request for autoconfirmed user role for Q641676

To whom it concerns, I would like to be able to edit Q641676, which is about the organisation I am working for, to show the potential of using WikiData to describe organisations like ours. However it is autoprotected and I have not made edits before on WikiData so I do not have the autoconfirmed role yet. Can I get this role, at least for this item please.

Kind regards, Wouter

Getting Pages Protected

Hello, My name is Jakob Unruh and I am an employee at Sam Houston State University. We are in the middle of a project to use WikiData as an aggregate for our Natural History collections. We believe that data should be open and accessible for anyone to use, however, we don't want people to be able to manipulate the data that is being aggregated by our university. Is there any way that we can have a list of limited access pages associated with our University, or is there a process that we can have only registered, approved users have access to it? I am new to Wikipedia editing and would like help with figuring out the proper course of action.  – The preceding unsigned comment was added by JakobUnruh1 (talk • contribs) at 16:57, September 5, 2019‎ (UTC).

No. Wikidata is published under the Creative Commons Public Domain Dedication 1.0, which allows people to copy, modify, distribute and perform the data, even for commercial purposes, without asking for permission. Esteban16 (talk) 17:11, 5 September 2019 (UTC)

Some entities might be salvageable, but the user's activity on the whole seems to be SEO spam. Arlo Barnes (talk) 19:15, 3 September 2019 (UTC)

Really, we need discuss this. 17,389 items created, all with same form: companies, some statements, ID from social networks. All without sitelinks or any reference. This account edit only Wikidata, something unnusual for new users. Items well constructed (maybe to cause impression of valid entries?). I have impression of SEO. Rafael (stanglavine) msg 23:50, 3 September 2019 (UTC)
Indeed, it's suspicious. I'd be in favor of deleting everything. Yet we need to check whether Wikidata:Notability takes into account this case. If not, you should probably created a RFC to update the criteria. Pamputt (talk) 05:58, 4 September 2019 (UTC)
I am not sure this is uniform, but the item I checked had a twitter username and a facebook id. I think this does satisfy our current notability requirements, but I agree an RFC would be useful to see if this is something we want to continue supporting. Also we should maybe encourage this user to supply something more authoritative as a source - Bloomberg Company id for example. Are they checking for duplicates before creating new items? ArthurPSmith (talk) 13:24, 4 September 2019 (UTC)
Note this user seems to have made many useful updates to existing entries too - on August 18 at least. ArthurPSmith (talk) 13:29, 4 September 2019 (UTC)
I don't know if Facebook and Twitter can supply WD:N, see: "[...] can be described using serious and publicly available references". Social networks are serious reference? Rafael (stanglavine) msg 16:46, 4 September 2019 (UTC)
Social network handles do not imply notability; if that was the case, anything would be notable. We usually require subject-independent listings in external databases with a Wikidata property. —MisterSynergy (talk) 17:24, 4 September 2019 (UTC)
"This account edit only Wikidata" should not be a factor in blocking. Good grief. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 10:39, 5 September 2019 (UTC)

YouTube channel ID and "possible vandalism" tag filter

Being a rollbacker and constantly watching for the recent changes with "possible vandalism" tag filter, I always observe some amount of changes to Property:P2397. I never check these, but I guess that (most of them) are marked as vandalism erroneously, just because of addition of what looks like a random string. Could this be fixed? I guess (feel free to prove me wrong) that this property could just be an exception to the filter that checks for addition of random strings and garbage. — Mike Novikoff 07:17, 7 September 2019 (UTC)

A little risky, IMHO, but could be useful. This could be tested for a while and based on results the exception can be added indefinitely. But I have poor knwoledge of filters, therefore I ask another administrator to do so. Esteban16 (talk) 01:19, 9 September 2019 (UTC)

I wanted to bring this to your attention; we have evidence that User:جواد, who is a sysop here on wikidata, has engaged in undisclosed paid editing (UPE) both on fawiki and enwiki. Indeed, given his previous blocks (for other reasons) on fawiki, I have blocked him indefinitely there. While I strongly believe that a user's contributions (and mistakes) in one project should not independetly determine their access and status in another project, I still feel obligated to let the wikidata community know. Respectfully, Huji (talk) 00:23, 11 September 2019 (UTC)

