Language distributed GameEdit

Hello,

It seems to be broken :) --Hsarrazin (talk) 16:43, 30 November 2015 (UTC)

Hi, Hsarrazin. :)
Yes, I had to stop it to introduce a quick fix. It should be back up in about 15 minutes. Great to hear you're playing it! :) Ijon (talk) 16:44, 30 November 2015 (UTC)
well, if you can "mix" the items, so that they don't appear in QID order it would be nicer... because 50 items in a row with the same language is not really fun. but it's a nice game, to help and complete the languages... even if it does not allow to add 2-3 languages ;) --Hsarrazin (talk) 19:11, 30 November 2015 (UTC)
Interesting game. The suggestion for Belgium is a bit risky .. --- Jura 11:25, 1 December 2015 (UTC)

I'm not sure there is enough information/chance of false positives to make having a human review these inferences worthwhile. I think it might be more productive to generate a list of country->language mappings, and have a human (or multiple humans) review *that* for risky or less risky mappings, then do a bot run to add the inferences. The incorrect ones could then be weeded out via more subtle queries. JesseW (talk) 07:24, 13 March 2016 (UTC)

I disagree, JesseW: While the wrong guesses seem to be about 1 to 2 percent, I don't see a trivial way of detecting them without human intelligence. I think the Wikidata Game is a perfect vehicle to relatively painlessly let humans just confirm most guesses, but reject the occasional wrong ones. Ijon (talk) 13:39, 10 April 2016 (UTC)
Do you have a list of wrong guesses? I'm curious if I (as a human) can spot any patterns in it. JesseW (talk) 07:24, 12 April 2016 (UTC)

Edit

DGtal (talk) 20:47, 24 August 2016 (UTC)

+1. The distinction between P106 and P39 is important, and I think Knesset member (Q4047513) fits much better as the latter. (Also note that all of the relevant items already have position held (P39) Knesset member (Q4047513), IIRC.) --Yair rand (talk) 21:45, 24 August 2016 (UTC)
Also, you seem to have added 13 individuals such as Daniel Auster (Q676953) who were not actually members of Knesset, but were members of the Assembly of Representatives (Q2866454), which is technically a separate position. --Yair rand (talk) 22:03, 24 August 2016 (UTC)
Good point, both! Thank you, I will fix this. Ijon (talk) 22:19, 24 August 2016 (UTC)
Asher Ohana (Q2905742) was also never a Knesset member... --Yair rand (talk) 22:47, 24 August 2016 (UTC)

Edit

Doror (talk) 07:17, 1 October 2016 (UTC)

Ijon (talk) 12:10, 1 October 2016 (UTC)
Doror (talk) 12:12, 1 October 2016 (UTC)
Ijon (talk) 14:06, 1 October 2016 (UTC)

Distributed Game - double entriesEdit

Hi, I think that the Distributed Game allowed users to add the same statement twice, take a look at this item: Q1929830. Spoken language has been added twice. Users don't know if the statement already exists. --162.253.130.149 13:24, 21 December 2016 (UTC)

Thank you. That is indeed a problem. The game currently does not check whether the statement has been added between the time its guess was made (which can be weeks or months ago) and the time the game tiles are requested, and I should fix that. However, it seems that a more fundamental fix would be for the Distributed Game platform itself to avoid adding an identical statement from being added, just before the moment of inserting it (which can be hours/days after the game tile was requested), so I'm pinging Magnus as well. West Bank: settlementsEdit

Hi. Regarding these your edits from late 2016, removing country (P17) isn't the best choice, even if it's values might be considered controversial by one or another part of people. We need a country (P17) claim for each item about localities, and usually in case of disputed territories there are added and kept both values. What do you think about this? --XXN, 19:35, 9 July 2017 (UTC)

Hi, XXN. They are outside the international borders of the State of Israel, even according to the government of Israel. I think the most accurate value for country (P17), if any, would be State of Palestine (Q219060). It may feel incongruous to those Jewish settlers who certainly want to believe they are in Israel, and the government of Israel is (criminally, according to international law) giving them benefits of Israeli citizens and applying Israeli law to them, but it is still a matter of fact that those places are outside the borders of the State of Israel. Ijon (talk) 07:01, 11 July 2017 (UTC)
I think the right thing to do is adding both State of Palestine (Q219060) Israel (Q801) because it's disputed.--Mikey641 (talk) 22:01, 17 July 2017 (UTC)
Mikey641: What, exactly, is disputed, though? Can you provide any reliable source for Israel's borders extending to include those settlements? Ijon (talk) 00:01, 18 July 2017 (UTC)
The Israeli government itself considers the territory to be disputed, but I don't think that's the primary issue here. I think there might be different views about what the country (P17) property is for. The government over the areas in question is clearly Israel, and the residents are Israelis. IIUC, the government doesn't claim that the area is in Israel, but it does recognize the national affiliation of the settlements to be Israel. Foreign powers don't consider the settlements themselves to be non-Israeli, although they do consider the territory they're located on to be so. As such, I'd recommend listing them as being exclusively Israeli.
Note that P17 is also used for non-territorial entities, such as government entities, armies, legal entities, and groups of people. --Yair rand (talk) 02:32, 18 July 2017 (UTC)
