Edit warring by Archaeodontosaurus

Hi,

For a month now, @Archaeodontosaurus: is Wikidata:Edit warring to force his own images on many items. He replaced or put his photos in addition to the photos given by the museum itself (represented on the Wikimedia projects by Christelle Molinié). While doing so, they're deprecating their work, keep insisting his photos are better and borderline insulting them (see the comment on Special:Diff/1631147794). Objectively, it's not obvious that Archaeodontosaurus photos are better (see Talk:Q27105941 where @Jahl de Vautban: ask to stop the edit warring and @Envlh: agrees in French to keep the museum photo) and anyhow, edit warring is clearly not the solution.

He is acting as single-purpose account on Wikidata (see https://bambots.brucemyers.com/NavelGazer.php?username=Archaeodontosaurus 87 % of property adition is image (P18), almost all of it for his own pictures) and doesn't know exactly the rules (Je revendique seulement le droit de placer l'image en second comme alternative. = "I only claim the right to place the image second as an alternative." but 1. most of the time his change is not an alternative but a removal, 2. the habit/rule is to only put one value on image (P18)). Meanwhile, the museum spent a lot of time opening content, creating these items and improve them (there is still room for improvment of course - as always - but this is already a very good and valuable job).

This is problematic and I guess it's time for admins to intervene as the situation doesn't seem to be improving...

PS: this situation is an extension of same tension about which is the "better" picture on Commons (if I have time, I'll leave a message on Commons AN too ; if so, I'll let you know here). Despite the choice of which photo is actually better, it does not justify for me to launch an edit war.

This IP is cross-wiki long-term abuse Sidowpknbkhihj (w:ja:LTA:HEATHROW) sock and has been blocked on multiple projects; jawiki, enwiki, and meta. In Wikidata, this IP range added sitelink especially article created by Sidowpknbkhihj socks on jawiki such as Special:Diff/1625208433. In addition, this IP has posted violent languageharassment at my user talk page User talk:郊外生活, and this editing trend matches what this IP has done at and m:User talk:郊外生活 (these pages are already semi-protected). I reported this IP to m:SRG#Global block for Sidowpknbkhihj sock 21032022 but the IP has not been globally blocked, but at least judging from contributions on Wikidata, this IP range must be sockpuppet.--郊外生活Kogaiseikatsu (talk,contribs) 17:20, 4 May 2022 (UTC)

We just identify (on fr.wp) the comeback of a long-term vandal and puppet master : Amok 21. His targets are musical articles in fr.wp, it.wp and en.wp. MasterRus21thCentury's property creations

Since being granted the property creator right less than 8 weeks ago, MasterRus21thCentury's property creations have generated a lot of complaints. I had a look through some of them and I'm seeing a lot of issues too.

They have been creating properties which have multiple opposes with no explanation, e.g. here and here.

They have been marking things as "ready" when they're not, e.g. here they marked a property as "ready" less than 24 hours after the proposal was created and here they set a property to "ready" three times, ignoring the comments that the person undoing the edits was making.

They have been creating properties when the proposal has unresolved issues, e.g. here there was an issue raised about the modelling, here there was the suggestion of using an existing property and here there was an unresolved issue about the format and formatter URL.

They have been creating properties that they expressed support for, after being asked here to not do that, e.g. here, here, here and here.

They have been creating properties without adding the constraints, after being asked here to add constraints, e.g. here, here and here.

Everyone makes mistakes sometimes, but this many issues in such a short space of time is concerning and I think we should consider whether it's appropriate for them to continue having property creator rights.

Other editors would probably feel that you have already had that second (or third) chance. Your statement above that you "have frozen this activity in this direction for an indefinite period" is a good idea. While there is nothing particularly problematic about this latest one, I can no longer trust what this user says. I don't think that disputed information is the actual problem here. Based on the conversation I had with User:Wwrick10 on their user talk page, I think there is some real life conflict where the subject is involved, all completely outside Wikimedia projects. However, Wwrick10 claims that the items was deliberately created to harass them which I think is clearly not the case per its revision history. The item creator has created plenty of similar items about researchers and their thesises in the past.

Mind that there is a data item about the subject's PhD thesis at Three essays on economics of predictability of stock returns (Q64136847) which was apparently submitted to this NOVA school in question. That item backlinks to Tymur Gabuniya (Q64136860). The thesis and its metadata can be downloaded from http://hdl.handle.net/10362/11839.

The problem here is that the involved items Q64136860 and Q64136847 both meet the notability requirements per Wikidata:Notability; as much as I am aware the information displayed is also reasonably correct, although very incomplete and not well referenced. page removed with no relevant reason

My wikidata page is removed and had all the right information which is relevant and connected to my German Advisor Professor's page. And it was supported with relevant information according to Mathematics Genealogy Project as an identifier. The wikidata page of my professor has a list of my colleagues and their wikidata pages that based on the same information on Mathematics Genealogy Project! I tried to justify the case to an Egyptian Editor called "باسم" with no hope.

@Ameisenigel: on ar.wiki we always suffer from users who create articles about themselves, or others, that doesn't meet the Notability standards. Many times these pages, as well as their items on Wikidata, aim at confirming the authenticity of their pages on social media or maybe increase search results related to them. Once we delete their pages we also delete its related item on Wikidata. Ping @علاء: for more clarification. By the way, both of us are not Egyptians

Should Linked Data only be a 1 way street with Wikidata.org?

Do we begin to say that storing links inside Wikidata is unwanted and less effective and it is better to only point to Wikidata items/properties instead - making linked data a 1 way street?

There is a discussion on a user talk page https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/User_talk:Ugochimobi#gratisdata.miraheze.org_spam that needs some thought on Wikidata's policies regarding "linked data and linking to external databases". I myself see gratisdata as one of just many federated Wikibase instances that continue to popup that start small and are trying to serve individual and specialized domains and then link back with Wikidata.org to fulfill linked data's mission.

Storing facts in Wikidata.org might raise concerns, but what about non-facts and metadata (linked data) around properties? Isn't knowing that 6 other Wikibase instances also share a similar property to Wikidata.org somewhat useful to many scientists and researchers? Especially if additional knowledge can be gathered from those other Wikibase instances? If we do not allow storing links inside Wikidata.org, then do we not run a risk of killing linked data altogether? Or is the answer NO we do not kill linked data because federated querying could help with reverse discovery completely? - I personally cannot say YES/NO to this question yet.

If we say in our recent talks, agendas, and mission that external Wikibase instances and databases can be useful fact stores then where do we draw the line of allowing them to store property links or not? If we disallow the practice then don't we ultimately ruin efforts of linked data's mission and discourage publishers from even beginning federated instances to carve out their own niche? Who determines that some external Wikibase instance or external database has "un-useful data" and thus is not notable and is denied storing metadata (linked data) in Wikidata.org?

What are the risks on both sides if linked data is only 1 way - only allowing pointing toward Wikidata.org and not allowing links to be stored inside Wikidata.org?