@Huji: Thanks for letting us know. Is there any evidence of either a) using multiple accounts or b) undisclosed paid editing on this wiki? --Rschen7754 00:37, 11 September 2019 (UTC)
At this time, the answer is no and no. Huji (talk) 00:41, 11 September 2019 (UTC)
@Huji: It turns out that he was desysopped for inactivity in 2014, so that resolves that part of this. Given the low activity over the last year I'm not inclined to support any further action locally. --Rschen7754 00:44, 11 September 2019 (UTC)
I was unaware; thanks for letting me know.
I report this here only on an FYI basis, and not to request or recommend any specific actions. Huji (talk) 00:50, 11 September 2019 (UTC)
Actually, may I suggest that you edit User:جواد (which is edit protected at the sysop level) so that it does not falsely advertise him as an "Admin"? Huji (talk) 00:52, 11 September 2019 (UTC)
Seems this was done already. --Rschen7754 04:47, 11 September 2019 (UTC)

I take benefit of this topic to ask you where it is written that undisclosed paid editing are forbidden? Is it a wiki rule or does it come from the WMF? Pamputt (talk) 06:04, 11 September 2019 (UTC)

Comes from WMF, see foundation:Terms of Use, section 4. —MisterSynergy (talk) 07:02, 11 September 2019 (UTC)

Block of bot Edoderoobot

Sunday night my bot got blocked for a week due to an "edit war"??? and "vandalism"??? ... As the sysop also blocked all corresponding ip-addresses with it, I can only make edits with my regular account when I'm at my work, and because all talk pages are blocked with it, I can not discuss about the block either (except when at my work). On top of that, the blocking sysop is not available for any talk, which makes me feel like the whole block is a punnishment, but I don't know what for. Is this the way blocking a bot is meant to be done, and what is the purpose of blocking the user with it??? Edoderoo (talk) 11:00, 10 September 2019 (UTC)

PS: I sent the sysop an email yesterday afternoon, but without any response. If I could not edit on my work, I would have to wait for a full week without any communication. I'm not sure how this will help the project in general. Edoderoo (talk) 11:02, 10 September 2019 (UTC)
@ChristianKl: could you give here your opinion? Meanwhile, I remove the contrain on the latest IP address. Pamputt (talk) 11:16, 10 September 2019 (UTC)
I lifted the block for User:Edoderoobot completely, as User:Edoderoo is available and responsive. I am sure he takes care that the edits in question will not happen again. Thanks, MisterSynergy (talk) 11:37, 10 September 2019 (UTC)
Thanks! Edoderoo (talk) 14:08, 10 September 2019 (UTC)
@ChristianKl: Next time whenever you block a bot like this, please block with autoblock disabled so it doesn't affect the operator or worse, the entirety of WMF Labs. --Rschen7754 07:15, 11 September 2019 (UTC)
Okay, I will remove autoblock the next time. I wasn't aware that it blocks the user account as well from acting when I block a bot. ChristianKl10:59, 12 September 2019 (UTC)

Slowking4 sockpuppets

User:Slowking4 has been making edits on Wikidata using undeclared accounts that have been confirmed at ENWP to be sockpuppets: User:Arcituno, User:Beetstraw, User:Brianfairfax, User:Gordonflack, User:Henryshirley, User:Marthacustis, User:Marthadandridge, User:Muleshoemoment, User:Nelliejellie, User:Opelroved2, User:Sherwoodhall, User:Sudowoodoo, User:Vernonchernon, User:Voidessen, User:Widowswail. Arifur Rahman sockpuppetry

I've noticed over the last few days that items associated with the Bangladeshi-Norwegian cartoonist who titles the name of this talk page section have made it to the list of popular items over the last few days. When looking at their edit history, however, it seems that the accounts which have edited these items exclusively edit such items and operate in very similar ways: for instance, prior to my removing it, the item for the cartoonist had "cartoonist" as an alias, and the item for a magazine edited by this cartoonist had "magazine" as an alias. I suspect that there may have been a large amount of sockpuppetry going on, not just here but possibly on other wikis, and to this end I've submitted a request on Meta to see if the accounts are indeed related. In the interim, however, opinions on further action in this regard are welcome. Mahir256 (talk) 05:18, 16 September 2019 (UTC)

Update on Soweego bot block

Quoting Wikidata:Administrators'_noticeboard/Archive/2019/08#Please_block_Soweego_bot:

It's unclear why the bot adds "stated in" to value for Twitter accounts it adds.

See updates at Topic:V6cc1thgo09otfw5.

There are three approvals for this bot, but there don't seem to be any about Twitter accounts.

All requests do point to a link with the list of target catalogs, which do include Twitter.

The link is in the Function details section, see Wikidata:Requests_for_permissions/Bot/Soweego_bot, Wikidata:Requests_for_permissions/Bot/Soweego_bot_2, and Wikidata:Requests_for_permissions/Bot/Soweego_bot_3.

Can someone explain to the user or stop him otherwise from deleting references in statements. [3][4]. --- Jura 11:05, 6 September 2019 (UTC)

It seems you already get an explanation by Sapphorain at least for one example here. So why do bring this topic here withtout talking with him/her before? Pamputt (talk) 06:13, 11 September 2019 (UTC)
I think I did my part. Why couldn't I ask an admin to explain it to them? It's not really my function to ensure that users don't go through Wikidata deleting stuff .. we have admins who volunteer for that. --- Jura 06:20, 11 September 2019 (UTC)
(1) When an exact birthdate has a correct reference + Gemeinsame Normdatei, I erase the latter, since Gemeinsame Normdatei provides only the year of birth. When it has only the Gemeinsame Normdatei reference I erase the exact date and leave only the year.
(2) When a so called « reference » is a wikipedia or wikidata page I erase it: a wiki cannot be a reliable source for another wiki.
(3) When a page contains unsourced assertions I tend to erase them, especially when these unsourced assertions are directly imported through an infobox template into a wikipedia page which is also mostly unsourced. Sapphorain (talk) 07:18, 11 September 2019 (UTC)
I think there may be a misunderstanding of references that are in Russian or German.
If you feel this novel approach is important, maybe you could bring it up for discussion on project chat.
In general, instead of manually adding always the same tertiary reference, adding a secondary or primary reference is preferable. That last part is my POV. --- Jura 02:50, 12 September 2019 (UTC)
"since Gemeinsame Normdatei provides only the year of birth". It should be noted that GND often has more precise dates, but they aren't necessarily shown directly in the entry on the website. In case of Edmond Boissier (Q34430), for example, the MARC 21 (Q3919686) and Turtle (Q114409) versions of the entry - linked on the right hand side of the GND entry - state "25.05.1810" and "1810-05-25" respectively as the date of birth. --Kam Solusar (talk) 17:06, 21 September 2019 (UTC)

Blatant defamatory accusations against me by user Wolverène

Timeline of events:

  1. User:Wolverène changed English-language label of Q67389917 (amateur astronomer Gennadiy Borisov) to "Hennadiy Borysov", a romanization of Ukrainian-language version of Gennadiy Borisov's name. This version is not used in any media publications about Gennadiy Borisov and his discoveries.
  2. I have reverted the English-language label to "Gennadiy Borisov" (and "Gennady Borisov" in the "Also known as" field).
  3. I've also made changes to Russian-language and Ukrainian-language labels to use short versions (without patronymic) in the "Label" field, and long versions (with patronymic) in the "Also known as" field.
  4. Because I've made multiple edits at once, the interface warned me that the maximum number of edits was exceeded and I will need to redo them after a few minutes.
  5. At some point after this, unbeknown to me, my reverts & changes were reverted by User:Wolverène.
  6. After a short period of time, I have returned to the browser tab with the opened Wikidata page and clicked "Publish" again to finish updating the fields. This action overwrote User:Wolverène reverts of my reverts & changes.
  7. I have decided to look at the Revision history to find out why the changes didn't show up and saw User:Wolverène's edit comments.
  8. I've decided to write an explanation of my initial reverts to User:Wolverène at the talk page Talk:Q67389917.
  9. Once I've finished writing my explanation and posted, I saw that another comment was already posted at Talk:Q67389917 by User:Wolverène.

The user User:Wolverène:

  1. Insinuates I might be an "Olgino troll" (a paid poster hired by a company suspected of close links to the Russian government).
  2. Insinuates I might be pushing "pro-Russia POV in the situation about Crimea", even though I simply reverted his changes to Gennadiy Borisov's name to use the one that is used in the English-language news reports and academic sources.
  3. Attempts to "prove" his defamatory claims by saying I can't believe that a newcomer user is able to effectively monitorize another users' edits. Even though the "Watch this page" checkbox is right there above the "Publish changes" button. (I'm not a complete novice as I have been editing Wikipedia anonymously for years, but I am a novice when it comes to the functions available to registered editors.)

I consider User:Wolverène's behaviour extremely aggressive, defamatory, and request a strong response. Accusing other editors of being some sort of "government-paid infiltrators" because of a few reverts is not something that should be accepted on Wikimedia projects. I also request that the defamatory accusations against me are removed from the talk page and from the revision history of the talk page.

As a separate issue (please tell me if I need to make a separate post for this), I request assistance in resolving my dispute with User:Wolverène regarding the English-language spelling of Gennadiy Borisov's name. I couldn't find a single English-language article that referred to Gennadiy Borisov as "Hennadiy Borysov", so User:Wolverène's changes from "Gennadiy Borisov" to "Hennadiy Borysov" are against COMMONNAME.

Apologies for the long post, this is the first time I'm attacked on a Wikimedia project and I'm not sure how to properly report it, so I've decided to provide the full timeline of events. — UnladenSwallow (talk) 06:35, 27 September 2019 (UTC)

  • I'm still wondering where did you get so many experience in knowledge of Wikimedia policies, of how to monitorize edits, and in understanding what WD:Administrators' noticeboard is if you made only ~250 edits globally in all WM projects. I've just got a certain impression about your contribution, it's suspiciousness not a consistent defamation. --Wolverène (talk) 07:21, 27 September 2019 (UTC)
1. The answer to you question is in the post above. Did you read it?
2. Your opening comment on Talk:Q67389917 is an extreme insult, a defamation, and a call for other users to distrust me and monitor me (Keep an eye on user nicknamed UnladenSwallow).
3. I value honesty and integrity above all else. Never in my life have I expressed an opinion I did not hold for a financial reimbursement. All my views are mine. Always. That is why I find your insinuations extremely insulting. You know nothing about me, and have not had any interactions with me before this incident, and yet you have immediately insinuated that I prostitute my views and my persona for money – all based on two reverts of your edits, which, by the way, were against Wikipedia/Wikimedia policy (en:WP:COMMONNAME). Also, your edit comments in the revision history of Q67389917 show that your edits are politically motivated, which is forbidden on Wikipedia/Wikimedia (en:WP:NPOV, en:WP:ADVOCACY). — UnladenSwallow (talk) 08:26, 27 September 2019 (UTC)
Comment English wikipedia policies are not necessarily applicable here; for how to label items in Wikidata see Help:Label. Alternate spellings of a name should be added in the aliases box, and note "If there is something important about a particular name then that name should be in a statement as well as in the label, even if this looks like the same information is being given in two different ways - we have a lot of different properties for names of items." ArthurPSmith (talk) 12:38, 27 September 2019 (UTC)
@ArthurPSmith, Mahir256, Ymblanter, Pamputt, Esteban16, Rafael: Thanks for the link. I have no objections to the alternate spellings being added to the aliases box. The dispute is over the label. Help:Label says: Wikidata is not a forum for pushing points of view, and should try to reflect information both accurately and neutrally. Edit warring over labels is not acceptable. and further: Because the aim is to use the name that an item would be known by to the most readers, labels should reflect common usage. Thus, ADVOCACY, NPOV, EW, COMMONNAME rules apply to Wikidata as well, and my points still stand:
  • Q67389917 was created on September 12, 2019 and had the English-language label "Gennady Borisov".
  • On September 27, 2019, at 02:57, Wolverène changed the English-language label from a common name (googling "Gennady Borisov" "comet" returns 16,700 results) to a name that has 1 search result for the person in question (googling "Hennadiy Borysov" "comet" returns 1 result, an article on French Wikipedia), thus breaking COMMONNAME.
  • Two hours later, I changed the label back to the common name. Seven minutes after my edit, Wolverène reverted my changes, providing the following explanations in his revert comments: 1 1) Luxembourg doesn't support the annexation of Crimea, so his name transcribed from Ukrainian, 2 how often are you hearing the sound [g] in Ukrainian given/family names?, 3 I will continue undoing your edits until the civilized world recognize Crimea as Russia's terittory and that Russian is (officially) the main language there/. as well as in his comment on the talk page: 4 calling him with the Russian name is a kind of support of Russia's aggression towards Ukraine. These comments show a clear breach of ADVOCACY and NPOV by Wolverène.
  • I have abstained from participating in an edit war (I made the second change before I knew about Wolverène's revert) and started a discussion on the talk page, explaining my motivation for the changes. Wolverène has chosen not to participate in the discussion, instead posting an ad hominem comment at the top of the talk page, insinuating that I am a paid poster shilling for the Russian government who will push pro-Russia POV in the situation about Crimea, and calling on other users to distrust me and monitor my activities: Keep an eye on user nicknamed UnladenSwallow. This is not a simple ad hominem attack ("you're dumb"), but a defamatory comment aimed at hurting my reputation. I have done absolutely nothing to provoke such accusations, so this can't possibly be a case of honest misunderstanding. This is just unhinged, out-of-control behaviour by an editor who is him-/herself very much engaged in political activism/advocacy, yet accuses me of the same, without any basis whatsoever, merely for correcting his/her disruptive edits.
I'm not going to let this slide. I love Wikipedia, and I don't want a few bad apples to ruin the place by engaging in toxic behavior that has no consequences. I ask the administrators to: 1) explain to Wolverène that throwing grave accusations against other editors without any basis whatsoever is unacceptable, 2) delete Wolverène's defamatory insinuations about me on the talk page Talk:Q67389917, as well as from the revision history of the talk page, 3) restore Q67389917's English-language label to one that reflects common usage ("Gennady Borisov"), 4) consider limiting Wolverène's access to Q67389917 until he demonstrates a firm understanding of the principles laid out in Help:Label: no POV pushing, neutral & accurate reflection of information, no edit warring, labels reflecting common usage; as well as a firm understanding that any possible disagreements must be resolved in a respectful manner on the corresponding talk page. — UnladenSwallow (talk) 17:08, 27 September 2019 (UTC)
I warned the user, pretty clear POV edits.--Ymblanter (talk) 20:24, 27 September 2019 (UTC)
@Ymblanter: Thank you for resolving the issue with the English-language label. I also ask that you (or another administrator) warn Wolverène regarding his defamatory comments about me on Talk:Q67389917: Keep an eye on user nicknamed UnladenSwallow, he might be so-called "Olgino troll" who will push pro-Russia POV in the situation about Crimea. He clearly doesn't feel any remorse about accusing me of being a paid poster – without any basis whatsoever, just because he's "got a certain impression" – and calling on other users to mistrust me. Such comments are clearly abusive, and there has to be some sort of warning regarding this. — UnladenSwallow (talk) 00:28, 29 September 2019 (UTC)

Repeated adding fake software version item

User:KlaasZ4usV repeatedly adds non-existing version item (3.30.0) for SQLite (Q319417), referring to a draft state of sqlite repository (which is an equivalent of master branch) while no such version was officially released, even after explanation from two wikidata users that this is not correct. @Jura1: Almost all of these WikiProjects participants page have edits where uses try to add themselves but end up doing some mess, but still we should assume good faith as this is not intended vandalism. On main page we ask people to join a wikiproject and on the other hand we protect them doesn't make sense to me. IMHO an abuse filter is better way to stop those IPs editing such pages. ‐‐1997kB (talk) 02:21, 2 October 2019 (UTC)
The edit you refer to was not (meant to be) vandalism and here applies AGF as well, doesn't it? A smart abuse filter would indeed be more effective than protection, but what would you call abusive in these participation list? adding IP-adresses does not make sense, doesn't it so encourage people editing anonymously to register is better. Semiprotection is such an encouraging act: You want to take part in projects? Great, but at least register an accountname: it's free and makes you even more anonymous
Ave, Klaas `Z4␟` V07:47, 2 October 2019 (UTC) P.S. it's now 2 - 1 @Jura1: and me against @1997kB: More participants interested to play this game?

Hello, there is a little edit war there. I'm sorry but I guess you will have to block me unless the page is restored (and stay) in this state, as it is out of question that the work done by me be removed, as the informations are fully in the current scope of taxon author (P405) and of Wikidata. See also [5]. Christian Ferrer (talk) 11:44, 30 September 2019 (UTC)

Note that I try to explaind why the removal of the information is not a good thing. And in the extend that the removal of the infos have direct consequences (result of querries, potential taxon boxes of external projects, ect...), and that the only damage for the other users is just "their point of view" that is not applied, I don't, and will likely not easily understand, that the informations can be removed. Therefore I will reinstall the information as many times it will be necessary, hence my senetence "I'm sorry but I guess you will have to block me". Regards, Christian Ferrer (talk) 11:55, 30 September 2019 (UTC)
For the short story: see this diff. The point is Carl (1902) described Strongylosoma nigrovirgatum (Strongylosoma nigrovirgatum (Q6444976)). A junior author C. A. W. Jeekel (1965) moved the species in the genus Pogonosternum (hence Pogonosternum nigrovirgatum (Q69026880)).
I do agree with Christian Ferrer that the way Succu introduced the data about Jeekel on the recombinated name was clumsy, however I argue that stating Carl as author for the recombination (as Christian did) was inappropriate too (see Wikidata talk:WikiProject Taxonomy#Removal of taxon author and date informations). There are different points of view here, but the good news is we all seem to show good faith and there is an actual discussion ongoing on the WikiProject Taxonomy. It wouldn't be helpful having any of you two blocked to find a solution to this case, and I do not see the point of this thread. Totodu74 (talk) 13:02, 30 September 2019 (UTC)
Please see my response over there. BTW: I appreciate the work of both of you here. --Succu (talk) 15:31, 30 September 2019 (UTC)
  • Happy if my work is appreciated, and I appreciate you and your work too, however you have found the wrong person from which you can remove the work he has done. I'm sorry but I added the exact info needed within the scope of taxon author (P405). The exact purpuse of this property is written in the property descriptions (in its proposal and in the current property page). Will I seriously have to write it here? fine, ok: "the author(s) of the first scientific description" in the property page "he author(s) that (optionally) may be cited with the scientific name" + "also know as author citation/described by".
Who have described the species Pogonosternum nigrovirgatum? you? me? No, it's Johann Carl
What is the property whose purpose is to retrieve this information?... a small clue: it is marked a bit above.
Where is there a begining of consensus? heu... no where is a begining of discussion about a potential change of the scope of the said property, e.g. "we don't use anymore this property for the taxa items that are not the original combination? as far I'm aware : nowhere.
after answering all these questions, and knowing that I expressed my disagreement with argument, and the very first time the info was removed. The fact that you both insist by trying removing again and again the infos, is not like you enforce your point of view?
Why this property is currently useful in this specific item or elsewhere in the taxa item?
you will remove (wrongly) one or more result(s) from this querry example, or in all other querries where this property will be involved....
and you will affect the info retrieved with c:Template:Wikidata Infobox, and maybe some box of other projects too.
  • @Totodu74: This is the second time that you remove infos that I added, I tried to explain why the infos were relevant, and your first answer was "Salut Christian Ferrer. Je ne compte pas livrer une bataille sur ce point, mais ça me paraît vraiment nul de faire ça.", the discussion did not finish well but at least you did not try to enforce your point of view. Now this time you did it. My advice is that the next time that you visit an item to remove some infos, is to think two time before doing it. The first time was a hazard (I hope it), the second, a coincidence (I hope it again), as for the third, let's hope it never happens... I note that you added this, ok fine. I can even support a property proposal to have a qualifier to retrieve the author of the recombination
  • @Succu: "I appreciate the work", ok fine. Begin by not to remove it.

For my part, it's forgets. But be careful both of you if you remove the properties that I added, whose values are good, and whose usage is not prohibited, and moreover whose usage is somewhat useful, re-read the discussion if you did not understood. Otherwise we will go to edit wars that will lead to the block of my account, or of yours, or both. Best regards, Christian Ferrer (talk) 17:55, 30 September 2019 (UTC)

Dear @Christian: Do you really think this is the right place to discuss this matter? To solve Code (= nomenclature code (Q2673092)) dependent problems? Problems that more or less easily resolved by Wikipedia:Lua (Q6811431)? --Succu (talk) 19:58, 30 September 2019 (UTC)
@all: Please comment at Wikidata talk:WikiProject Taxonomy#ICZN: Recommendation 51G. Citation of person making new combination. Danke. --Succu (talk) 20:01, 30 September 2019 (UTC)
@Everyone: For the time being I have protected the item until there's a consensus between all of you. @Christan: Please don't use comments such as be careful both of you if you remove the properties that I added and we will go to edit wars that will lead to the block of my account, or of yours, or both. as such comments only gonna fuel the situation to be worse. I hope you guys reach at a consensus with mutual understanding. ‐‐1997kB (talk) 03:50, 1 October 2019 (UTC)
@Succu: Is it the right place? you remove my work while you know I disagree, while it is done in the exact same way than in many and many other items, and your comment is "sorry, let's discuss first", so you remove my work and it is to me to discuss first? the scope of this property is very clear "the author(s) of the first scientific description", and has never be changed. Final point. If you want to reduce the scope of the property to the items that are original combinations, or to extend the scope of this property to the authors of the recombination, in order to reflect ICZN: Recommendation 51G or whatever else, fine, but gain a community consensus first, or make proposal for new properties.
@1997kB: if they remove the infos that I sometimes make several hours to find, and that the infos are stored in the exact right properties, then, yes they will have to be carefull to not to remove its. When the item will be unprotected, if someone remove the value stored within this property, whose scope is currently exactly "the author(s) of the first scientific description", then sorry but the conflict re-start. If one want to change the scope of the property, discuss it firt, that is not me who want to change the scope, and therefore that is not to me to discuss first. Note that this property is used in this way in many and many items...(how many exactly, do you know?) so I'm not sure it is a good idea to change its scope, but rather to create a new property, if it is really needed. Christian Ferrer (talk) 04:58, 1 October 2019 (UTC)
oh and I will not discuss about it anywhere, the value added by me have been removed without prior discussion, then I asked help in the Wikidata talk:WikiProject Taxonomy, and the answer was the removal of the same values by another (experimented) user. And it is to me to discuss fist? It that the way how one invit me to discuss? one remove my work, and if I'm not happy, I got as answer "hey discuss first dear Christion"!? that is a joke? This is bound to ruffle group feathers, now I will not talk about it anywhere. End of discussion for me, I have said all I had to, and will not answer to pings that comes from here or from Wikidata talk:WikiProject Taxonomy. Best regards, Christian Ferrer (talk) 05:26, 1 October 2019 (UTC)
Christian Ferrer: the conflict does not have to re-start. We can fix it by discussing, not by claiming we are right from the beginning and no discussion is required, by whining and threatening others.
You wrote: Will I seriously have to write [the scope of taxon author (P405)] here? fine, ok: "the author(s) of the first scientific description".
  • Precisely, what is so hard for you to understand in these few words? Let me highlight it for you: "the first scientific description" (in French: "la première description scientifique"). The property does not concern subsequent recombinations.
You also wrote: Who have described the species Pogonosternum nigrovirgatum? you? me? No, it's Johann Carl.
  • Johann Carl originally described a species he named Strongylosoma nigrovirgatum. This species was subsequently moved into different genera (incl. Pogonosternum), by other authors than Carl (1902).
Additionnally, 1) Basic principles of databases curation discourage duplicate data; 2) Biological nomenclature requires to handle differently author names of original descriptions —here "Strongylosoma nigrovirgatum Carl, 1902" with no brackets— vs. those of recombinations —here "Pogonosternum nigrovirgatum (Carl, 1902)" with brackets. I cannot fathom your insistance for keeping duplicate data in the database while it is clearly the external usage (for instance the Commons Wikidata Infobox) that have to adapt to the data structure. Wikidata does not have to keep duplicate data and mess up the data structure to facilitate crappy external usages. Totodu74 (talk) 09:22, 1 October 2019 (UTC)
  • What is this??!? seriously? I'm done here. Yes Johann Carl gaves the first descrtiption of the species named Strongylosoma nigrovirgatum, that is the same as Pogonosternum nigrovirgatum, therefore Johann Carl gaves indeed the the first descrtiption of Pogonosternum nigrovirgatum, that is a fact. But sorry to have disturbed every body. Do what you want, my activity will be limited to sitelinks, Commons cat and to create a few taxa items needed. No any chance that I touch anymore to properties such as "taxon author" which I am (still) unable to understand the meaning. Christian Ferrer (talk) 10:55, 1 October 2019 (UTC)
