Wikiproyecto Libros
El objetivo del Wikiproyecto Libros es:
- definir un conjunto de propiedades que puede ser utilizado por fichas de libros, plantillas de cita en Wikipedia plantillas de libros en Commons y en Wikisource.
- mapear e importar todos los datos relevantes que actualmente están dispersos en Commons, Wikipedia y Wikisource.
- establecer métodos para interactuar con estos datos desde diferentes proyectos.
Propiedades bibliográficas
Utilizamos el modelo de Requisitos Funcionales para Registros Bibliográficos (FRBR, el famoso marco conceptual ampliamente utilizado en bibliotecología) para dividir las propiedades de Libros en 2 conjuntos. El modelo FRBR subraya el hecho que puedes ver un libro en 4 maneras diferentes, o niveles: como un trabajo, como una expresión, una manifestación o un elemento.
Dentro de los proyectos de Wikimedia, no necesitamos todos estos cuatro: por ejemplo, cuando Wikipedia tiene un artículo sobre un libro, frecuentemente es una vista del "trabajo" (i.e. la Biblia, Pinocho, Hamlet son considerados como "trabajos creativos", los cuales han sido incorporados en varias traducciones y ediciones y diferentes medios).
En Wikisource se utiliza una edición particular para una obra (a veces tenemos más de una). Como tenemos diferentes Wikisources, también tenemos traducciones para poder dar cabida a lectores de todo el mundo.
Dado que difumina estas diferencias, el elemento libro (book (Q571)) debe evitarse (consulta la página de discusión del elemento).
Para no complicar demasiado, no usamos los términos «expresión» o «manifestación» del FRBR, dado que el límite entre las definiciones no es fácil de determinar. De manera que sintetizamos estas dos definiciones FRBR en una: «edición» (en contraste, el modelo de datos bibliográficos Bibframe combina las capas "obra" y "expresión" en una sola entidad "obra"). Por tanto, se ha utilizado un marco de dos capas, compuesto de obra y edición, para crear propiedades de libros en Wikidata.
Propiedades para elementos sobre obras
Estas propiedades son para el primer elemento que representa un libro (nivel de trabajo del FRBR). Están pensadas para ser empleadas principalmente para ser utilizados en elementos enlazados a páginas de Wikipedia.
Las obras deben ser instancias de written work (Q47461344) o una de sus subclases.

Propiedades para elementos de una edición
Estas propiedades son para el elemento que representa la edición de un libro (nivel de expresión o manifestación del FRBR). Se utilizan fundamentalmente en las ediciones de libros usadas como fuentes, por lo que deben usarse para elementos enlazados a ediciones de Wikisource.
Observar que cada edición de un libro tendría que tener un elemento de Wikidata distinto. Si el contenido (prefacio, epílogo o ilustración), paginación (número de página), editor, o cambios de sitio de la publicación, un elemento nuevo tendría que ser creado para esa edición. Si un libro es una reimpresión idéntica de una edición anterior (ningún cambio en el mencionó propiedades), no necesita un elemento nuevo.
Las ediciones deben ser instancias de version, edition or translation (Q3331189) o una de sus subclases.

Propiedades de ejemplares
Hay un número de artículos de wikipedia que tratan de una copia única de un libro la cual tiene cierta relevancia por algún motivo. Ver Lincoln Bible (Q1816474) y las biblias listadas en Category:Individual Bibles (Q8546779). Estos elementos necesitarán propiedades diferentes de aquellas utilizadas para una obra literaria.
Donde hay solo una copia de una obra literaria entonces la página de wikidata puede necesitar ambos conjuntos de propiedades.

Propiedades de manuscritos
Los manuscritos son copias únicas de obras literarias, así que un manuscrito no es lo mismo que una obra literaria. Todos los elementos de manuscritos necesitan instance of (P31) con uno entre estos: manuscript (Q87167), illuminated manuscript (Q48498), codex (Q213924), miscellaneous manuscript (Q2217259), palimpsest (Q274076), manuscript fragment (Q30103158). Por favor especificar el material de escritura para made from material (P186): papyrus (Q125576), paper (Q11472), leather (Q286), parchment (Q226697), shard (Q1463658), vellum (Q378274). La persona que escribe el manuscrito se indica con calligrapher (P6819): a menudo es diferente del autor de la obra literaria author (P50).
