I am an administrator on Russian Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons. I have been participating in the Wikidata since very beginning and now I have 120K edits (plus 667K under the PBot account). I am creating tools for more intensive use of Wikidata in other Wikimedia projects, but this has the opposite side: because Wikidata is not well protected against vandalism, and information from one element can be used in thousands of others, it is vulnerable to vandals. Recent events in Russian Wikipedia have shown that there is vandalism, which is not observed by users from other projects, but they are very harmful to ruwiki. Because of the language barrier, it is difficult for users to find somebody who can help. Therefore, my main purpose of obtaining a flag is to fight against vandalism. Also I plan to improve the Russian localization of MediaWiki messages.

I am an admin on Commons since 2007, mostly active with maintaining high volume protected templates, but I was doing great many other maintenance tasks over the years. I am also occasionally active OTRS volunteer. Couple years ago, when Commons was added to Wikidata universe, I began working on copying content of many Commons pages to Wikidata and writing Lua codes to access Wikidata from Commons. I worked so far on coping following data from Commons to Wikidata: authority control identifiers, taxonomic data, location coordinates and currently I am working on copying data from Commons creator templates. I have over 100k edits on Wikidata, plus about 30k using User:JarektBot account, many of them done manually or in very small sets. In addition to importing data I am quite active in watching over Wikidata:Database reports/Constraint violations of several properties and working on fixing related issues. I am applying for position of administrator in order to help with maintenance tasks on Wikidata, including vandalism related tasks, as I see vandalism as a big issue on Wikidata, with many bad edits not discovered for months. --Jarekt (talk) 16:48, 3 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Over the last three years I have become accustomed to the rules and norms, written or unwritten, that govern Wikidata. I have indeed performed many high-volume QS edits on this account, but they have encompassed areas of lesser interest on average (natural numbers, dates/times, foreign relations...). Yet I wish to take a larger role in maintaining Wikidata than what rollback, as wonderful a right as it has been for the last six months, allows at present. I have begun participating more in property proposals, merging mass-created items, and working to eliminate duplicate labeling across languages. While I do not form this request because no speakers of South Asian languages are admins at present, bad edits in those languages that arise due to the confusion of those speakers can and have gone unchecked in some items that I have passed by, and being able to take up page protection and, if need be, blocks in clearly malicious instances of these edits would definitely help. --Mahir256 (talk) 08:28, 11 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

edit- You mention South Asian languages; your edits have been mostly in Bangla and English, which are also your native languages according to your babel box. Are you at all comfortable with other languages of the area? Hindi for instance? Can you read Arabic at all (or Persian, Urdu, etc)? ArthurPSmith (talk) 16:22, 11 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
- @ArthurPSmith: There is a lot of lexical overlap among at least Indo-Aryan languages, including Bengali and Hindi, and I can decipher the Devanagari script comfortably, so in many instances I can "understand" Hindi text (and with some transliteration effort certain other Indo-Aryan languages). For liturgical reasons I can also decipher Perso-Arabic scripts comfortably, but there is less overlap in vocabulary between Bengali and either of Arabic or Persian, so my ability to "understand" Arabic or Persian is less. (I nevertheless cannot speak Hindi, Arabic, or Persian if I tried, and thus I would mark those as -0 among my Babel boxes.)
- In any case, I have always tried to exercise caution whenever I operate on languages I do not speak, checking for exact correspondences with other languages before, for example, adding sitelinks or performing merges, and will continue to exercise caution in these instances. Hello fellow Wikidata contributors! During my stay in Wikidata so far, I have been active mostly in 2 venues: First of all in new pages patrolling for small (under 1,5KB) items that require either deletion or improvement, as well as for inappropriate pages in other namespaces. The second is patrolling recent changes using customized filters to detect vandalism or spam. The reason I am requesting adminship is to be able to delete these pages (that unambiguously require deletion) on my own instead of sending them RfD like I am doing now and take the appropriate actions when encountering vandalism, as well as to help handling similar request on RFD and AN. Regarding languages, my native language is Greek but I also speak English and French (less fluently though). Regarding relevant experience, I am a sysop on Greek Wikiquote. Disclosure: I have 2 alternative accounts globally, Kostas20142 (alt) and Kostantinos20142, both of which I plan to create here especially if granted the permissions. Thank you for your time --Kostas20142 (talk) 17:27, 4 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

- Oppose This user has always been interested in acquiring user rights and permissions first and foremost, any help they can provide will be secondary to their hat collecting quest. Their interest in hat collecting was a significant issue at their first RfA on English Wikipedia (see w:Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Kostas20142 for evidence) and it's only a few weeks since they were requesting OTRS access here. I would expect significantly more experience and serious evidence of their dedication to this project, because my suspicion is that this is just a stepping stone to another RfA on English Wikipedia. Nick (talk) 17:00, 5 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
- Oppose. The candidate's main experience with Wikidata is to do with patrolling items and nominating items for deletion. I understand the purpose of having admin rights so he can delete things directly without bothering another admin, but RfD isn't overwhelmed with backlogs just yet and the candidate's level of experience on Wikidata isn't sufficient for making deletion decisions without another editor's participation yet. edit- Special:CentralAuth/Kostas20142 says you have temporary sysop rights at elwikiquote, and a total of only 112 edits in that project. When and why does that role expire, and how much sysop experience do you really have?
Something else: you started contributing at Wikidata significantly less than two months ago, and you collected ~1.5k edits with your account. While I appreciate your efforts for this project at WD:RfD and I do indeed see you as a promising candidate, I am not sure whether it is already about time to run for adminship… —MisterSynergy (talk) 18:45, 4 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]- @MisterSynergy: my adminship expires on 06:24, 2 September 2018. Basically, for such small wikis it is granted only on temporarily and can be renewed (like I have already done once. according to xtools I have 35 deletions and 2 revdels. I don't claim that this is significant, and my sincere apologies if it was perceived that way, but merely that I have carried out sysop tasks in past. --Kostas20142 (talk) 19:04, 4 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
- As I noticed you hardly created any new items, have you tried to expand or correct a group of items in one or the other fields?
--- Jura 10:57, 5 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]- @Jura1: Indeed, I have created 5 items, all of which fall under the "structurally needed" category (3 film directors and 2 books as references). However I have expanded a few already existing items, especially recent creations by automated tools that had only an instance of (P31) or not even that. --Kostas20142 (talk) 14:37, 5 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
- I'm beginning to doubt after Nick's statement. I don't see an issue in the number of edits, but the hat collecting does look like a valid point. What's your response to the hat collecting claim? Mbch331 (talk) 18:28, 5 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
- @Nick:, @Mbch331:, I will be really honest with this: I have done mistakes. And I have requested permissions that appears I shouldn't have. For the sake of transparency I will also disclose that I had requested Global renamer some months ago. However, stating that helping Wikimedia projects is secondary to me, is an unsupported accusation. I might have given this impression, however that's not the case. First of all, why to stay here, especially after my unsuccessful RfA and the OTRS request you mentioned? If I merely wanted hats, I could simply go elsewhere and make a fresh start seeking hats there. Instead, I have stayed here contributing globally. You mentioned the English Wikipedia RfA. Some people thought that I could be trusted back there, some others thought either that it was too early, or that I was hat collecting. My intentions were pure, and the reason why I stopped participating in admin-related areas is that I found some comments a bit discouraging and felt unsure about my next step to fix the things and prove that these accusations were indeed wrong. Not following the advice I had been offered not to run was indeed a mistake. Maybe I was over-confident, maybe I thought it was a minority view. Either ways, I learned from this mistake and sought advice on whether it would be appropriate to run here. This was done privately, and I would prefer not to disclose the user unless this user is ok with this. (I had not mentioned the en.wiki RfA because I found it irrelevant) Regarding the OTRS, well, I really thought that I could be helpful to the team however I withdrew after 2 comments (one of which was Nick's) that expressed opposition. And this was done because I found continuing as candidate although I was not trusted, counterproductive. And to be honest, I don't think that this team would be suitable for a hat collector; although public few people know you are in and the activity is monitored so.... And especially in Wikidata I have done other things than admin related tasks as well; I first came here to edit manually linking items to el.wikiquote pages and later started contributing to items. Regarding Nick's closing comment, no, I do not plan to run again. Of course I have done mistakes, made bad choices and could have been better in many areas. However my intentions were, are, and will be pure. Hope I have covered all your points. I am at your disposal should you need to ask anything else. --Kostas20142 (talk) 21:38, 5 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I have been an editor since August 2016, and have created (proposed) 16 properties, mostly contributing items and relations in the field of medicine and in the topic of Japan. I often check Special:RecentChanges and reCh to find and to fix wrong edits, and gradually come to understand the rules and customs of Wikidata.
I am a native speaker of Japanese so I can promptly cope with the vandalisms related to Japanese language and with the misuses of properties in items about Japan. Currently, administrators who use Japanese are very few, although Japanese Wikipedia is one of the largest projects.
Also I specialize in medicine and have a sound knowledge of healthcare. Vandalism on the healthcare data is a hanging matter, but it is difficult for those who don't know well about that field. Therefore, I would like to receive a permission for blocking vandals, protecting items, and deleting harmful items, in order to act as the occasion demands. --Okkn (talk) 08:06, 18 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I edit regularly, had been here for the decent amount of time and very well understand the working of WikiData. Therefore I find myself in a good place to hold adminship. Besides Hindi I also want to add other language labels to the items but even after adding {{#babel}} template to my user page, I'm not able to add Japanese labels to the items. I think it would be easier for our Crats and for me if I can assign myself the Flooder-flag. I have been sysop before, see the last RfP. I resigned myself for inactivity in June 2014. I cannot see that I will be active as sysop in the normal manner in the future. We do not delete items in the way we used to do. And I do counter-vandalism when I accidently come across it, I do not actively chase vandals. I am working on tools around Wikidata and it would be useful for me to have admin rights for the following tasks:
- For the upcoming editing features of OpenRefine, I would like to create MediaWiki tags to flag the edits coming from OpenRefine (one tag per version of the software). (Note that these tags would not be OAuth tags, which anybody can apply for, because OpenRefine does not use OAuth).
- For the EditGroups tool, it would be useful to let admins delete items created by batches (after discussion at RFD). It would be useful to be an admin myself to develop and maintain this feature.

I am an active Wikidata user, and often come across cases where page protection, deletion, or user blocking would be appropriate; I would like to be able to assist directly, without having to bother others every time. Having said that, I confess that I lean "inclusionist" and would rather research and improve a bare item than delete it out of hand. I also try hard to head off blocks by working with users to help them to make a positive contribution. Although I am now more active on Wikidata, I have been an administrator on the English Wikipedia since 2005. Professionally, I use Wikidata as an information source, and am strongly motivated to see it grow as an accurate and useful resource. --Bovlb (talk) 22:03, 1 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

- I think one should have some experience with contributing to this project. This includes several aspects. Creating new items is a fairly basic one. We do have plenty of admins that I couldn't really tell from memory what they do or ever did. The result is that a few, like you, end up doing most of admin work. I don't really know what the one you mention does or did. Bovlb does write excellent queries btw.

Hello, I am Bencemac and I would like to apply for adminship. This is the first time when I do this, therefore I have only bureaucrat and AbuseFilter-editing experiences. Besides basic admin tasks such as page protection or deletion, I would like to continue fighting against vandalism in Hungarian, deal with Hungarian articles’ deleted items and help with problems which are in my native language. Recently, I spotted a huge number of orphaned items; their huwiki articles were deleted because of disputed notability, self-promoting or hoax. I am planning to continue check them and new items one by one in the future. Without deeper administrator experiences, I want to learn before I would have bigger (and silly) plans.
I read Wikidata:Administrators and I hope that I am not the only one who believes that I would be a good administrator. Thanks for reading my request!

There is no native Spanish-speaking administrator available in Wikidata in European time zones, but the Spanish Wikipedia is a well-known source of vandalism. Anyway, I offer to help by using the administrator tools in any area, so this motivation is just an excuse. Due to my fondness for inclusionism and the principles of the Linked Data, I honestly don't expect to delete many entities except in case of obvious vandalism, but I would love to contribute by all other ways with which the community believes I can be helpful. I can be contacted via IRC, where I keep a 24/7 connection; Twitter, where I <spam>pay attention to @wikidata_es</spam>; Telegram or email.
Short background: I am a sysop and bureaucrat of the Spanish Wikipedia since 2012, but I soon reduced my activity there to focus on contributing to Wikidata. During these years I have given some talks and workshops about Wikidata, encouraged several institutions to use the project and occasionally tried to help on the technical side. I am a member of Wikimedia Spain (Q14866877) since 2012 and served as a board member from 2015 to 2017. Aspects related to my edits can be more or less easily deduced from the contributions page or related tools. Thanks for your comments! --abián 10:36, 23 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

- I can't speak or write in those Romance languages; however, because of their similarities with Spanish or French languages and my relationships with native speakers, I can read in them and usually determine if an action is vandalism or not without resorting to a translator. My edits in these languages are poor: they consist in adding or fixing proper names, converting the first letter of the label to lower case if needed, removing the full stop from the description, etc. However, yes, I would provide some administrative support for them. --abián 13:33, 23 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I have patrolled Wikidata 1,5 years and during an increasing rate in Patrolling after I joined WikiProject Counter-Vandalism I have noticed the need for more Admin actions such as user blocking, page protection, and deletion. I'm experienced with RTRC and Huggle from other projects and have since my almost 16 years been an admin on 3 other projects. In order to continue fighting against vandalism on Wikidata in my native language Swedish, as well as Norwegian, Danish, German and English, I will make a better fight with the admin tools. --Dan Koehl (talk) 10:06, 12 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi all. I am an active Wikidata user from Brazil. There is up to now no administrator from Brazil or Portugal. I sometimes come across cases on which administrative actions might be needed, particularly deletion. I am a sysop on two other projects --Wikiversity and Outreach-- and I believe I can contribute directly. As I am not very active on meta admin activities on Wikidata yet, I hope I can learn from others and serve as a liaison between Portuguese-speaking contributors and project administration. It might also be worth mentioning I am one of the organizers of a series of Wikidata Labs we've held in Brazil, on which features of Wikidata are shared among Wikimedians and training is offered. These labs have been systematically advertised on the Village Pump (in Portuguese) and on social media, newsletters etc. Thanks for considering this application! --Joalpe (talk) 21:10, 14 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

edit- @Okkn: thanks for your message and for pointing these two items I had not worked on properly. Sorry! They are both associated to a GLAM initiative with the Brazilian National Archives; we have had a task force to create hundreds of biographies of politicians on Wikidata. This GLAM initiative --as well as other Brazilian Wikimedians have been working on-- has been an opportunity to really work on integrating Wikidata and other Wikimedia projects. To give an example, we have worked on several Wikidata-fed infoboxes (I am quite proud of the one on documents), Listeria-generated lists (w:pt:Lista das constituições brasileiras) structuring as much as we could uploads on Commons (from the simple depicted-person template to exclusively feeding metadata on Wikidata)... I know this context is moving away from your specific point, so I hope you don't mind for bringing this up. Thanks again. --Joalpe (talk) 00:11, 18 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
