renaming requests, and the global rename queue requests are quickly handled. Actually, I have managed to split my activity between multiple wikis for the time being. I keep an eye on here, my home wiki, Meta, as well as multiple small wikis since I often use SWViewer which combine them all. And even considering my role as a global renamer, I have still had more than enough time to spend on counter-vandalism patrolling.
- Don't hesitate to ask further questions if you feel like you need to do so. EPIC (talk) 06:57, 20 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
- Okay - to be clear I have no problem with you splitting up your time (given how many wikis I'm active on it would be pretty hypocritical of me to say that you couldn't do the same) I just wanted to make sure that the two brand new roles at once wouldn't be a problem --DannyS712 (talk) 09:07, 20 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

- @EPICYes, you're right, but some people are happy with just one project, such as wikimedia commons or mediawiki. They are happy with what is done in that project. We can't look at just the project they're working on, but how well they're doing on the project they're working on. Examples of How Cross-Wiki Experience Can Be Helpful:
