EagleOwlRecords (talk • contribs • deleted contribs • logs • filter log • block user • block log • SUL (for IP: GUC))Reasons: Constant vandalism on Harry Styles (Q3626966), plus creating a bunch of non notable pages related to some Brazilian people named Bounce -see Dylan Bounce (Q91173336)- Biagio2103 (talk) 14:35, 27 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked user from editing Harry Styles (Q3626966) and Q91173336 for a year. Seems to have made constructive edits as well. Lymantria (talk) 17:51, 27 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
In cases where a user makes a mixture of constructive and destructive edits, it's always disappointing to see them appear here with a red talk page link. Why not at least give them a warning? Bovlb (talk) 18:10, 27 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The "Bounce" pages have been deleted before - Wikidata:Requests for deletions/Archive/2019/11/19#Q74603880 links to some of them. Q91173336 is probably the same as Q59924368 and Q24070557; not sure if anything has changed that would make them notable. Peter James (talk) 21:23, 27 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
That would be a candidate for Wikidata:Requests for deletions then. At first glance the item seems to have some identifiers that might suggest notability, but need a check. Lymantria (talk) 05:24, 28 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

105.112.104.214 / 105.112.105.71 edit

Those are both Nigerian IP addresses and the user behind them doesn't seem to be interested in contributing to Wikidata. I'm not sure how to best engage with the issue. ChristianKl10:03, 31 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

There are also a few others (see Special:Contributions/105.112.0.0/16). Blocking individual addresses might not help with prevention since the addresses are changing. Furthermore, I would be hesitant about blocking largish ranges (even after reducing the size of the range I linked above), especially considering that there have been constructive edits from within the range. Perhaps an abuse filter could help to catch some of these? We could have it take action when an edit is coming from the expected IP range, and is adding specific text (e.g. the name, phone number, or possibly other things that kept coming up). Thoughts? Per something I saw on Twitter it looks like Q98690882 was deleted and has been recreated with more refs as Q98806902.

If an admin could restore the previous entity and create a redirect to the new ID that would be grand!

Requesting Undelete of Q98807757 edit

Requesting Undelete of Q98807757 and Q98810840 as advised by Wiki13 on https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Requests_for_checkuser/Case/Ugicapital

As per the notability I have referenced highly secured references, and I was not able to complete adding all the notability references before the page was deleted  – The preceding unsigned comment was added by Ugicapital (talk • contribs) at 23:03, 1 September 2020 (UTC).[reply]

Ugicapital: The items were deleted for "spam/advertising", and lack of notability. I'm not sure about the spam part, but I couldn't find reliable sources about him, and the item doesn't fulfill a structural need, so I consider it non-notable. Therefore, I don't think it should be restored. Regarding Q98810840, surnames are easily notable IMO, but I would like Wiki13 to explain a bit more about the spam issue, before taking any action. Esteban16 (talk) 14:48, 2 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Esteban16: The spam issue has more to do with the fact that this user created articles to make look the person more notable. This user did not even that with this own, but with another account. The only reason I linked one and one together is that the other account uploaded an image on Commons that got linked by a statement inserted by this account. I would call this behaviour spam, hence the "spam iussue". The surname was only created to support the non notable item and I therefor deemed that non-notable. Hopefully this clears up any missing context. Kind regards, Wiki13 (talk) 15:20, 2 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for clarifying. Then, I   decline this request, as this is in fact a spam behaviour. Esteban16 (talk) 18:09, 2 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Vandal with changing accounts edit

UWERAPP1982 (talk • contribs • deleted contribs • logs • filter log • block user • block log • SUL (for IP: GUC)) and Pfennig1982 (talk • contribs • deleted contribs • logs • filter log • block user • block log • SUL (for IP: GUC)) is the same user. He was politely asked not to change the description (capital letters) as he did. Then he created a new account and continues vandalism. Here also he was asked not to do such changes, but he wasn't recognized. I ask for reverting every edit he made with both detected accounts (if it hasn't been done already) and want to know, if it is possible to checkuser him to block his IP or a range he uses, because I am sure he creates or has created a new account to continue his disruptive work. -- MovieFex (talk) 23:44, 6 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Edits by Eternal Father edit

Eternal Father (talkcontribslogs) has added many unsubstantiated statements and edited descriptions to push their own point of view. These edits were often reverted for vandalism. Some examples:

  • [3] John Weaver as Russian agent
  • [4] removed "war criminal"
  • [5] changed description for US antifa to "domestic terrorist"

Can you check if problematic edits remain and decide whether the user should be blocked even though they haven't been active in the last month? --Pyfisch (talk) 09:33, 4 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Unblock request (follow-up) edit

On August 31, 2020, a release request on WD (except for English and French) was sent to the administrators. Instead, without valid justification, a blanket block was applied despite my good editorial work on WD. Only two users wrote on the discussion page. The user VIGNERON presented examples of infinite details (eg: an uppercase instead of a lowercase for a word in description field; or the article "un" (in French) at the start of the description field); this in no way justifies a blockage. In addition, the user Fralambert is still in a campaign of harassment and personal attacks against me; his comments on translation software are biased. In the meantime, the WD talk page has moved to the archives (August 2020), without further action. I would be grateful if you could follow up on my WD release request on August 31st. User:Derzno messing up english labels en masse edit

Looks like User:Derzno is currently playing around with the Quickstatements tool and not getting it quite right (example: Bamberg Cathedral (Q5924)). User talk:Jura1 gave him a warning just a few days ago, but he appears to ignore it completely. --Hjart (talk) 14:14, 4 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Let me explain, I’m currently working to clean up the Bavarian cultural heritage monuments. For your understanding, we have appr. 160k objects in total and it is nearly impossible to do this by hand. These data have been pushed by a bot in 2017 and nobody maintained the data since that time. Now we are working to automate the lists in German Wikipedia with data out of Wikidata. I did a lot of work on the last couple weeks to complete, to correct and to sort out issues …. In that time unfortunately it was escalated, here and here that the “new” English Labels and description doesn’t fulfill the constrains of naming. Ok, accepted the plan was to push out fixing after the rest of the work were done but a User:Jura1 was not happy with and pushed myself again and again in several places to fix this issue urgently. I did so and did my best but a couple of former very useful information was unfortunately overwritten. Especially was happen on object with article behind like the Bamberg Cathedral (Q5924) I’m so sorry and think these are below 100 and will have a look later on on the monuments with article and will fix it. I'm still wonder why this was escalated right now without waiting giving an answers right after on the comment on my DIS with a single issue. No very helpful. fyi @Ordercrazy, MisterSynergy: --Derzno (talk) 14:46, 4 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Even now noticed that after implementation of the requested changes the discussion has started again on the labels. It was asked many times on concrete propoal, review with enought time to check and comment. Nothing more to comment from my side --Derzno (talk) 14:57, 4 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I’d spend the half night to analyze what and why this happen. I can confirm that this issue came in with my workflow and is limited to the area of cultural monuments in Upper Franconia (Q10554) and a slightly in Lower Franconia (Q10547) The issue was implemented in the timeframe around the 23rd/24th of August, what was 2 weeks ago from now. Unfortunately I was not very caerfully and didn’t check all in detail on the already provided English Labels and descriptions. The problem can be located with quickstatements batch#1, batch#2 and batch#3. I got by 24th August notice first time with another issue that something went wrong on 23rd from Matthias Winkelmann. I’d stopped to add additional labels on further already existing datasets and was focused on “my” new personally added ones only. In the couple last weeks I’d added approximately 80k new datasets of missing Bavarian monuments. Ok, they got all labels/descriptions which are not fitting into regular schema. This was escalated and confirmed to fix but not immediately. I’ll saw this as nice to have not as an urgent issue. My plan was to move on and complete my other job and replace all in one step afterward. This was told also from others but not accepted by Jura. He was the one and only making high pressure and opened the same issue on sevaral places on my DIS, in the German forum and also in the English forum. Why, you should ask him not me. Anyhow I’d started to get this label issue been fixed now and provided proposals which were reviewed in the German and English forum. Above some generic and proposal to delete comments wasn't any significant feedback and I'd started with a similar look and feel as the already implemented ones. A couple tests failed due to constrains of the project. It is not easy for me to find a way which is working for 160k of data and not for a couple ones only, but I’d found a way. Not perfect but not wrong! This proposal was provided and got back only questions which was answered and no further correction. So I’d started to get fixed my bullshit on more than x0k datasets. But as mentioned before, 80% were on my new entities only. Right after processing the fix, discussion startet again. Unfortunately while this fix I need to touch the labels which were provided around the 23rd August as well. All other so called “messing up” have definitely nothing to do with the English labels story and were many new items, corrections (wrong or missing information), sorting out obsolete material and significant additional improvements on the existing data.
Normally I’m finishing my started work or come to a defined end. But right now I’ll drop my “spams” and leave things as they are. The remaining batch on quickstatement was already stopped after the escalation. After a night sleeping, 1.000.000 edits within area of German protected areas, Geotopes and cultural monuments it’s time for me to think about if I should leave the project. Love it or leave it, and maybe a good time to say goodbye. Such escalting like from Hjart makes me frustrating. If people I'd never recognized before in the area of monuments will come up with 2 weeks old issues as urgent escaltion without waiting for answers, I could only shake my head. I never saw any contribution on the subject nor on any DIS from him and don't know his role is this nasty game. Why can’t wait for an answer on my DIS before esacalate? Additonally I’m not the data-slave from somebody else and have only to do what she*he is saying with highest priority.
Back to the subject, easiest would be to reset my batches #1, #2 and #3 mentioned above. As I’d wrote in the forum, personally I don’t touch label stuff anymore and someone else need to act. Its up to you whatever you think needs be done. Now block myself or revert my edits, its your choice. If you have any further questions please ping me or better send my an email. From my point of view all has been said in this distressed discussion and I don’t waste any further time to ride a dead horse. Have a nice weekend with greetings from Bavaria --Derzno (talk) 04:56, 5 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Amerigo Vespucci Q47674 occupation: Slave Holder edit

Somebody added recently on the person data under occupation: slave holder. As you all know, to own slaves is not an occupation, occupation would be slave trader, slave merchant, etc. I tried to changed it myself but the page is protected and could not. Could somebody please remove that? also, is that page need to be protected? was this occupation issue done to other person datas? Thanks and stay safe

Cefaro (talk) 04:49, 6 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Actually in the ontology of Wikidata slave owner (Q10076267) is an occupation. --Pyfisch (talk) 07:24, 6 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Cefaro: Always instructive to look at the way a value is assigned on items - https://w.wiki/bRd ... I agree occupation is not ideal, but afaik we have nothing better. Perhap's we're lacking a 'significant attribute' property, in the same way we have 'significant event'. @DrThneed: FYI.
Couple of other points: 1) information should ideally not be removed, but rather redone with a more appropriate property, if there is one, and 2) it's always courteous to ping whichever editor added the value - in this case me - when raising it for discussion. --Tagishsimon (talk) 15:11, 6 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Tagishsimon:Thanks for the ping.@Cefaro: If you look there are currently 1396 people with 'slave holder' as one of their occupations. I would agree that it can seem odd to have slave holder as an occupation at first glance, and yet this is how we currently model this. Maybe it helps you to consider that to own slaves allows you to earn income from the work of those slaves (not that all occupations earn money, but you can see it more readily belongs alongside such occupations). There is also 'social classification slave holder' but this is much less widely used, and I personally am not using it as it does not reflect the language that my research sources use, and seems less precise. Maybe we will find a better way to model slave ownership, but in the meantime please don't remove data on slave holders without another way to model it! I and others have been doing a lot of work to make more visible in wikidata slave owning and slave trading, it is distressing to think of someone deleting information just because they don't like how it is modelled. What? You are asking for block of user with solid track record and 200,000+ edits plus rollback privileges? This is best reported as a large paragraph, not a "vandal format", so to speak. --Prahlad (tell me all about it / private venue) (Please {{ping}} me) 14:27, 2 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not necessarily asking for a block, I was just pointing out many of the errors they created, I'm not really sure of proper wikidata protocol for this kind of thing so sorry. To expound on what I'm talking about though: On August 20th they batch claimed about 180 different games "Engine" as "Source" when weren't. Most of these claims were already reverted, but many were not when I made this report, but it seems like since I made this report they since reverted the remaining ones. That wasn't just the only example though, as they similarly batch claimed over 300 games with their "copyright license" being "freeware", when in actuality that is a type of "software license". One example would be SimCity which already had the proper copyright license with references to begin with. At any rate, it seems silly to point out how many edits they did as some sort of testimonial for their character, when they only have that many edits due to them blanket editing hundreds of pages with unreferenced data at a time. 68.67.99.79 14:59, 2 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
can you link to some examples? BrokenSegue (talk) 15:10, 2 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, the simcity case is probably wrong but it's hard to know how wrong a quickstatement batch is (or whether the intent was good despite errors) as a whole without knowing how it was generated (I wish people left better comments). BrokenSegue (talk) 15:17, 2 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Well, don't you think they wouldn't've stood for 8 years if they kept doing this? In any case it's best to discuss with the user first, unless it's obvious vandalism and/or a compromised account. --Prahlad (tell me all about it / private venue) (Please {{ping}} me) 15:30, 2 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
You literally reported them with a "block user" link and the {{vandal}} template. So yeah, I'm not quite sure that I believe "I'm not necessarily asking for a block, I was just pointing out many of the errors they created, I'm not really sure of proper wikidata protocol for this kind of thing so sorry". --Prahlad (tell me all about it / private venue) (Please {{ping}} me) 03:15, 3 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
yeah it's definitely not malicious action. BrokenSegue (talk) 20:37, 2 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I also literally don't know the complete inter-workings of wikidata/wikipedia and how things work behind the scenes. I just happened to see the user's "work" on an article then decided to check their other contributions and saw they similarly messed up other points of data as well, so I wanted to bring attention to it. I then found this page and clicked the link at the top to "report vandalism" since I thought it would fall within it's purview. The page on Vandalism only says it may lead to a block, so I had no assumptions that what I'm pointing out would lead to it, just that maybe his incorrect edits could be undone or at least reviewed. 68.67.99.79 06:09, 3 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • 'Hmm, the simcity case is probably wrong but it's hard to know how wrong a quickstatement batch is (or whether the intent was good despite errors) as a whole without knowing how it was generated (I wish people left better comments).'I used the categories on (mostly) English Wikipedia. Bit of a loaded question; no, and I'm not sure how I can possibly prove it. I genuinely thought this guy putting incongruent data on hundreds of articles was worth bringing up. For crying out loud, he inexplicably added "list of free massively multiplayer online games" as being "freeware", "copyrighted", and "free-to-play" despite being a list because they seemingly, randomly included it among a batch of other claims. 68.67.99.79 06:59, 3 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Reopen RfD for Q98077491 edit

Admin @DannyS712: suggested I ask for reopening of its deletion discussion here.

The items is an outlyer in the model used for US senators, created by a recent editor and apparently added/changed without prior discussion. United States senator (Q4416090) follows a model with multiple P39 of Q4416090. It seems fairly obvious if you look at some of them. The discussion was still ongoing when closed and RfD is the place to discuss deletions, even if some don't like it. --- Jura 08:46, 9 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Edit war with User:MovieFex edit

MovieFex (talkcontribslogs) constantly adds the English Wikipedia's disambiguation in parentheses (film and television) to the item "drama" (Q130232), despite the availability of the description "film and TV genre": [8], [9]. References to Help:Label#Disambiguation information belongs in the description don't help on his talk page. He firmly insists that (film and television) "is no disambiguation", in spite of the fact that he copied and pasted it from the English Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drama_(film_and_television).

In light of the above, I ask administrators to restore the version with no disambiguation in parentheses. The item's description "film and TV genre" is more than enough.--Russian Rocky (talk) 12:47, 12 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Epìdosis: Skipped is not the issue of bot, as it is continuing even if the bot stops. It is likely caused by other bots - but there are no easy way to find them. See phab:T232620.--GZWDer (talk) 17:44, 9 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Wikidata:Contact_the_development_team#phab:T232620.--GZWDer (talk) 18:14, 9 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • The problem of skipped IDs is clearly unrelated to the bot, since it happened also in these days while the bot was blocked; as for what concerns other problems, I think I don't have enough experience regarding bots, so I will let other admins intervene if necessary as I have previously said. I wrote "I think at least some other admin should express their opinion about that in the next three days" but it didn't happen, so probably I guess there is mutual consensus for the bot-run among more experienced admins. Have a good weekend, --Epìdosis 12:49, 12 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Given the problem with running unapproved operations, I think the other bot accounts of the user should be blocked as well:
--- Jura 17:50, 9 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • For the first one, it will never do more than 1000 edits in a batch (usually, less than 100), so you can treat call edits as came from the main account. It is used solely to prevent polluting user contribution.--GZWDer (talk) 17:55, 9 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
    • Given the unauthorized activity with RegularBot, all your bot and flood accounts should be blocked. Besides, there is still too much to cleanup from your previous batches. I wonder if, finally, the conclusion of Ladsgroup is accurate. --- Jura 21:53, 9 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Emu: You have not attempted to discuss this with the user on their talk page, a prerequisite for requesting any but the most urgent administrative actions (e.g. outright spam and vandalism). Please do that first; blocks are a last resort, not a first resort.--Jasper Deng (talk) 10:33, 13 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Interesting to see how somehow I’m the problem now. Have fun with cleaning up the mess (although I suspect that nobody will do this). --Emu (talk) 10:44, 13 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Emu: To be quite honest, you should also never label anyone's edits as "vandalism" when they are done in good faith. Vandalism includes only edits that were made in bad faith.--Jasper Deng (talk) 11:30, 13 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Talked to them on their Wikidata user talk page. No need for administrative action at this point, pretty much as per User:Jasper_Deng. —MisterSynergy (talk) 11:10, 13 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Some wikis, e.g. de.wiki, mark pages as disambiguation even if the pages clearly say they are lists of family names (and manual checking confirms that). As a result, wikidata editors automatically separate those pages, without checking. Materialscientist (talk) 11:11, 13 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The general Wikidata position is that every Wiki can decide what their pages are about. If de.wiki decides that one of their pages is a disambiguation page we respect that choice. ChristianKl12:38, 13 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Materialscientist: Merging these is not always a good idea. The DAB pages should be separate from the item about the actual name. --IWI (talk) 14:29, 13 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Edit war for the image of the 2020 Tour de France edit

Vandcykel (talk • contribs • deleted contribs • logs • filter log • block user • block log • SUL (for IP: GUC))Reasons: I am mostly active on Wikipeda and I don'use often Wikidata, so forgive me if this is not the right place to report and solve an edit war started on the element Q50411777. On the 6th of September I set a new image. I have taken that photo (I took also the one used before), so I know that my point of view is not neutral, but in my opinion it is more representative of the 2020 Tour de France: it shows the peloton, some flags, the people on the side of the road, the finishing line of a stage... I have taken the photo with that in mind, to represent the Tour the France as a whole, not just a single stage. Moreover it shows the city of Nice, and a start from Nice (city in which three stages took place) is not common in the race history, so it can be correctly used to represent the unicity of the 2020 edition. It is not a simple image of some cyclists that could have been taken anywhere alse.

The user @Vandcykel: decided to use another image on the 9th, I reverted, he changed the file again on the 10th, hence I wrote him to try to avoid an edit war. He did not reply, hence I reverted again, and he did as well. The user @GAN: decided to restore, and vandcykel reverted again, but finally giving us an explanation: "Picture ruins setup in multiple languages as it is too long". He also added that for him it is not a representative image. Now, I tried to see if in some Wikipedia pages the usage of a vertical image ruined "the setup", but I didn't see anything. And actually I would like to understand how it is possible, since all the Wikipedia articles make use of the same {{Cycling race/infobox}}. I reverted, he reverted (12th). I wrote him (13th), and again he did not reply. I told him that I was going to change it for the reasons that I showed him and for the fact that he didn't even try to show me a case in which it "ruined the setup". I changed the image and he reverted (today, the 14th)

Here, there are 2 questions in my opinion. The first one is technical: is it true that a vertical photo "ruins the setup"? The second one (to me the most important one) is independent of the first one and it is about the behaviour of the user: he did not answer every time I tried to discuss with him in order to understand if he was right or not, but he rapidly reverted the edits that he didn't agree with, is it a correct behaviour? --Martin Mystère (talk) 18:29, 14 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

See Franklin Ginn (Q99221714) for example, where sitelinks of various animated shows had been moved. Also for some reason, they sometimes revert to older versions to restore interwiki links to hewiki after their pages on hewiki get deleted. Inbetween, there are some edits that seem benign, but most others are obvious vandalism. There are other IPs from that range with the same kinds of edits: 2600:1700:3720:3770:30C3:1C9F:DD0A:DD71 (talk • contribs • deleted contribs • logs • filter log • block user • block log • SUL (for IP: GUC)) and 2600:1700:3720:3770:E56E:B21A:EEE8:930B (talk • contribs • deleted contribs • logs • filter log • block user • block log • SUL (for IP: GUC)). User:Alexhuff13 This editor did make multiple not notable person Wikipedia and wikidata page. I think this editor did paid edit because there maximum page and editing is advertising, promoting, spam that do proof paid editor. Only paid editor do this. @Baby come: not true. Please see w:en:WP:AGF and w:en:WP:BITE. Alex is editing in good faith, I think, and is probably not paid. We have all made some suboptimal items tbh. Please assume good faith. Blocks are a last resort, not a first one. Also, unless a user has been warned several times to not make non-notable items, and continues to do so, a block is not necessary imho. Prahlad (tell me all about it / private venue) (Please {{ping}} me) 16:48, 16 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Prahlad balaji: Please Check his/her Marathi Wikipedia page. All page waiting for delation and also All guys not notable and he/she did make tactically.Baby come (talk) 00:42, 17 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Baby come: from what I see on their page, it says "Hello, I am here to contribute and write articles related to topics like Marathi Wikipedia, movies, celebrities, physics, places. My favorite subjects are maths as well as technology. The main purpose of contributing to Marathi Wikipedia is to increase my knowledge of certain things while editing articles". Notability aside, nothing in that statement or their articles suggests that they are paid. I am not supporting them; just saying that they probably aren't paid, even if their articles were deleted due to notability issues. Otherwise don't you think the local admins would've caught them? Otherwise please make sure to discuss with the user first and remember that blocking is a last resort, not a first one.
What does qualify as paid editing is is the user continues to spam about the same thing(s) (after all, you wouldn't be paid by 30 companies in just one month, would you). Now, I know you may object to this as you file a lot of RfD requests for LTA spam, but the LTA spammers have been spamming for a long time (hence the "L" in "LTA", which stands for "Long-term abuse"). The Alexhuff13 account is just one month old, so I find it highly unlikely that they've been paid by multiple companies to promote their products.
It may also qualify as paid editing if they are obviously here to promote something (e.g. advertising services with POV headlines, or inserting spam links). Alex clearly has not done any of this; I am experienced with vandals and spammers on a few wikis and know what this is. I've taken a look at their existing contribs (on wikidata and mrwiki) and though some seem to lack notability, they are probably not paid edits, as they are for the most part written neutrally.
Those criteria above are the main criteria. I've taken a look at the WMF's guideline for paid editors and I'm sorry but it doesn't seem to match. In sum, Alexhuff13 could be less-than-optimal regarding notability, but they are probably not paid. PokestarFan (talkcontribslogs) appealed their block 6 months ago. • Isn't it stale in the meantime?
Rather than blank unblocking, maybe the user could outline what they plan to do (e.g. create or complete a series of items) and, if this is considered worthwhile, unblock them to do it. Once done, it could be reviewed. If it works, they could be unblocked normally. --- Jura 08:18, 20 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

There is a discussion in item Q92955901 about P18 “image”. Two positions are exposed, mine and Vanbasten 23 (talkcontribslogs)´s. By the P18´s definition, can we decide which of two positions are preferable? Thank you, GualdimG (talk) 17:52, 20 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I found a bogus item with edits by 2601:989:4300:BEA0:DB7:1FA6:B6BF:A139 and 73.230.196.155 , which had a bunch of redirects attached to it. But then I looked at the users' edit history and found a bunch more items that needed deleted, some that might have some use if they are legitimate, and edits for items that they did not create. I thought that it best to come here and let admin take a look (especially considering the variable state of ip addresses) at the entire situation rather than just nominating items for deletion. Reset Batch edit

Hello,

I had in the following Batch a mistake and so the Descriptions are not correct. I dont know how many are false but I wasnt able to get the result with a query so that I can check it. [11] The Editgroupstool does not work. There is a information Batch archived and so I cant reset the Batch. Can a Administrator please do that. After someone asked me today I try to find my batches where there were mistakes within. So I try to make sure that something like there does not happen again.--Hogü-456 (talk) 20:13, 22 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

After the batch has been archived in the editgroups tool, it cannot be undone from there any longer. This happens after one year (I think), and applies to admins as well. Thus, you either need to find the affected items with WDQS and make a new correction batch, or retrieve the edits from the MediaWiki database and set up a correction batch based on that. The timeframe of the edits is actually well-known, as it is still recorded in the editgroups tool. —MisterSynergy (talk) 21:04, 22 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi all. The RfC that @MisterSynergy: and I started at Wikidata:Requests for comment/General semi protection for all property pages was started on 15 July, so it's been running for over 2 months now, and the last comment was over 2 weeks ago. • It now has 16 votes for adoption and 6 votes against it. I feel like we can close the RfC but while my involvement with it wasn't central the way that of MisterSynergy/Mike Peel I at the moment still feel like I would prefer that a less involved admin closes it. Otherwise, are there any views on whether or not I'm to involved with it to close it? If nobody objects and this stays open for a few additional months maybe me closing it would be better then it staying stale. ChristianKl08:06, 20 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Succu keeps removing data and adding false information edit

@Succu: keeps removing data and adding false information. [12] The source he is citing for the claim makes no such statement, and is, by its very nature not a reliable source for determining monotypic status of taxa because it is limited to extant taxa only. The source I have cited for nono-monotypic status lists ( on p.761-762) multiple subordinate taxa to the family Platanaceae (Q171425), including Platanites, Plataninium, Macginicarpa, Platananthus, Macginistemon, and others. Succu keeps reverting claiming that he has read my source, but it is clear he has not.

His reversions, which are contrary to the cited source I have provided, are in error, yet he keeps reverting away my data, and replacing it with a claim and reference which does not support his claim.

Succu's behavior in this regard has come up in this board many times. I believe a block may be called for. --EncycloPetey (talk) 17:53, 24 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

"Nope", what? I have provided the diff demonstrating my claim. "Please add your information" is exactly what you did not do; you removed a claim supported by a reference. If you are going to give advice, please follow that advice. --EncycloPetey (talk) 06:03, 25 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Ongoing vandalism on TV series items edit

There's a lot of vandalism going on by a person using various IPs. There's always a bunch of harmless edits of labels/description that seem OK, but they always also randomly remove valid labels/descriptions, remove valid interwiki links and often move them to items of unrelated TV series or newly created items, etc. And while a few of those bad edits might have been honest mistakes, stuff like the edits linked below don't happen by accident - especially not in these numbers.

See my last report here, after which 2600:1700:3720:3770:F184:DC55:CFD4:80BA (talk • contribs • deleted contribs • logs • filter log • block user • block log • SUL (for IP: GUC)) was blocked for a year. Unfortunately the behaviour has continued with other IPs, including:

IP user making inappropriate merges edit

Hi. We have an inexperienced IP user 77.1.179.165 (talkcontribslogs) trying to merge a dewiki item Life&Style (Q1824415) into an enwiki item Life & Style (Q6544648) to tidy up interlanguage links. Unfortunately the enwiki article is about an English language publication created in 2004 and the dewiki item covers both the 2004 publication and an alternate language edition published in Germany between 2008 and 2012. I have tried to explain[13] that the links shouldn't be on the same page after the user tried blanking and deleting one of the items but they don't appear to believe me. To try and resolve the situation I moved the dewiki link to Q99641877 but the IP user has reverted me. Rather than turn this into an edit war, can someone else step in here?
The IP user has switched addresses from 95.116.185.51 (talkcontribslogs) to 77.1.179.165, which makes conversation difficult. If this was a logged in user or an editor at a stable IP, I would ask a third party to discuss the issue with them but we could end up talking to thin air. Requests for deletions edit

Yesterday I cleared the backlog on WD:RfD except for three sections that I have opened by myself a while ago. Thus I should probably not be closing them as well. Can anyone please have a look? They are right at the top of the WD:RfD page:

In case more discussion is required in any of these, I am happy to contribute there as well.

Generally, the RfD page has been backlogged quite a bit in recent months, but the listed cases are actually not that difficult to close. I would like to encourage all admins to have an occasional look and solve some cases, and non-admins to consider their situation regarding a potential request for adminship. @Gnoeee: but they have kept doing it. So far their edits do not seem to be constructive. I do not see any communication that would normally be expected from them. Please block. Thanks. --Prahlad (tell me all about it / private venue) (Please {{ping}} me) 21:39, 26 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

148.3.197.81 edit

148.3.197.81 (talk • contribs • deleted contribs • logs • filter log • block user • block log • SUL (for IP: GUC)) - I just came across this IP at John David Barrow (Q471540), they correctly identified that the person had died, but put a bunch of bad data in at the same time. They have a number of other contributions over the last few days that also look dodgy, can someone else help look through them please? Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 14:39, 27 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I think some of this may be due to misunderstanding/mistranslating properties. For example, Mohamed Lamine Ould Ahmed (Q3318661) is recorded as being a government minister in charge of health at some point in his career. The IP user has inserted has cause (P828): colorectal cancer (Q188874), human pregnancy (Q11995) and diarrhea (Q40878), all of which are areas of work that a health minister may champion. This could be a case of misinterpreting has cause (P828) as interested in (P2650). From Hill To Shore (talk) 16:35, 27 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Report concerning User:ABDULELAH9901 edit

Leoncastro (talk) 19:00, 29 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I can confirm the disruptive edits of user ABDULELAH9901. Mainly he entered all the time the stupid information of a kingdom of a yellow mountain (= مملكة الجبل الأصفر) and made P31 from terra nullius to kingdom for Bir Tawil (Q620634). Anybody is entering sometimes دولة بيرلاند / أرض مجتمع دولة بيرلاند which means (community land) of the government of Pearland. The area is empty of any people and is disputed between Egypt and Sudan relating to the Halaib triangle. --RolandUnger (talk) 09:12, 30 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

-- Leoncastro (talk) 13:55, 30 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I contested this deletion on the deletion page and added a number of references to the item. There was no comment responding to my assertion that it not be deleted but @MisterSynergy: deleted it anyways. What is the point of discussion on WD:AFD if admins just ignore "consensus" and delete things on their own whims. BrokenSegue (talk) 21:52, 27 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

It's undeleted. Please add identifiers or something reliable beyond speculative promotional articles as references. —MisterSynergy (talk) 22:14, 27 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
It already had multiple identifiers and sources. I have added more. The only reason I noticed you deleted it was because I don't trust the AfD process and so watchlisted it. You could've left a comment indicating you thought the sources were insufficient but instead you just deleted it. Is that how RfD is supposed to work? BrokenSegue (talk) 22:36, 27 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • NfD isn't really a discussion the way it is on other projects, therefore consensus doesn't really matter. Quakewoody (talk) 13:46, 29 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
    • It should matter. BrokenSegue (talk) 03:03, 2 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
      • "Notability" at Wikidata is much more a technical criterium than what you're apparently used to with your Wikipedia background. It should ensure that content is unambiguously identified by being linked against a serious external resource, and in consequence being verifiable. The assessment is an extremely schematic process that in most cases does not require any community input, "consensus", or votes. For good reasons RfD does not have a minimum discussion period defined or any other formal requirements that need to be respected while resolving cases. Mind that the undeletion process is similarly unbureaucratic, so if you are unhappy with the outcome, you can simply ask for undeletion to have another try.
That said, based on the current revision, I am still not convinced that Drew House (Q98967495) should be kept. There are a couple of gossip magazine articles used as references which are pretty promotional and contain more speculation than reliable information, and the identifiers are either social media handles that are under control of the brand itself, or user-generated content. All of this is not exactly what we consider useful to verify the information given in the item. Maybe Wikipedia would be fine with these sort of references, but it is below Wikidata standards. —MisterSynergy (talk) 07:44, 2 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
        • @ MisterSynergy: Thank you for the reply. Yes I have heard this argument before that notability here is a simple mechanical process and so discussion/consensus isn't needed. However the fact that Drew House (Q98967495) to me is an obvious keep and isn't to you and we both read the same notability guidelines means it isn't a mechanical process and discussion is needed. In particular here we disagree what "serious external resources" means and no documents that I've seen provide guidance there. Esquire and Billboard are major publications and it includes an interview with the non-Beiber founder (not just speculation). One wonders what sources you expect to see for a fashion line? To me it is clearly unambiguously identified (just being the named fashion line of Justin Bieber does that honestly). BrokenSegue (talk) 13:10, 2 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Needs some administrative remainder in what belongs to a description field and what not. User adds nonsensical birth date and current age to descriptions. Does not react to requests to stop behaviour or at least explain the reasons behind it. I consider many of this users edits to be problematic, most -if not all- should be reverted. --Denniss (talk) 22:10, 30 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
